00:00These are the recently unearthed remains of a new dinosaur species paleontologist recently unearthed in Montana.
00:09Experts are now calling it Lociceratops rangiformis.
00:13And while it might have a lot in common with its Triceratops cousins,
00:16this reconstruction of the Cretaceous period dinosaur reveals that its horns are wild.
00:21It's one of the biggest in its family of dinosaurs to ever lumber around prehistoric Earth.
00:25And if its name rings a bell, Lociceratops, that's because he was named after the Marvel character Loki.
00:30Known for wearing a helmet adorned with gigantic horns,
00:33Lociceratops was massive, measuring around 22 feet in length, with a head stretching 6.5 feet across.
00:39It also weighed upwards of 11,000 pounds.
00:42The creature lived some 78 million years ago,
00:45and unbelievably paleontologists were able to find most of the animal's skull bones,
00:49allowing him to recreate it in all its horned glory,
00:51with the researchers saying, quote,
00:53These skull ornaments are one of the keys to unlocking horned dinosaur diversity,
00:57and demonstrate that evolutionary selection for showy displays
01:00contributed to the dizzying richness of Cretaceous ecosystems.
