00:00Welcome to this demo on OCI Cloud Advisor. Cloud Advisor is a service that analyzes
00:11cloud OCI cloud resources and provides recommendations to maximize cost savings
00:17and optimize your tenancy's performance, security, and availability. Let's look at Cloud Advisor in
00:24action. I'm logged on to my OCI console and to bring up Cloud Advisor, click on the navigation menu
00:31and click on governance and administration and Cloud Advisor is listed right here. So,
00:37I'll click on Cloud Advisor and it will bring up a dashboard which will show which will have four
00:44major categories cost management, high availability, performance, and security and we'll look at each
00:51of them in a lot more details. So, the first first dashboard here is around cost management
00:58and basically you can read the text here. Cost management provides you recommendations which
01:03help you reduce costs by finding and adjusting resources that are underutilized. So, we'll look
01:09into this in a little bit more detail. High availability recommendations help you improve
01:15system resilience and again we'll look into what this entails and then the dashboards down here are
01:22for performance and security and performance basically helps you improve you can you can read
01:28here performance recommendations help you improve performance by finding and adjusting resources that
01:34are over utilized. So, we'll again look into what that means and here you can see security and the
01:40security dashboard you see as blank here because Cloud Advisor actually redirects customers to Cloud
01:49Guard and using Cloud Guard we can look at the security posture management and you can read here
01:54you know the details on Cloud Guard. So, we'll look into each of these in a little bit more detail.
02:00So, first let me click on cost management and you can see this tile here which says details and when I
02:06click on that I can see several recommendations right it says delete unattached block volumes
02:12because it's they are incurring cost and you can see the cost listed here right it says delete
02:18unattached boot volumes and there's a cost which is there right it says delete ideal compute instances
02:26ideal compute instances so there is kind of you know the cost listed here and and so on and so forth
02:31and it's quite straightforward to work on on each of these recommendations so for example if I click
02:38on delete idle compute instance it just it shows me that you know there is a compute instance running in
02:45UK south region which is incurring this cost so I can click on implement selected and I can click
02:51implement here and what this will do is it will delete this idle compute instance because it's been running
02:57and incurring cost and maybe it's a leftover uh compute instance which nobody is tracking right now
03:03similarly I can click on delete unattached uh boot volumes and sometimes you know when you delete your compute
03:10instances you can keep the boot volumes running so I can see here in sandbox uh there's a boot volume running
03:15again in UK south I click on implement selected uh and what this will do is it will delete
03:21unattached boot volume this this particular one here so I'll click delete and now this will be uh
03:27delicate so it's that simple kind of to get the recommendations and work on these uh recommendations
03:35so if I go back to the main dashboard uh it shows me uh you know these major uh recommendations which are
03:44incurring cost the two of those I just kind of you know you can see those six uh implemented and uh
03:49uh few of those are remaining so you also get good visibility into uh how how some of these are still open
03:58right so down below you can see another dashboard which is on performance and if I click on details
04:03here you can see what kind of uh performance parameters or recommendations cloud advisor is uh is
04:11recommending so you can see here it's saying that I need to enable auto tuning for block volumes uh and auto
04:18tuning is a feature which we covered in uh our block volume lesson where using auto tuning you can save
04:24some cost so I can see here that I have several block volumes where auto tuning is not implemented so I can
04:33just click like similar to the previous example and click implement here and now what it would do is in
04:38the back end it would go and implement auto tuning for these block volumes and the idea is again
04:44uh it will it will save cost and it will help in the right sizing the performance of those block
04:51volumes so I could do that similar to similarly if I click on the third tile here on high availability
04:56click on details you can see that it will give me uh recommendations around things like improve
05:02fault tolerance and if I click on this basically it is saying that in these in these compartments we are
05:08running too many instances uh in one fault domain right you can see here too many instances are clustered in
05:13one fault domain uh and it it can be a it'd be an issue and uh every availability domain has three
05:19fault domains so I can leverage the other two fault domains and I can spread my instances across fault
05:25uh domain so I could actually do that and finally you can see there is uh there are recommendations
05:31around security and you see nothing listed here because this uh we redirect customers to another service in
05:38OCI called cloud guard which again we covered in in lot more details in this course and if you see
05:44this basically cloud guard is a service which helps you maintain a very high security posture and basically
05:50cloud guard what it does is it looks at your whole uh tenancy or or or individual compartments and it
05:58it can tell you if there are any kind of misconfigurations or any kind of activity which are suspicious
06:04so you can see here if I click on sandbox I can see there are lots of activities which are critical
06:10high medium uh uh ranking and if I if I uh click on on on on the details I can see that there are things
06:20like you know public IP address probably should not be there NSG allows disallowed IP port etc so
06:28the idea being again uh with uh cloud advisor that you get these recommendations around uh saving costs
06:38saving money improving performance strengthening system resilience and improving security so I hope
06:45you found this lesson useful thanks for your time
