In this video, Josh shows you how to make hot pants chili, which made its debut at the 1974 World Championship Chili Cookoff by Allegani Jani Schofield. This beanless chili recipe includes not one but two surprising ingredients: mole paste and masa flour. This recipe is rich, sweet, and nutty, and it's the best thing to make for dinner on cozy autumn nights.

00:00I just discovered my new favorite fall recipe, and it's called, wait for it, hot pants chili.
00:05So back in 1974, Allegheny Johnny Schofield won the world championship chili cook-off with her
00:10hot pants chili recipe. Her hot pants chili turned heads thanks to its surprising ingredients. The
00:15first one is mole paste. It's a concentrated form of mole, a slow simmered Mexican mother sauce made
00:20from dried chilies, spices, nuts, fruit, and even chocolate. Now it took its name from the short
00:25shorts she was wearing when she won. How funny is that? The second ingredient is masa flour, which is
00:30used to make tortillas. You whisk it with a little bit of water and then add it to the chili to help
00:34thicken it. Let's see if hot pants lives up to its name. You can really taste that mole paste.
00:39That's fantastic. Okay, I gotta stop eating this or I won't fit into my hot pants.
