US President Donald Trump has hinted at a possible tariff rollback on China — but only if Beijing meets his conditions. Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said China “probably can’t keep paying” the massive tariffs imposed by Washington, suggesting a potential thaw in US-China trade relations. However, the US President made clear that any tariff reduction would require China to resume buying American soybeans and stop the flow of fentanyl into the United States.

00:00I have a very good relationship with President Xi of China.
00:03We're having disputes on things.
00:05They're paying us a lot of money, tremendous amount of money in tariffs.
00:08China's paying a tremendous amount of money in tariffs like they've never paid before.
00:13You know, they paid a lot during my first administration, my first term.
00:17I don't want them to do that.
00:18I want to help China.
00:19I want to, I'm not looking to hurt China, but they have to give us things too.
00:22I want China to stop with the fentanyl.
00:25Very, you know, normal things.
00:27I don't want them to play the rare earth game with us.
00:30We have a, I have a very good relationship with President Xi of China.
00:34We're having disputes on things.
00:36They're paying us a lot of money, tremendous amount of money in tariffs.
00:39And they'd probably like to have it be less.
00:41And we'll work on that.
00:43But they have to give us some things too.
00:45Right now, China's paying a tremendous amount of money in tariffs like they've never paid before.
00:50You know, they paid a lot during my first administration, my first term.
00:54And now they're paying an unbelievable amount of money to the United States.
00:58They probably can't pay that much.
01:01And I'm okay with that.
01:02We can lower that.
01:02But they have to do things for us too.
01:04It's no longer a one-way street.
01:06What would you lower it to, do you think?
01:08Depends.
01:08I mean, we'll have to see what they want.
01:10One of the penalties we have is because they're sending in fentanyl, we have a 20 percent,
01:15as you know, a 20 percent tariff on that.
01:17But they'd be paying about 157 percent tariff, which is, you know, record-setting type tariff.
01:23I don't want them to do that.
01:25I want to help China.
01:26I want to, I'm not looking to hurt China.
01:28But they have to give us things too.
01:30Speaking of China, Mr. President, on soybeans, are you confident that you'll be able to get it?
01:33I want them to buy soybeans.
01:34One of the things I want is China's going to buy soybeans.
01:37I want China to stop with the fentanyl.
01:40Very, you know, normal things.
01:42I don't want them to play the rare earth game with us.
01:44But you want them to, but do you think they will make a deal on soybeans?
01:47I do believe, yeah, because otherwise I'm not going to make a deal.
01:50No, I want them to buy.
01:51Our farmers have been boycotted by China as a negotiating point.
01:55I don't want that.
01:56Our farmers are great, and in particular our soybean farmers.
02:00And I want them to start buying soybeans at least in the amount that they were buying before.
02:06And I believe they'll be able to do that.
02:08But sticking with soybeans, and on Argentina, you're, you know, you're looking to do that deal with Argentina, the bail spot.
02:14With respect to beef?
02:16Are we expecting a beef deal?
02:18I assume you're talking about beef.
02:20Yeah, to get beef prices down.
02:22The only price we have that's high is beef, and we'll get that down.
02:25And one of the things we're thinking about doing is beef from Argentina.
02:29But my question is, what do you have to say to U.S. farmers who feel that the deal is benefiting Argentina more than it is them, as they are a top-
02:37Argentina is fighting for its life, young lady.
02:40You don't know anything about it.
02:41They're fighting for their life.
02:42Nothing is benefiting Argentina.
02:44They're fighting for their life.
02:46You understand what that means?
02:47They have no money.
02:48They have no anything.
02:49They're fighting so hard to survive.
02:51If I can help them survive in a free world, I happen to like the president of Argentina.
02:57I think he's trying to do the best he can.
02:59But don't make it sound like they're doing great.
