00:00good afternoon my name is phil hewitt group arts editor at sussex newspapers really lovely to speak
00:06to kevin clifton especially as kevin you are on the road with 222 a ghost story which is just
00:13fabulous whether you're watching for the first time or enjoying it for the second time knowing
00:17what you know in our area you're doing guildford crawley and sandhampton and this is new territory
00:23for you isn't it obviously after fantastic glittering past and strictly etc and dance
00:29yeah a straight play why that's right um yeah i sort of i grew up as a dancer like so for a long
00:36time it was all about dancing and um i did a musical in like 2010 and then i went then strictly sort of
00:43happened for me um so i was like seven years on strictly and then i went back into musicals again
00:48so i've done about eight musicals now for quite a while i've i've been saying that i'd love to just
00:53do a straight play um yeah without the pressure of of singing and dancing and and just to really
00:59concentrate on the acting side of things and um when 222 came along i i just thought this this is
01:07the perfect one for me like one i love the play i've seen it a few times with different casts and i
01:12kind of became a bit obsessed with it um and two i get to do it with with stacy so um i was like this is
01:19this is the one yeah and it's the first time a real couple has played the lead couple in this show
01:26isn't it yeah yeah that's right um and it's it's funny um danny robbins uh who wrote it and also the
01:35director was sort of talking to me that they were saying what they hoped it was going to bring was
01:38sometimes the character of sam who i play can be quite sort of condescending and he's a bit of a
01:45know it all at times and and um they said they were saying it's a difficult balance and if it goes
01:50too far in that direction we sort of we almost don't want them to be together and we're hoping
01:55that like you two as a real couple will bring a sense of like there's a natural chemistry between
02:00you that we want to see that like it feels like they should be together even though he's quite
02:04condescending towards her in the play oh that sounds great as you're saying no self-consciousness with
02:10working with your partners yeah exactly like it's yeah we we slipped into it pretty easily
02:15um much more easily than i expected us to actually thought we were going to be all giggly
02:19but it was fine it was all good it was all good yeah oh there's humor in the play but yes it's
02:25pretty serious isn't it in the end yeah it starts out sort of quite jovial and we're all having fun
02:31you know this evening of a dinner party and then it sort of descends the night descends
02:36you twist us you twist us around your little finger don't you yeah and it descends into
02:41arguments and chaos and yeah it all gets a bit um it all gets a bit intense fantastic well i can't
02:47wait to see it again in our area then it's playing guildford crawley and southampton kevin
02:52really lovely to speak to you thank you for your time thanks very much
