00:00Power Service, and you're the expert. Tell us, what can go wrong with a diesel over time?
00:04Well, over time, when you're running different varieties of fuel through the engines of diesel,
00:10places you're getting the fuel, we're seeing carbon buildup on injectors. We're seeing deposits,
00:14foreign deposits getting on injectors. So customers are seeing rough idle, you know,
00:19lack performance, increased emissions. And so we've come up with this diesel injector and DPF
00:25flush in order to address those concerns. Power Service has been known for years and years for
00:30your anti-gel and other diesel products. This is a new product. This is your first new product in 20
00:35years. So why has it been 20 years since you've developed something new? And how'd you find the
00:40need for this? Well, we don't traditionally come out just with products for the sake of coming out
00:45with products. We want to come out with a product that really fits a customer's needs. With the
00:50evolution of diesel engines, with the diesel fuel that's changed into ultra-low sulfur diesel,
00:54the bio-blended fuels, the alternative fuels are out there, there was an opportunity for this
00:59product to come out and address some of the new concerns or newer concerns of the diesel engines.
01:05You know, injector, you know, balance, you know, making sure that all six injectors in the engine,
01:10or however many injectors that particular engine has, are injecting the proper amounts of fuel
01:15through the combustion chamber so you have a harmony of those injection events happening. And so your
01:20engine can run to the peak performance that it was designed to do. Your truck does a
01:24regen. Folks may or may not know that. I think folks that have diesels will probably know. It does a
01:29regen every so often, and that cleans that filter, among other things. How does the gold standard
01:34here, how does that change the efficiency when it comes to regens? What we look at with the diesel
01:38injector DPF flush product is how does it increase? And what we've seen up to a 50% increase in the
01:45mileage between regens. You brought a couple of examples, specific examples of trucks that you guys
01:50have seen. How much efficiency are we talking just in the first tank full, the first fill?
01:55So in the testing that we've been doing over the last year and a half, we've tested class 7 and 8
02:01trucks. We've tested 1500 GMC trucks with the three liter. We've tested 2500, you know, three quarter ton
02:08trucks. And we've seen up to 50%, you know, increase in distance between the regens and, you know, average
02:15across the board on those. You know, the class 7 and 8 truck, we saw, I think it was 38% increase in,
02:21you know, distance between regens. You know, in the 1500, it was just over 50%. Break it down for
02:27me. If I'm going longer between regens, how's that helping me? Well, you know, it's easier on the
02:31systems. You know, these regen systems, when they go through the regen, it's hot, it's burning out the,
02:38you know, soot, but it's also shortening the life of the DPF filters. And so in a serviceable time,
02:43it's going to save you money and save you time and service costs in replacing DPF filters,
02:50going into a shop to get a cleanup on a DPF filter. A lot of the class 7 and 8 trucks,
02:55they're removing the DPF filter, taking it to shop, having it professionally cleaned and put it back
03:00on a truck. That's downtime, that's inefficiency in their fleet. So in a product with diesel injector
03:06and DPF flush, we can lessen that burden on those trucking fleets. The average consumer in a lighter
03:12duty truck, they don't, like I said, they don't know when it's regenning, but when it is, it's
03:17burning out that ceramics, it's hurting the internals of that DPF filter the more frequent it
03:22does. So they're going to eliminate that repair. And what am I going to notice when it comes to
03:26fuel economy? We've seen crazy fuel economy results, but we're looking at, you know, hey,
03:32an average of increase of up to 10% increase in fuel economy. We've measured that from the,
03:37like I said, the 1500 to the 2500 to the class 7a truck, each showed a, you know, a wide range
03:43of increase in fuel economy, but it all stems from cleaning the injection system, reducing the
03:49amount of regens that burns a lot of fuel when it's going through a regen cycle. And so all that
03:53together and, you know, based on a clean injector is you're seeing massive improvements in fuel
03:59economy. How often do I need to use this? We recommend once a month as a maintenance item,
04:04just every, every month, month, dump a bottle of this product into the tank and, you know,
04:10let it go to work. And the beauty about this product is the rapid response that you're going
04:14to see of it. It's one tank. It's dump it straight into the fuel tank and let it go to work in your
04:19injection system. You're also famous for your diesel clean at power service. When do I use that?
