00:09A big shout-out to Abby for requesting today's story.
00:17Once upon a time, there lived an old queen whose husband had been dead for many years.
00:25She had a beautiful daughter, a princess.
00:31When the princess grew up, she was promised in marriage to a prince who lived far away.
00:38When the time came for her to be married and leave for his distant kingdom,
00:43the old queen packed up many expensive gifts for her daughter.
00:49Vessels and utensils of gold and silver, jewelry, cups, and other treasures fit for a royal dowry.
00:59For she loved her daughter deeply.
01:02She also assigned a chambermaid to travel with the princess and deliver her safely into the prince's hands.
01:11Each of them received a horse for the journey.
01:14The princess's horse was named Falada, and he could speak.
01:20When the moment of departure came, the old queen went into her chamber,
01:25pricked her finger with a knife until it bled,
01:29then handed the cloth to her daughter, saying,
01:33Take good care of these, for they will be of service to you on your way.
01:38With tears, they said goodbye to each other.
01:45The princess tucked the cloth into her bosom,
01:48mounted her horse, and began her journey to her bridegroom.
01:52After riding for a while, she became terribly thirsty.
02:17She asked her chambermaid to fetch her some water from a nearby brook.
02:23Dismount, and take my cup which you have brought with you for me,
02:27and get me some water from the brook, for I would like a drink.
02:31If you are thirsty, get off your horse yourself, and lie down near the water and drink.
02:37I won't be your servant.
02:39The princess was humble and said nothing.
02:42She dismounted, bent over the brook, and drank.
03:01Oh, Lord!
03:03If this your mother knew, her heart would break in two.
