00:00Hello and welcome to another edition of Look Around London. Today we're at London's
00:05abandoned crossing, Galleons Bridge.
00:07Galleons Bridge is a long forgotten piece of London's history, and it was an ambitious
00:12project meant to connect the Royal Docks in East London to the Thames Gateway. First conceived
00:17in the 1990s, the bridge was part of a wider regeneration plan to improve transportation
00:23and stimulate growth in the area. It was designed to be a stunning modern structure, capable
00:28of carrying traffic and pedestrians. However, despite initial designs and plans, Galleons
00:34Bridge was never built. Funding issues, political shifts and change in priorities led to delays,
00:40and the project was eventually shelved. While transportation needs in East London continue
00:46to grow, Galleons Bridge stands as a symbol of what might have been showcasing the challenges
00:51of large infrastructure projects in London.
