00:00An anti-graft agency says the Football Association of Malaysia showed a disturbing lack of accountability
00:07in handling the scandal involving falsified documents.
00:11FIFA found that contrary to FAM's claims, the grandparents of seven naturalized players
00:16were born in Spain, Argentina, Brazil and the Netherlands, not Malaysia.
00:21The Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism criticized FAM for blaming a technical error
00:26on administrative staff, suspending General Secretary Noor Azman Rahman and forming an
00:31unnamed independent committee nearly a month later.
00:35It said FAM had been disturbingly opaque, refusing to confirm whether proper documentation existed
00:40while hiding behind the Official Secrets Act in 1972 and the Passport Act in 1966.
00:47CIFOR demanded full accountability and questioned the identity of the agent involved, the nature
00:51of the falsified documents, and whether Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail approved
00:56the disputed citizenships.
00:58The NGO also raised doubts about why only Noor Azman was punished and about the independence
01:03and transparency of FAM's investigation committee.
01:06Last month, FIFA imposed a 1.9 million ringgit fine on FAM as well as an 11,000 ringgit fine
01:13and 12-month suspension for each player.
