00:00doesn't love that new car smell. But bad odors can ruin a good time in any vehicle. Just think
00:05about it. Mold and mildew in an RV or a boat. Pet odors. Old food, especially if you have little
00:11kids like I do. Or the worst, cigarette or cigar smoke. Air fresheners and sprays just mask the
00:17odor and you end up with the smell of strawberries and smoke. Or lemon and mildew. It's super gross.
00:23Those sprays and air fresheners never actually take care of the problem. But dead scent is
00:27different. Dead scent actually eliminates odors at the source. Now I won't get into the weeds with
00:32the science, but when you activate dead scent, it produces environmentally safe chlorine dioxide.
00:38Those chlorine dioxide molecules actually break up the odor molecules and eliminate the bad scent
00:43on the spot. Now I know what you're asking. Dead scent is safe for people. It's safe for pets.
00:50It is safe for the environment. The package is even recyclable. And yes, dead scent is simple to use in
00:55your car, RV, your boat, or your home. Scott Vestal, our head of operations here, bought a
01:00classic Corvette just a few months ago. It was in good shape, but the previous owners were smokers.
01:05Scott remembered that we had a dead scent treatment pack on one of our studio shelves.
01:10He ran one single treatment of dead scent and the smell was totally gone. He tells me that after the
01:15treatment, he aired out the car and there was no trace of smoke to be found. And I've been in the car
01:19and believe me, if it smelled like smoke, I wouldn't have gotten in in the first place.
01:23But don't believe us. Here's a review from the trash crew at the Buffalo Chip Campground,
01:28one of the main centers of the Sturges Motorcycle Rally. Wally wrote to say that he used dead scent
01:33in the crew's trailer. Now we're talking hardworking folks who've been sweating all day
01:37and slinging garbage. Just imagine the smell in there. Well, dead scent completely eliminated those
01:43odors for good. You can find sterling reviews for dead scent all over the interwebs. And these are
01:49real endorsements from real users. Joy used dead scent after her husband forgot some hamburgers in
01:54the freezer for a couple of weeks. When they went to take their camper out for another trip,
01:58they discovered thousands of flies and the horrible smell of rotting meat. Joy says she was afraid she'd
02:04never be able to use her camper again, but dead scent came to the rescue. It completely removed the
02:09rotten meat smell. And Joy and her husband are happy campers once again. Logan W. had a leaky sunroof,
02:15and we know how that kind of mildew can smell really badly for a long time. Well, not after
02:19using dead scent. And finally, Flo K. has a yacht that stayed sealed up for two years, and just imagine
02:25what that smelled like. Flo followed the instructions, and she used dead scent, and the smell is history.
02:30You can find tons of testimonials just like those at deadcent.com. Everything you need to treat,
02:36even the most offensive odors comes in one package, and there are different sizes depending on what
02:41type or size vehicle you are treating. Dead scent couldn't be easier to use. Check this out. If you
02:46can, first of all, you park your vehicle in the shade, or you wait till there's no direct sunlight
02:49on it. Probably a good idea to lay down a towel before you start the treatment. Then you just open
02:54the clamshell and take everything out of the package, pour in some water, fill it right up to the fill
02:59line, and you are almost done. Now, take the treatment packet and place it blue side down in the water.
