Feeling stressed? Doctor shares four expert tips to calm your mind ITV
Transcript
00:00So four things we can do is make sure we get good sleep.
00:03You know, we talk about cortisol sleep where we're tired but we can't get to sleep
00:06or we wake up throughout the night.
00:08So sleeping is important.
00:09Yes, and can I just say on that one, what was interesting was, as a woman anyway,
00:12that my doctor said, take progesterone in the evenings, you know,
00:15because that helps you sleep better and therefore your cortisol is more managed
00:19and therefore all the sort of rage that comes along with perimenopause,
00:22it sort of does calm it down.
00:23So sleep in that way is really important.
00:25Avoid that and avoiding caffeine, of course, because too late in the day
00:30that will stimulate more stress because it's a stimulant.
00:34Then don't procrastinate.
00:35Don't put off the priority things that you know you have to do till tomorrow.
00:38Deal with them today and then they're out of the way.
00:41If you've got things on your mind, write them down, put them on your bedside
00:43and forget about them till tomorrow.
00:45And I think finally exercise, physical exercise in nature is really good
00:50at making those calming hormones.
00:52And it doesn't mean you have to go for a run, just go for a walk.
00:54No, no, just for a walk in the country.
00:55Just go for a speedy walk.
00:56Or just outside in the park.
00:58Yeah.
00:58Anywhere.
00:59But that fresh air, a bit of physical exercise, do the world of good.