04:25Diesel clean is designed as a detergent, a cetane improver and a lubricator to be used at every
04:30fill up. And then this is a deep clean into your injection system on a monthly or as needed basis.
04:37Essentially, the diesel clean is like brushing your teeth every single day. And the diesel flush is
04:42like when you go to the dentist every six months to get the deep clean. You can find both of those
04:45products at powerservice.com and a whole lot more. We've got a whole lot more Motorhead Garage
04:51presented by Steel Rubber Products right after this. So please keep it right here.
04:54Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products brought to you by DeadScent. Start treating your
05:02nose to better days. Amsoil, the first in synthetics. And by Custom Auto Sound, audio for the great
05:11classics, customs, and street rods.
05:13This ball joint, well, it's connected to the spindle. Well, think about this. Your spindle
05:25assembly is holding on your brakes, your rotor, and your whole wheel assembly. If this goes bad,
05:31shoom, the wheel's going right by you off your vehicle. Welcome to this Amsoil tech tip. Now,
05:37you don't believe me? You can take a look at our street rod right here. You actually see the
05:40I-beam suspension come up. It's connected right here to this ball joint, and the ball joint's the
05:44only thing holding this spindle on. So it better be in good shape, and you better keep it maintained
05:49and maintained properly. You can see it right here on a modern vehicle. It's actually holding the whole
05:54upper control arm on and the lower control arm. You may have two ball joints, one single ball joint,
05:59but it has to be maintained. It has to be greased. It has to be lubricated. They come in all shapes and
06:05sizes. Press in, drilled in, slotted, and rotored, all kinds of ways to rivet, to put these things
06:10in the vehicle. Now, what do you want to do to check them? Well, it depends on the location.
06:14Which one is the follower and which one is the load carrying ball joint? Now, you see the one on
06:18the left there, the spring's located in the middle of the two control arms? Well, then the load carrying
06:23ball joint's on the bottom, so you want to jack up on the actual lower control arm. What you're doing,
06:27you're taking the tension off of it. Now, the other one there, the spring's up on the top. That makes the
06:32top the load carrying ball joint, so jack up on the frame, and then you just wiggle the wheel back and
06:37forth. Better yet, I did it right here for you. I got it suspended there on the lower control arm.
06:42Actually, look at that dial indicator. We're prying up and down on that thing.
06:46Ooh, man. And that thing's going about a hundred thousandths. I mean, a little grease gun,
06:52a little maintenance, that doesn't have to happen, does it? No. You know, to be honest with you,
06:56that's something that always gets me, because if you have a greasable ball joint, and you actually
07:01maintain it and put grease in it, they don't wear out. You know, you see them in there for 20 years,
07:07and you maintain, and you keep the grease in between those mating surfaces, they don't wear
07:11out. Now, what makes a grease a good grease like Amsoil? Well, here's the thing. People don't
07:16understand about grease. The greasy part, that's called thickener. That's really there to hold the
07:22oil in place. The part of the grease that's actually doing the work is still oil. So it goes back to
07:27many of yours and my previous conversations in the fact that you need to start with a good base oil,
07:32and then you need to put additives in it to get it to do what you want. And in the case of a grease,
07:36you use a good heavy base oil, make sure you've got some extreme pressure additives in there,
07:40all of which need to be high quality, and a good thickener that's going to hold that grease in
07:45place under all kinds of different temperatures, and you're good to go. Yeah, absolutely good to go.
07:51Now, you know, a lack of maintenance on your vehicle's chassis may just cause your car to be
07:55unstable, but lack of maintenance on your engine and transmission, well, that's catastrophic.
07:59Make maintenance easy. Just go to Amsoil.com.
08:06My name is Chris Bentley, and this is my 1950 Ford F1.
08:21This started out as a 1950. I've basically redone everything. I've owned it for three years.
08:26We've swapped the motor. It's backed with an AOD transmission, four nine-inch rear end, full AccuAir air ride
08:33suspension, brand new interior. I upgraded to the Holley digital dash. I found the truck in Tennessee.
