00:00Thailand's constitutional court on Friday dismissed Prime Minister Pei Tung Tarn Shinawatra
00:11from office for an ethics violation after only one year in power. The court ruled 6-3 in the
00:18verdict, saying that Pei Tung Tarn violated ethics in a leaked telephone call in June,
00:23where she appeared to kowtow to Cambodia's former leader, Hun Sen, when both countries
00:27were experiencing territorial border conflict. The court said Pei Tung Tarn's tenure ended
00:33effective from the court's order on July 1. The decision came after a petition submitted
00:39by 36 members of the Senate asking the court to determine the fate of Pei Tung Tarn. This
00:45is yet another crushing blow to the Shinawatra political dynasty that could usher in a new
00:50period of political turmoil. The 39-year-old Pei Tung Tarn becomes the sixth prime minister
00:57from or backed by the billionaire Shinawatra family to be removed from office. She was
01:03the country's youngest prime minister when she assumed office in August last year. The
01:08decision paves the way for the election by parliament of a new prime minister, a process
01:13that could be drawn out, with Pei Tung Tarn's ruling Few Thai Party losing bargaining power
01:18and facing a challenge to shore up a fragile alliance with a razor-thin majority.
