India batter Shreyas Iyer admitted that the ODI series loss was painful but heaped praise on Australia’s middle-order batters, who anchored their side to a narrow two-wicket victory in the second One-Day International at Adelaide Oval on Thursday. Iyer also noted that Australia’s ability to make the most of bowler-friendly conditions helped them take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

00:00There is a lot of chatter around your technique that you technique the stance you have brought up.
00:06So what kind of changes did you make there and what was the thought process behind it, behind your stance?
00:12And secondly, what was the conversation going around with Rohit Sharman?
00:18Well this technique which I have got lately, it's not that I have changed over the time,
00:24but since last year I wanted to have an upright stance where the bounce is a little bit more than expected.
00:32And based on that I worked with my coach and we developed this new technique and it was kind of suiting me pretty well.
00:40And the way I grew up playing, it was very much that I predominantly had an upright stance.
00:48And I just was like, let's go back to my old technique and see how it paces up.
00:54So yeah, I backed myself and then from there on I started in the domestic and then till now I've been continuing with the same stance.
01:01And talking about the partnership, I think it was very crucial as you rightly mentioned.
01:06And we were just saying that let's build the momentum towards us because he was bowling amazingly, Hazelwood,
01:15and the ball was seeming in and out. It wasn't an easy wicket to bat on, especially at the start.
01:21So we just wanted to have an attacking approach at the start, but at the same time it wasn't easy to score runs.
01:29So we just decided to rotate the strike as much as possible and see to it that we come to a total where we feel that we can charge on the bowlers.
01:39Like at 17 for 2 it was a difficult phase, the wicket was doing a bit. If you could talk about how the wicket changed and the lights maybe as Cooper was there before,
01:50he said the wicket changed and the lights here. So if you could talk about how the conditions changed in the second place.
01:57I absolutely have no idea because I was feeling the far end of the square. So when you mentioned that the wicket changed, what was happening exactly?
02:05I mean it was easier to bat on in the second place.
02:11But credit where it's due, I think they played brilliantly. The way they batted, they rotated, their strike.
02:17I think it was superb performance and Cooper especially being a youngster coming in showing so much maturity to finish off the game.
02:25That shows a lot of character and he's someone I've seen even in the India A versus Australia A matches.
02:30He was charging on the bowlers and very selective in terms of which bowler to target. So credit where it's due.
02:38Just back on the technique thing, do you feel that more upright stance helps you somewhere in Australia here where the bounce is a little bit steeper?
02:46Yes, absolutely. Even in Mumbai when we play on red wickets where the bounce is a little bit extra than expected.
02:52I think it helps with the upright stance. And yeah, you've got to keep chopping and changing every now and then because you don't play on the same wickets.
03:01Whatever the wicket demands, you've got to change your stance accordingly. And I think I've changed so many stance, I'm able to adapt anywhere at the moment.
03:08I personally feel there's no challenge. It's just about adapting to the conditions and we keep training here and there.
03:28And also, it's important that we maintain our intensity outside the field. We've got to be match prepared.
03:46And when we step onto the field, at the back of the mind, you need to have that, you know, scores, especially the confidence, that sort of confidence you get from domestic cricket.
03:59And lately, coming into this tournament, I played India A series matches as well. So that gave me immense boost coming here.
04:06And obviously, you've just got to back yourself in such crucial games where you know that you'll be challenged by the best.
04:14And when the best are there, you've got to give your best. So I always love challenges and I always like to take the bulls by the horn.
04:22Can I just ask about, obviously, you guys play so much cricket, Australia play so much cricket, but to lose a series, does it still hurt? How much does it hurt?
04:33What's the mood in the dressing rooms at the moment to be 2-0 down? I know it's a short series, but yeah.
04:39It definitely hurts. I personally feel that the first game which we played, it wasn't that convincing, to be honest,
04:48because the rain played an important role and the benefit went to the Australia side.
04:53But that's one reason which I'm giving over here. But coming into this game, it was definitely a do or die for us.
05:01And we wanted to place our best foot forward. But losing two crucial wickets at the start and then to build up that innings,
05:09it takes a lot of efforts. And I personally feel the way Australian bowlers, they bowled on such wickets.
05:15They had a fair bit of advantage at the start and they utilized it pretty well.
05:20Final question.
05:21Mr. Shrest, if you were starting this year, it is a good season.
05:25It took me to remember, there were many things on which, you know,
05:32recently, you kicked out of the INDIA AEG series to just leave the red ball,
05:37as well as the Dodger House, and if that's a good season,
05:40the following years, you asked, you know, what impact has been done with your batting,
05:49You know, the rest of the things are not in that track when you have to leave the back problem of the body.
05:58Sometimes you have to think about the number 4 or number 5, where are you from?
06:04If you don't have a clear or not, there is no confirmation.
06:08Where is the confirmation?
06:10That you don't have any confirmation in the playing level.
06:12Where? Which format do you have?
06:14Kodiya.
06:15Like you sent a lot of Kodiya.
06:17Yes, yes, yes.
06:19There are some things like on-field, some things like off-field.
06:24How does this look like in the right frame of mind?
06:26Because there is also a high gap.
06:28Then there is also a gap.
06:30Sorry about this question.
06:32No, but if you look at this, I had come from the domestic season.
06:37There was a tournament.
06:39My performance was very exceptional.
06:41It was about 300.
06:43So, as I said that when you play domestic, you get confidence when you come to the international circuit.
06:51Because there are runs behind you.
06:53And obviously, the expectation is that you will play 100%.
06:57But that was a little helter-skelter.
07:00It is not in my hands.
07:04Whatever it is, I will go to the ground.
07:06The performance is in my hands.
07:07And definitely, by God's grace, I received that opportunity.
07:11And I maximized that opportunity.
07:13And after that, I was playing continuously in the Champions Trophy, then IPL.
07:19And then, when I came to the Red Ball.
07:22So, I got to know that when I fielding more on the ground.
07:29So, the intensity of my intensity is down.
07:34And at the international level, the intensity of maintaining the intensity is not going to match.
07:39I got to know that.
07:40So, I made a decision with that.
07:42And I conveyed my message.
07:44But, you know that the next day you will recover.
07:51So, based on that, I took that decision.
