Former Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra resigns as Pheu Thai leader to pave the way for a party revamp, months after her dismissal over an ethics breach.

00:00Former Thai Prime Minister Patengton Shinawad has stepped down the ladder of the Perthai party,
00:06saying the move is meant to allow a full revamp of the party.
00:10In a statement, the 39-year-old said change must begin immediately
00:14and that her resignation would let the party rebuild freely and completely.
00:20She will, however, remain a party member.
00:21Perthai was removed as Prime Minister in August after Thailand's Constitutional Court ruled she had breached attics
00:31during a phone call with Cambodian leader Hun Sen.
00:35The call linked to a border dispute was seen as showing favour to Phnom Penh.
00:40Her dismissal and the party's fall from power triggered a wave of resignations among senior members,
00:46while Perthai's popularity sharply declined.
00:49Observers say her exit aims to stop rivals from using her as the political target
00:55ahead of the next general election scheduled for March 2026.