03:05That's really important. You'll see it start to react immediately. You just exit and close the
03:10space, whether it's a room, a car, an RV, or a boat, and you just wait overnight or for about six
03:15hours, and you'll be all set. When you come back, just open the windows and air out the space, and you
03:20are done. You'll smell the dead scent, which has a clean, maybe slightly salty smell to it, but not for
03:25long. Once you air out the vehicle or the room, you will not smell a thing. Pet odors, body odors,
03:30vomit, pet accidents, smoke, all gone, and that's because dead scent doesn't mask anything. It
03:37eliminates the odors right at the source. I mentioned that I have kids who drop food in the
03:41car, which can get stinky, and at last count, we also have about a trillion cats. They love it in
03:46the den, and sometimes they even find a litter box, but for the times when they don't, dead scent has
03:50ultimate enzyme spray. You can buy it in two different sizes. I'm going to see if I can buy a
03:55tanker truck of it. Actually, a little goes a long way. Dead scent's ultimate enzyme spray uses
03:59special microbes to target urine and other organic odors, and the enzymes in the spray eliminate
04:05odors right at the source. You will not be able to smell them anymore. It's so good that your pets
04:09will even be unlikely to return to the spot again to do their thing or to mark their territory in the
04:14first place. Yes, the ultimate enzyme spray is safe to use around your pets. It's safe for the
04:18environment. You can use it on pavement, gravel, walls, fake grass, and of course carpets and
04:23furniture, but it's not just for pet odors. Parents and daycare workers, you know what kind
04:27of smells I'm talking about, and the ultimate enzyme spray is great for trash cans, dumpsters,
04:32and even at fridge or garbage disposal. You can read a pile of reviews online. Dead scent really
04:37works, and with very little effort. Just think about how miserable a bad smelling car or RV can make
04:42you feel. Take back your vehicle, get dead scent, and eliminate the odor at the source. Find it at
04:47deadcent.com. Still to come, John Gardner breaks down distributor ignition, and we take a look
04:53at a classic Dodge dream car. You're watching Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber
04:58Products. We'll be right back. Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products, brought to you

05:21Now, you've seen the cell phone seat before, but what if I told you it's gotten even better? That's
05:25one of the most popular items we've ever seen here on the show. Scott, when you invented the
05:30cell phone seat, it was an evolutionary process. You kept getting feedback, and you kept trying it out,
05:34and you've done that again, an evolution through what your customers have to say. So how has the
05:38cell phone seat gotten even better? So great questions. We had a lot of feedback from our
05:43customers. They love the product, but they mentioned some things that could potentially be better.
05:46Well, we've worked really hard to make some improvements on the device itself. Not only
05:50have we changed the front to make your front navigation buttons more accessible, we've also
05:55included optional foam inserts. So some people had a little bit of movement, maybe with smaller
05:59phones or phones without cases. Now we've got these amazing foam inserts that you can easily
06:04put into the holder to work for smaller phones or phones that don't have a case. We also have
06:09modified the base. So if you have any type of movement in your cup holder, I mean, because there's,
06:14you know, 100 million different combinations of cup holders, of cell phone sizes, plus you have
06:20accessories and cases. So we have created these foam strips that you can now put around the base
06:25of your cell phone seat to ensure that it fits perfectly and stays secure in your cup holder
06:30while you're driving. Now that wasn't an exaggeration. 100 million is actually the number Scott came up
06:34with using AI to figure out how many different combinations there are. And this, of all devices
06:39out there, there are other options. This fits more than any other. Why is it so adaptable?
06:45Well, we just made it really universal, right? It has a flexible set of rings on the base that you
06:49can flex from four inches down to about three inches. You can even modify these to get down
06:53to 2.5 inches if needed. And we have that in our instructions. We left the top very open to
06:58accommodate for larger phones, phones with large cases. People, I use a wallet case on my phone,
07:02so I need a lot of extra room in there. So we do have this large opening for those types of phones.
07:07But of course, a lot of people have very small phones. I mean, you have the newest phone from
07:11iPhone is pretty tiny, right? So that's going to have a little bit of movement when you're in the
07:17device, which is okay. You can have a little bit of movement when it's in there, but with the new
07:21foam inserts, check that out. Don't try this at home. So now with the new foam inserts, you can
07:26actually put those in there and not have any movement on any different type of phone. Now I mentioned
07:31this is an evolutionary process and the cell phone seat looks super simple, but it was complicated to
07:37get this designed exactly the way you wanted it to. Durability, I know, was also a factor that
07:41you thought of when designing this. Correct. So because it's the only single piece of plastic
07:46that does everything that the cell phone seat does on the market, it had to be extremely durable.