08:39It belonged to a farmer who owned a lot of collision shops. He passed away, unfortunately, so the family
08:44was auctioning off some of his vehicles. I was able to get a hold of this one. I still stay in contact with the
08:49family. I send them pictures of the upgrades. If I'm ever back that way, they always invite me to stop by
08:54and let them check it out. I cherish it, and I know they're glad that somebody like me got a hold of it.
09:05I go to car shows almost every weekend. A lot of times, I'm one of the younger ones there.
09:09It's nice to see that the younger generation is still restoring these older cars. I've had some help
09:13with some pain, things like that, that I'm not the best at. Basically, everything I've done, if I didn't do
09:19the work myself, it was my vision. This is definitely a big head-turner. All ages, all groups.
09:24I think it's actually the biggest with the older ladies. They all seem to love it. The air ride was
09:29definitely what set it to the next level. The stance changed everything, made it a whole new truck,
09:34not to mention it just rides like a Cadillac. What do you have on this truck that's from Steel
09:38River? My door seals. They've definitely made the road noise a lot quieter, sealed out all the water,
09:44so I'm real happy with those. I know that I can contact them if I need any other seals. If they
09:49don't have them, they'll custom make them for me. I really do appreciate that.
09:54You're watching Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products. We'll be right back.
09:59Welcome back to Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products.
10:04All right, so you've seen Mouse Blocker before on Motorhead Garage, and you're thinking,
10:08well, I don't need that because I have a cat. Well, cats are great against mice most of the time,
10:13because cats take naps, they get distracted, and they're not on duty 24 hours a day.
10:18Mouse Blocker, on the other hand, never sleeps. It's a proven electronic deterrent,
10:22and it sends rodents packing before they chew through thousands of dollars of wiring inside
10:26your car. Unlike a cat, Mouse Blocker won't scratch your paint, won't leave fur on your seats,
10:31and it won't wander off when you need it most, and we know cats do that all the time.
10:35Mouse Blocker is reliable and effective, and it's built specifically to guard your car,
10:39truck, RV, or stored vehicle from costly damage. Do not gamble with your ride. Skip the litter box
10:45and go with a solution that works 24-7. You can protect your vehicle with Mouse Blocker. Just go
10:51to MouseBlocker.com. Now, if you see the legendary S&S diesel logo on the side of a vehicle,
10:57you know you're in for an education. Today, we're talking about the 6.7-liter Power Stroke
11:01engine that's under the hood of these Fords. Now, these things are stalwarts. They run forever and
11:05ever, but Luke, there is an Achilles heel with these engines, and what is that?
11:10The high-pressure fuel pump is really the main Achilles heel. Like you said, they're a great
11:13truck. Lots of power and lots of reliability, realistically, but they've earned a reputation
11:19for having early life failures and reliability problems with the high-pressure fuel pump that
11:24comes in them from the factory. How much pressure is running through those pumps?
11:272,000 bar to 2,500 bar, so you're talking over 30,000 PSI in a lot of these cases. So,
11:33pressure is that most of the world can't hardly fathom that kind of pressure, right? But that's
11:37what the modern common rail diesel fuel systems live under all the time. So, it is a lot of stress.
11:42It's a lot of pressure with the factory pump if everything isn't just right. They're having
11:46failures, catastrophic engine problems sometimes, and lots of expensive downtime. Luke, last time you
11:52were here, we were talking about the disaster prevention kit that S&S diesel has been making
11:57for years. How does that work, and why do folks want to use that? Yeah, so that product we've had
12:02for years, like you said, it's kind of cheap insurance. It leaves the factory pump in place,
12:06but it changes the flow path within the pump. So, when the pump fails, it protects the injectors
12:12and the rest of the system. There's a return side filter, because when these pumps do fail,
12:16they send metal shrapnel throughout the rest of the system. So, about $10,000 repair. Yeah,
12:21at least. It's painful, and the disaster prevention kit is kind of cheap insurance. So,
12:25you still have the risk of downtime of the pump, but at least the rest of the components are saved.
