00:00The Netflix hit K-pop Demon Hunters is breaking viewer records and driving new
00:08demand for all things Korean. Samsung C&T Resort's Everland, South Korea's largest
00:14theme park, opened a K-pop Demon Hunters exhibit this fall. Even the youngest fan
00:19can tell you why the film's attracting such interest.
00:22I think people are eating Korean food or like Korean culture because in the movie they eat
00:29Korean food or no Korean culture and they want to see in the real place if they're real or fake.
00:38The Everland Netflix deal follows the film's record-breaking summer box office receipts which
00:43made it the most popular Netflix film of all time. After working with Netflix on a couple of projects
00:50last year we reached out mid-July and have coordinated with Netflix Korea and their US
00:55headquarters. We plan to create more K-culture zones or experiential spaces in the future.
01:04Tourism to South Korea has risen more than 20 percent this year with forecasts pointing to
01:09more than 20 million visits, many inspired by the K-pop Demon Hunter phenomenon.
01:14I've seen K-pop Demon Hunters a few times,
01:17loved it. It's kind of been fun throughout our trip being able to spot
01:22things throughout the movie and it helped us kind of connect to the city and the culture a bit more.
01:27Naxan Park is one of several real-world historic sites featured in K-pop Demon Hunters.
01:33Alongside the fashion food and music also portrayed in the film, it's part of a wider cultural package
01:40that many fans are experiencing on their own. I think a lot of K-pop fans actually are first K-pop
01:45fans but then you never stop here. Then you're into K-food, skincare, K-drama. It always builds up and a lot of
01:55people like me then are like, okay I want to learn the language or maybe even study in Korea or maybe
02:01even work in Korea. Experts see the success of streaming productions like K-pop Demon Hunters broadening
02:08the country's cultural appeal. With the traditional platform that is television network and cable
02:16television network, the genres that could be shown on television were very limited, you know, romance
02:24dramas, family dramas, at best, you know, gang dramas, right? But with Netflix, the boundaries have been
02:32totally, uh, you know, opened wide. And on the business side, commercial tie-ins are expansive.
02:40Some merchandising products are big sellers and noodles, K-pop Demon Hunters Ramyun are often sold out.