07:51We're very proud to say this is made in America. We make this in Frasier, Michigan,
07:54out of very strong, durable, American-made plastic. This is made by American hands. Again,
08:01we put a lot of pride into the strength that we have and the durability. There is a lifetime warranty
08:04on it. So, hey, if it's five degrees outside and you try to squeeze it into a small cup holder
08:08and you crack it, we're going to replace it for you. Very cool. And you have a lot of
08:12different options now. And there are newer options since the last time we saw you regarding
08:15colors and design. So let's look at some of what's new from the cell phone seat and the
08:20cup holder phone holder, the new version. That's correct. So we've added some new colors,
08:23including a wolf gray, a canyon beige. We do have a lot of our original colors and we're very
08:28excited to show that we have these new custom colors. These are hydrographic dipped and you can get
08:32anything from the tie-dye to American flag version. So people are very excited about those.
08:38And it's more than you can see here. If you go to cellphoneseat.com, you can see even more
08:42designs. One of the things I love about the cell phone seat is that you can actually still use
08:46your cup holder with that. And I think that stands head and shoulders above everything else.
08:51I get in a lot of rental cars. The cup holder is the only place to put the phone and that renders
08:56it useless. I'm not able to use it for anything else. Exactly. You definitely don't want to block
08:59your cup holder. That's the reason I designed this. When I first had the idea, I was throwing
09:03my phone in my cup holder like most people do. It was bouncing around. I couldn't really see it.
09:06The idea popped in my head. We worked for years 3D printing different versions of this to get it
09:10just right. And the ultimate goal of to make it fit universally in most cup holders without
09:16actually blocking the cup holder. Because hey, we need our coffee. We need our water. We need our
09:21protein energy drink. Whatever the drink of the day is, we need to have access to it. So this can be
09:26used anywhere there's a cup holder between 3 and 4 inches. It's going to work in golf carts.
09:29It's going to work in, we've even heard it works in tractors. It's going to work in your cars. It's
09:33going to work in your trucks. It's going to work in your boat. It's even going to work at home in
09:36your recliner. And it's going to work with more than just phones here. If you've got a kid maybe
09:40with their iPad in the back, you can set that right in there and put it in the cup holder in the car
09:46seat. You're good to go. That's correct. Now your kid's back there. He can watch whatever he likes to
09:49watch or play on his iPad. He doesn't even lose spot for his apple juice or his milk. Now there are imitators out
09:54there. You can go to other websites and you can find a cheap substitute. It may look the same,
09:57but the design and the quality will not be the same as the cup holder, phone holder from Cell Phone
10:02Seat. The only place to get the real deal is CellPhoneSeat.com. When we come back, John and Len
10:08show us how to diagnose problems with your distributor. Welcome back to Motorhead Garage,
10:14presented by Steel Rubber Products. When the snow flies, your classic car, your RV, your boat,
10:21your Jeep, your motorcycle gets tucked away for the winter and that is when mice move in. To them,
10:28your stored vehicle is warm and it's a quiet place to nest and it's filled with over a mile
10:33of tasty wiring insulation and upholstery. Every winter, rodents cause millions of damage to vehicles
10:39that never even leave the garage and that's where Mouse Blocker comes in. This simple electronic
10:44deterrent is great for vehicles and storage. It's incredibly easy to install and incredibly
10:49effective against mice. Daily drivers, weekend cruisers, classics, collectibles, motorhomes,
10:55boats. Mouse Blocker keeps rodents from turning your vehicle into their winter home. Get Mouse
11:01Blocker at MouseBlocker.com because when spring comes, you want to drive your vehicle. You don't
11:05want to fix it. We're going old school today. I got this old 350 on an engine stand, kind of hyped up a
11:21bit, but I'll tell you what, let's fire it up and see what it sounds like. Man, gotta love it. Old school,
11:35why do I say that? Well, we're dealing with a distributor. What's a distributor? Well, it actually
