00:00So far from your time here, do you feel Spain has changed you somehow?
00:04Hmm, I might need a second.
00:06My life has changed a lot, a lot.
00:09And I mean, Belgium itself, like I love Belgium, but I don't know if I miss it that much.
00:14Um, in a way, yes, I feel like I'm more happy because...
00:19Hello everyone, welcome back to Sensational Spain.
00:22For today's video, we're asking foreigners living in Spain how has the country changed them as a person.
00:28So, let's go see what they have to say, come on.
00:32First of all, could you tell us your names and where you're from?
00:34Yeah, my name is Angie and I'm from Mongolia.
00:37I'm May, I'm from the United States.
00:39My name is Liam, I'm from Belgium.
00:41Soy Antonio, llego desde Italia.
00:47I saw muy clarito.
00:48My name is Arety, I'm from the US.
00:51My name is Wiley, I'm from the north of Chicago.
00:53My name is Eduardo and I'm from Arizona.
00:55My name is Valentin and I'm from France.
00:58I live here for seven years.
01:00And what did you bring to Spain?
01:01I studied a master's here and I stayed here because I made a lot of friends and I liked it.
01:06I first came to Spain to study here two years ago and then now I'm teaching English here.
01:11So, I first came for a year for an Erasmus two years ago and I spent a year here and then I went back to England for university.
01:20And then after my last year I decided to come back because it was just a great city to live in.
01:25Um, we're here to study abroad and we're here only for a semester.
01:30Same with me, I'm studying abroad.
01:31No, I came to Spain only because I wanted to go away from Italy.
01:42The other option was Germany but I would have not survived if I went to Germany because I didn't know the language.
01:49I came here without knowing the language and yeah.
01:51How so far from your time here do you feel Spain has changed you somehow?
01:56Um, in a way, yes, I feel like I'm more happy because my routine has changed and because you're in a new environment
02:03like I feel like I plan things to do so I feel like I'm more calm and
02:10Yeah, more peaceful.
02:12Yeah, I think I definitely dress differently like I just like I've adapted to like you guys dress very like put together
02:17So I feel like I've had to change like the stuff that I wear a little bit
02:20But I also feel like just like yeah, like the same thing like I you have to plan things to do
02:24There's so much fun things to do here. So I definitely feel happier and like something more calm than I am in the United States. Yeah. Yeah
02:30Hmm. I might need a second.
02:32Of course, of course, um, it's definitely changed my lifestyle a lot
02:36I think I went to school in Washington DC
02:38So everything is very competitive and like focused on using your free time to get ahead
02:44With like jobs and stuff and then coming here
02:47I find that you know your free time is more of yours to like enjoy spend time with family spend time with friends
02:53And there's also a lot more culture and history in the city
02:56So it just feels like more alive than in DC when after five o'clock the city kind of shuts down in some parts
03:04Not all but yeah
03:31Definitely the walking
03:33The walking, the taking the metro, that's very different from the United States
03:37We're used to driving everywhere
03:39The public transportation is awesome here
03:41I think it's really different compared to how US colleges work
03:46Where it's more of a campus and you live there for a year or two
03:50But here like we live probably 25 minutes away
03:53But we just take the metro every day which doesn't really exist in the US
03:57Yeah, I think first of all I came
04:00Not really speaking much Spanish
04:02So I think I learned from speaking French already it wasn't like super hard because it's quite similar
04:06But I learned I think the language the food was great that's something that I liked and then
04:11What's cool about it about Madrid in general is that like it's a very international city
04:15So you meet obviously there's a lot of Spanish people
04:17But there's like people from everywhere a lot of French, Italians, everything
04:20So it's been fun to like meet people from all backgrounds
04:23The like nightlife and stuff is super fun going out clubs, bars
04:27A lot of like live music bars and stuff that I would go a lot
04:30Like every week I'd go with friends like to like a rock bar near Seoul and like play on stage
04:35And so that's super fun as well
04:37You can do everything here so it's really fun
04:38And there's like a lot of different like scenes that's quite cool
04:41I had to I had to like get away from some problems that were sticked in my
04:48Word there and I had to get autonomous and get to learn how I feel why I feel and
04:56um how to change these these parameters let's say
05:01Yeah, and what is something that you can do here that maybe you couldn't do in DC besides having like a more personal free time?