12:30So, let's take a look and see how that works here. You have a few pumps with you here. We're going
12:34to talk about these two. This is the stock pump that would come here on the Power Stroke engine. So,
12:38show us what we're looking at, how that works, and how that all functions, and we'll get an idea of
12:42why it fails. Yep. So, this is the factory CP4 pump. That's in 2011 to current model year. Any 67 Ford
12:49Power Stroke is running that. So, it is a two-cylinder pump in a V, like this pattern,
12:55but it is a metal roller, which, like this basically, metal roller riding on a cam. And
13:02it's high speed metal to metal contact. Every rotation, it's going up and down twice every rev.
13:11And so, what happens, unfortunately, is that roller that rides here can turn 90 degrees like that in a
13:20lot of model years. And then, all it's doing is stripping metal out of the cam. And that's an
13:25actual victim right there. That actually came out of your truck. You tried to fail on purpose,
13:28but that's what will happen. Yep. This is what happens often in these trucks is that turns,
13:32and it digs a groove like that. All the metal that's now missing from here is everywhere else
13:37in the system. What also happens on these two is that roller in general, if you get just a little
13:42piece of debris or anything stuck in here, then it just seizes, and then it just starts grinding.
13:47And it's all over. Sometimes, actually, these pumps will see so hard it splits the pump in half,
13:51but it's a pretty painful failure and very expensive. And for guys that rely on their
13:57trucks every day, the downtime is as expensive as the actual parts cost sometimes. And I can see
14:02where fleets would really love something. For sure. Some solution to this. Yep. And speaking of that
14:06solution now, instead of the disaster prevention kit, you guys thought, well, how do we prevent this
14:11from happening in the first place? Yep. So you came up with your new fuel pump here. Yeah. And this is
14:15how that works and let's see the design difference here and why this works so well. So completely
14:19different bottom end architecture. It's still a two cylinder pump, but it's a two cylinder opposed
14:23like that. And instead of a roller riding straight on the cam, it is a eccentric off, basically offset
14:30cam with a roller on it. That roller is also lubricated with pressurized fuel up underneath it
14:36here. So this is riding on a, on a film of fuel, just like a crankshaft or in an engine with oil.
14:41And, uh, so very little metal to metal parts, uh, much stronger bottom end. And, uh, it's,
14:48it's just less moving parts, less to fail, a lot smoother, uh, operation and just really much
14:57more robust setup. It's, it's hard to hurt these. These are very sensitive design and why take the
15:02chance. Yep. So we co-developed this product with Stanadyne, which is a well-known fuel manufacturer
15:08as well. This is actually a proven architecture used on medium duty, heavy duty engines, other
15:12parts of the world. We took this, our engineering teams and theirs worked to adapt this into the
15:17Ford platform. And what years does this cover? 2011 to current one part number we designed to cover
15:23all model years, which was quite a challenge, but it makes it nice for customers and dealers to just
15:27have one part number and they can install that on any truck that rolls in the door. That explains the
15:31circuitous high pressure lines there. Yep. Yep. Fit everything. So this is what all comes in that kit.
15:36It's everything you need to drop in. You don't have to modify anything in the truck. It's no
15:40tuning required. Uh, we went through all the trouble to get, uh, the car emissions compliance,
15:45uh, certification and all that as well. So it's 50 state compliant. And, uh, yeah, that's why these
15:50are designed this way is because the different model years had different changes, uh, with coolant
15:55lines and other fuel lines and every other thing. These, there's not a lot of real estate under
15:59these hoods anymore. So it's a challenge to make it work, but this, uh, threads the needle to make
16:04it work on all model years. This has been in production since June of 2023, you told me.
16:09So you've had about a year with this pump out on the market. How's it going so far?
16:12Great. Um, we've had great uptake from the market. It's been a product that they've wanted
16:17for a long time. All the Ford guys knew that there was a problem, but it wasn't until this
16:21product came about that there was a real solution for it. So we had a lot of demand for it and it's
16:26been a real success for, for us and for the market to have a final solution.