11:39distributes the spark. That's what it does. You got your coil here feeding this and then the sparks
11:44going down the wire and then the spark plug ignites the air fuel mixture in the cylinder
11:49and causes your engine to run. Welcome to this AMSOIL tech tip. We're talking about ignition
11:54systems, the basics here. The top portion there, you can see that's all the actual high voltage
11:59stuff up there called the secondary and down below is the primary. That's all your small
12:04wires on there. What are we dealing with? Well, on old school, we're dealing with a coil, a cap,
12:09and a distributor. And we didn't go too old here. I actually have some points here. If you're super old,
12:15you know these points go around and when they go around, it's going to open and close. That was the
12:19first distributor out there. And then we went to HEI ignition, high energy ignition here. You guys might
12:24remember this with the big cap and the ignition module built into it. And this one here, we're
12:29talking about electronic ignition, kind of a pickup wheel, but it's still a distributor. A couple of
12:34checks you could make. Well, this is pretty cool. You can check the cap out. And when you check your
12:38cap out, take it off. Look inside of that thing, man. That is a mess right there. So if you look inside
12:43that cap, you can see where it's burnt and or the actual rotor that spins around. It's not going to be
12:48able to distribute the spark. You're going to have an issue there. Len, we can check the wires as well. If I put
12:53this thing on ohms of resistance and you hold this first wire up, sometimes these things will give
12:58you an ohmic value. You can check your service manual, but let me see if I can get into that one.
13:02And there, this one's reading OL. What does that tell you? OL, no path? It means it's open line.
13:07Open line. No good. Out of luck, I guess. Out of luck. Let's try this one here. Uh, hold that for me.
13:13This is a new wire. Hopefully this has some resistance. So if we go from one side to the other,
13:18there we go. Now we're reading. So check your manufacturer's specification.
13:22Each wire's a bit different, but you want to have at least continuity going through there.
13:26Len, we're going old school today. Do you have some AMSOIL products that can help us out there as well?
13:31Absolutely. The old school market, as you call it, usually includes flat-tapped camshafts. When we're
13:37talking about flat-tapped camshafts, zinc and phosphorus always become a subject of conversation.
13:42So we've got a Z-Rod oil that's got over 1,000 ppm zinc-fos to make sure that those are protected.
13:48We've got all kinds of different products that fit into your old school category, if you will.
13:51High mileage. If you want to consider a car with a lot of miles on it, old school,
13:55that's got some seal conditioning agents in it that helps keep those seals soft,
13:59keeps the oil from leaking. Then we go to your full-blown race oil. Those are fortified with
14:03zinc and phosphorus already. This engine sounds pretty healthy. Maybe that's going to want a
14:07racing oil. At the end of the day, we've got product for all of those needs, no matter if they're
14:12old school or not. This engine is healthy because that's what we run in it. Whether you're driving a
14:17classic car, muscle car, restomod or anything in between, keep it protected with the right products
14:22by going to amsoil.com.
14:32My name is Chris Greason. This is my 1950 Dodge Coronet.
14:36This car took me and six young men to preschool in the backseat. So somewhere around age five,
14:48my grandmother was driving us to school. My grandfather bought it as a used car in 1953,
14:55and it was $1,420. So I did most of the mechanical work on it. I've replaced all the rubber products
15:02underneath and using steel rubber products for a lot of it. Then I found a very good body shop in
15:08Denver, North Carolina that could match my paint. The interior has the original mohair seats. It has the
15:15original headliner in it. It even has the original pedals covers on them. They're hard as rock rubber, but
15:23my grandfather and grandmother's feet were on those pedals, and I'm not replacing them until I absolutely
15:28have to. I don't know. If you're not a car person, I guess you wouldn't get it. I remember when a 65
15:34Mustang came out. I had a 57 Chevy convertible when I got married, and my wife had a 56 Chevy two-door post.
