00:00A Very Newy Chrissy is a Christmas tale set here in Newcastle.
00:05It's a story about family, it's a story about friendship,
00:09it's a story about this city that we all love.
00:11But it's also about...
00:12It's about love.
00:13There's quite a bit of love in there, a bit of romance, a bit of kissing.
00:16But it's also about some of the complications that come around Christmas as well.
00:19People have to make difficult decisions around Christmas.
00:21Things that have been bubbling all year start to come to the fore,
00:24and our characters have to deal with some of those as they negotiate Christmas together.
00:28We've got a lot of Newcastle references and a lot of Newcastle jokes,
00:32so, you know, Novocastrians will understand it really well,
00:35but there's also something in there for everybody, even if you don't celebrate Christmas.
00:38I actually set out to write a version of Love Actually.
00:42It's not quite that anymore, but that was kind of the inspiration,
00:46this idea of, you know, Love Actually should be said everywhere.
00:49Like, we should all get our own Love Actually.
00:50So this kind of idea of interconnected stories set right here in Newcastle.
00:54It's actually a really big thrill to be part of the Upstage program.
00:58Particularly for a new creative team that we are.
01:02We would have to wait years for something like this to come along,
01:05I would imagine, if this sort of program wasn't available.
01:08It's really amazing for the audience as well,
01:10to be able to come and see and support local artists and local creatives
01:15and hear stories from their own community.
01:18So, honestly, we are just thrilled, so excited to be part of this program.
