00:00Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla held a press conference before national and international media
00:07where he referred to the aggressive foreign policy of the United States government against the island.
00:12Our correspondent Belén de los Santos has more details.
00:16This Wednesday morning the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla
00:21called on the national and international media with one objective.
00:26We are just one week away from another voting at the UN General Assembly
00:31on the resolution that calls for the lifting of the economic blockade on Cuba.
00:37A voting that happens year after year with an overwhelming majority in support of Cuba.
00:43In this context, Cuba is denouncing a U.S. campaign that is trying to pressure other states to change their vote.
00:50It has a fraudulent approach that on one side they try to prove, and it's one of the subtitles,
01:02the Cuban regime does not deserve your support.
01:06It's directed to governments that always have voted for decades, some with over 30 years,
01:16in favor of the elimination of the blockade, of the reestablishment of international law,
01:26the end of a crime, of a crime of genocide, in the framework of the corresponding convention,
01:38and that as an overwhelming majority of the member states of the United Nations,
01:44that reflects also the thinking and position, overwhelmingly in a majority,
01:52of U.S. citizens that are the ones paying the emissors, the U.S. diplomats,
01:58that are involved in this management that also reflect the majority opinion of Cubans
02:08that live in the United States, all of which at the same time are victims
02:13of this aggression policy and hostilities and blockade.
02:20In this way, Cuba is presenting the evidence and the information of this campaign,
02:25in which the United States, through two letters directed at governments from Europe and Latin America,
02:31is trying to change their vote, veiling threats of possible consequences
02:36if they do not follow the U.S. interests.
02:39This is just a pressure campaign, they say.
02:42It does not feel the need to argue in seriousness with the government.
02:49They believe that the brutal pressure and actual threats are more than enough.
02:54I read the document and I realize that they don't really want to convince anyone,
03:00they only want to intimidate and pressure.
03:03It is not the blockade, the cause of issues, of problems of the Cuban economy.
03:09I have proven with data and I am willing to do so again.
03:16We are willing to debate on this issue.
03:20Experts are also willing to do this, Cuban experts,
03:23in our economy to show that the blockade is the main cause of the issues of our economy
03:32and the main obstacle for our development.
03:37Among the evidence presented, not only were the two letters sent by the United States,
03:43but also a media campaign of disinformation trying to link Cuba with different schemes around the world
03:51that have no evidence.
03:53For example, media campaigns that have tried to link Cuba to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine,
03:59or also to drug trafficking in the region.
04:02Just schemes that are completely baseless, but are dangerous, the Cuban minister has said,
04:08because we've seen the United States at this moment use these narratives,
04:12these false narratives, in order to justify, for example, military aggressions in the Caribbean.
04:17That is what is happening at this moment, but Cuba is confident that another vote is coming
04:23and another vote will be of an overwhelming majority in order to lift the blockade.
04:28Cuba is saying that the United States is just trying to shift the conversation against
04:33and away from the actual topic.
04:36And the actual topic is the constant aggression that the U.S. continues to maintain year after year
04:43with the blockade against the Cuban people.
