Meghan, Duchess of Sussex on investing in female founders

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex told Fortune MPW that there "doesn’t need to be anything taboo about talking about our financial independence.”

00:00Well, financial independence is what gives you the freedom of choice.

00:04And I think in this day and age, we all need to be able to have our autonomy.

00:09That is a huge element of that.

00:12Financial literacy for that reason is something that I spend a lot of time on

00:16specifically for young girls and their empowerment.

00:19And I think as women, especially in a room like this,

00:22we can all probably agree that as women, when we're supporting each other

00:26for all of these elements that might not necessarily be the ones

00:30that people want to hear us talk about, there's nothing taboo.

00:33It doesn't need to be anything taboo about talking about our financial independence

00:36or our independence overall.

00:38And as women, when we support each other, we are not simply supporting each other's lives.

00:43We're supporting each other's legacies.

00:46And that's the piece that's so powerful.

00:48When I'm supporting or investing in another female founder,

00:50I am investing in what she is going to do for the culture, for her business,

00:55the legacy she's going to leave, how that brand, if it's a CPG brand,

00:59is going to show up in people's homes.

01:01So it is all fundamentally important.

01:04And I don't think it's a conversation we should shy away from.

01:06I think it's one that we should really embrace together.