16:30You're always working on new stuff at SMS Diesel. Tell us where you're coming from on
16:34this trip. Yeah. Always working on continual improvements as well. So me and my engineering
16:38team, we're, uh, down in South Carolina with Stanadyne's engineering teams as well, uh, where
16:42the, the, in Blackwood, South Carolina is where this pump is produced. So I'm keeping it here
16:47in the U S and we're working through continual improvements and things that we can do to make
16:52it the best product possible. Why take a chance? If you have one of these 6.7 liter power stroke
16:56engines, you are going to want the DCR pump from SNS Diesel Motorsports. And oh, by the
17:01way, if you have a competition truck, this has a potential for a lot more performance too.
17:06We'll be right back with more Motorhead Garage presented by steel rubber products.com. So
17:09don't go anywhere. Motorhead Garage presented by steel rubber products brought to you by
17:17spray gunner best products ship fast Suds lab car care for all science-based detailing
17:25and by truck claws unstuck unmatched unbeatable. When we decided to bring some off-road folks
17:35into the studio, we decided just to go big. So we brought in off-road armor. They're one of the
17:40biggest retailers in the entire world of off-road accessories. Kurt, you guys make quite a name for
17:46yourself so far and you're making quite a name for yourself with these windows here, the upper door
17:51panels. Now, this is something only you guys do and we've gotten here on this Honda. Tell me about
17:56this design. Yeah. So these are the upper doors, upper aluminum doors for the Honda Pioneer 1000 and
18:011005. We are the only ones making anything like this in the world, so they're getting very popular.
18:07They are aluminum, like I mentioned, with scratch resistant Lexan here. So when you're going through
18:11the trails and you hit a few trees, this is a very heavy-duty hinge for the Honda Pioneer. And it
18:16looks like that angle on the front kind of sheds the tree. Yeah, yeah, just glanced right off of
18:21there. We developed that to do that as well as putting a really nice thick rubber seal around this
18:26door to help enclose it and to keep the heat if you have a heater on the side-by-side. So I'll go
18:31ahead and open it up here. Take a look. And I love this because it's a two-fold thing. It's
18:35obviously for protection. And you don't really realize until you're out there off-roading how
18:39many branches come into the windows and want to whack you in the head. Absolutely. So this will
18:42protect you from that. And especially our folks watching on Rev TV Canada, Canadian folks love
18:47this. They put a heater in the vehicle and this will keep your family warm when you're going through
18:50the tundra up there. Absolutely. So what you can do is, you know, in the middle of the day when it
18:55starts to get cool, you can really just take this upper door off very quick, right? And a lot of things
19:00like this, you think of them as being super permanent. You know, you've got to make a decision.
19:04Do I want these windows forever or do I not? And this is the perfect situation. It starts to get
19:08warm during the day and you just stop and you can... Absolutely. Four bolts. So four bolts. We're going
19:14to take those out. The hinge will hold it. All right. And we'll just go ahead. Straight up. Take that
19:18right off the hinge. That's it. There you go. You are cruising. One of the best deals about this is the
19:23Honda Pioneers have a door that is kind of funky to put your arm on. So one of the other things is
19:30when you don't have that upper door on, let me just show you here. I'm going to have a seat. You've
19:35got a really nice armrest now. Perfect. We've got a lot of people asking us, hey, can I just get the
19:39armrest? It's great. These are used for recreational and agricultural. So we get a lot of farmers that use
19:48them and riders that use these as well. Off-road armor is not just about side-by-sides. You guys
19:53also do things for all kinds of other off-road vehicles. Side-by-sides, ATVs, Jeeps, trucks,
20:00dirt bikes, anything off-road, we can take care of it. We've seen you in some video on some pretty
20:05high-profile rides out there. Who do you sponsor? So we've got Connor Martell, who's our main guy
20:11racing Nitro Rallycross right now. And he's one of the best rally car drivers in the world,
20:16actually. We're really excited to have him on the team. If you've got a Honda Pioneer 1000,
20:21you're going to love these upper doors. These windows are going to keep you warm. They're
20:24going to keep you safe on the trail. And if you're any kind of off-roader, you need to go check them
20:28out at offroadarmor.com. Thanks for tuning in to Motorhead Garage presented by Steel Rubber
20:33Products. We will be back in seven days. In the meantime, just want to remind you, we're streaming
20:37everywhere. You find TV and video. We'll see you in seven days. Until then, drive safely. So long.
