00:00Politicians often emphasize their physical fitness in media messages.
00:04In Poland, Karol Nowrowski sprinted through the presidential campaign,
00:09a fact often pointed out by his opponents.
00:11Today, the Polish president's social media is filled with videos of his gym workouts.
00:17Nowrowski comes as no surprise, as many state leaders often present themselves in sports context.
00:23But is this coincidence or a part of a larger political strategy?
00:30We are a little bit of a person who is a little bit of a person who is a little bit of a person.
00:34So, if we see someone who is very well-built, with a body,
00:38we think that someone will be able to prove it to them.
00:41Because over thousands of years of evolution, we have been so much.
00:44And politicians use this as well as creating images,
00:50which show them as very strong people with big bars, big marynarks,
00:56or all these monuments on the horse, which showed that it's a kind of a warrior that dominates,
01:02and that's why it gives peace around themselves.
01:04In an age where wars are fought remotely with drones and hybrid tactics,
01:10does a leader's physical strength still matter to their people?
01:14For me it's not a physical value, but there are definitely groups,
01:19in which this information and this cult of the body are more important.
01:25I don't talk about intellectuality, but physicality shows a more reasonable.
01:34But if it's the most important role of the president, it's like this for discussion.
01:41I think it's fine, that it's a good influence on their faces and it's a good influence on them.
01:49A reel of President Karo Nawrowski's gym workouts on X
01:53gathered over 2.5 million views. Even if some may call it political theatrics,
02:00a World Health Organization WHO report credits social media with having a significant impact on
02:07promoting healthy lifestyles. The WHO's research shows that more than 80% of adolescents and 27% of adults
02:16worldwide are not achieving the recommended level of physical activity.