05:09You know, like what's something that you feel is completely different that you couldn't do there?
05:12Um completely different
05:14I don't know because they're both kind of big cities
05:16I think the concept of like going out and grabbing a drink is definitely more affordable like just so much more affordable here
05:22I don't know like something like El Rasho is something that like doesn't happen
05:26Um in the U.S. so much so I guess enjoying the outdoors but not really in like a parkway
05:31But just like being outside outside of your apartment outside of your job or whatever
05:35Um, you definitely have more free time like lunches take longer time
05:41Dinners you have more social interaction like at night people just have like a more of a social life. I could say
05:47Yeah, I'd say going to get drinks with your friends or going to like Retiro to hang out in the park
05:53It's less like sitting around hanging out but going to actually do something to hang out with your friends
05:59A ver la fiesta es distinta aquí la gente es más se acerca más no te haces más amigos aquí yo creo
06:06No sé en Francia la gente es un poco más cuadriculada y más como
06:09I feel like in America it's more structured like for me my routine was go to school go to work
06:19Spend time with family and friends of course, but I did a lot of studying. I was home all the time and
06:26Like when you live in America, there's nothing really to do based on where you're living
06:30But because of that I was kind of like in one place and kind of depressed
06:39No, you're good. Um, I feel like here like the lifestyle is a little bit different like the day and so much later here
06:46Than it does in the u.s. I think that in the u.s
06:48Like, you know
06:48You're trying to like start getting ready for bed at like 10
06:50But here that's less when you're starting to go and have you're like your night, you know what I mean?
06:54And like people are just like so much more like open
06:57I think like the people who are we're surrounding us with are also studying abroad
07:00So it's like the lifestyle it's the people and I think it's just like the atmosphere that like it's much more like relaxed
07:05Like time is not as important
07:07There you go
07:08If that makes sense
07:08I don't know if if if like my life has like changed a lot, but I think
07:15I enjoy it a lot more maybe being here, so that's been quite cool
07:19And is there anything you miss about Italy at the moment?
07:24No, no, no, no, no, not even the food
07:27I found some very good restaurants here
07:30Can you recommend ones like very like authentic Italian restaurants here in Madrid?
07:33Yes, yes, Fratelli d'Italia
07:36It's the the first two words of the inno nazionale italian
07:43Very good pasta
07:45Absolutely
07:46The food the fast food from back in the U.S.
07:49Yeah, there's the food is just very different the food here is very fresh
07:53Back in the U.S.
07:54It's a little bit more processed you could say, but it's better I feel
07:57I'd say grocery stores are a big difference like in the U.S.
08:01You go to one place and you can get everything you need, but here you can go to like
08:05I don't know if you need to go to the express to just get something quick
08:08Or you can go to an actual market and get fresh meats fresh fish
08:12Yeah
08:12And like so you have to shop around to get what you want
08:14But I think they both have their pros and cons
08:17At first I missed my car just like going somewhere in like five or ten minutes
08:23But now I enjoy taking the metro and like yeah, that was the thing that I really missed
08:28But now I really love the embracing the metro system here
08:33I I think I miss Trader Joe's
08:35It's like a grocery store, but yeah, I think I mean besides like my family and my friends and everything
08:40I guess I just miss the convenience of like driving because here I take the metro everywhere and back at home
08:45Like I would have my car so it was super nice to just like drive to whatever you need drive with your groceries instead of carrying all of them
08:52Like all of that, but yeah, I miss peanut butter
08:56That's it
08:57Everything yeah, everything else is like it's pretty yeah adaptable is similar. Yeah, I mean my family
09:04definitely
09:05And my friends I guess but I mean it's not that far, you know, it's like
09:10Take a Ryanair flight, and it's a it's not too expensive. It's not too far and I mean
09:15Belgium itself like I love Belgium, but I don't know if I miss it that much
09:19Not yet at least
09:19Not yet
09:20What is the most difficult to live here in Spain?
09:24The most difficult?
09:25I think the most difficult was
09:26I was looking for a basement for the summer and now I'm in a boat
09:31How in a boat?
