Timor-Leste, which will soon finalize its membership to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), expressed its support for the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea and its commitment to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in ensuring peace and stability in the highly disputed region. 00:00Thanks, regarding the formulation of the Code of Conduct in the South Side of the Sea.
00:05He would bless the support of ASEAN's efforts to promote peace, stability and freedom of navigation in the region.
00:12We reiterate commitments to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Lord of the Sea
00:17as the legal foundation for resolve in maritime disputes.
00:21He would bless the best implementation of the Declaration of Conduct of Parties
00:25and encourage all involved states to expedite agreement and comprehensive and effective COC.
00:34The government calls for self-restraint, de-exclamation and peaceful dialogue
00:39resulting in action that would heighten tensions on all militarizations in the Indo-Pacific.
00:47In ASEAN and also in the Indo-Pacific, we have to follow all the principles of the UN.
00:54The ASEAN Charter and the Indo-Pacific outlook is really very important.
01:01We have to cooperate.
01:02And we follow with the ASEAN state member's view in the dialogue consensus
01:08to reach a more favorable situation, solution for whatever the complexities we face.
01:16With regards to the other issue of China and the U.S. is a real complex matter,
01:24we all, as in this time, we need to strengthen our position
01:27and we are now regional blog to face this reality with our own preparedness
01:33and to meet the challenges that we can to also show our identity as a regional organization.