15:41My kind of gal. Right after this, we'll check out some high-quality gear that's handcrafted
15:48for adventure on the road and off. Motorhead Garage, presented by Steel Rubber Products,
15:55brought to you by Tribotex. Run longer, stronger, and cleaner with nanotech. Truck claws, unstuck,
16:05unmatched, unbeatable. And by AP Laser, leading the way. Now, of course, if you're an off-roader,
16:13you're going to love this segment because, as you know, you've got to bring a lot of gear with you,
16:17and it's real easy to run out of room in a hurry. So, Matt, at Blue Ridge Overland here,
16:22you have solutions for us that are going to save us space and give us space we didn't even dream
16:26of before. How do you do it? I mean, the big thing is sort of attacking the unused space in
16:30the vehicle and the space that you don't necessarily even think about being a possibility. You know,
16:35like attics for a Jeep or Land Cruiser, stuff like that, using the back of the seat for storage,
16:39using the headrest for storage, using the visor for storage. Sections underneath the seat fit
16:43things really handily. So, we make a bunch of solutions that kind of fit those little niche
16:47places within a vehicle. I think it's important to say that you guys are the experts. You've been
16:51been overlanding. You've been off-roading for a long, long time. So, this has kind of evolved.
16:56I mean, we kind of started out making seat panels and then be out with the wife and kids
17:00who would be in the woods and come back and be like, oh my gosh, my jackets are everywhere on
17:03the floor and the kids are stepping on them. They need a place for that, right? So, then the attic kind
17:06of was born. So, we started building attics for the vehicles we had. So, when we get in and out,
17:11we could kind of stuff stuff up in there, keep it out of the way. It could be dry, wet,
17:15not getting stepped on. It just gave us a handy place to kind of store all that stuff. And it
17:19was like, kind of led to first aid stuff where it was like, I really want safety stuff within
17:23arm reach of the driver or arm reach of the passenger. And where do you put that? So,
17:27like let's say, we kind of landed on a headrest where we can have kind of basic first aid stuff
17:31right there. We can grab it if you're going to go hiking, peel it off the seat, walk away with it.
17:35Or if you need something out of there, you can get to it. Just using those kind of unused spaces is
17:39really what we've kind of done. And as we've evolved, we've just kind of added places and added ways to
17:44store stuff and added ways to organize things and stuff like that. Let's talk about how the
17:47system works here. This is one of your seat back panels? Yeah. So, this clips at the base of the
17:51headrest. This straps wraps around the bottom of the seat so that it actually goes into the crease
17:55of the seat where you don't even notice it when you're sitting in it. So, the way that it works
17:58when you're sitting in it, this strap that comes around the front, you don't even feel it because
18:02it actually tucks into the seam there. And basically, the way the panel works is we use the Molly
18:06Palace platform, which is basically what the military uses, right? The military has used this system for a long
18:11time to attach pouches. So, we make a bunch of pouches for it. There's a bazillion pouches
18:15that fit this platform on the planet. And then you'll see Velcro, Molly, and then you'll see this
18:20daisy chain piece here. So, you can run Velcro pouches on it. You can run, like I said, Molly
18:25compatible pouches. And then you can clip stuff through the daisy chain. So, there's different
18:29pouches depending on if it's permanently going to be mounted like a fire extinguisher, which is going to
18:32live here most of the time. It's actually Molly to the seat. If it's a first aid kit and I want to be
18:37able to peel it off, it's going to be Velcro. So, I can take it on and off really quick. If it's
18:41something I'm going to use part of the time, but it's going to be most of the time, I'll actually
18:45clip into the daisy chain here so we can unclip it. It's fairly secure to the back of the seat,
18:48but I can get to it and take it on and off easily. And then each piece has that with it,
18:53and it all runs the same. So, the width of this set of daisy chains is the same as this. So, if you have
18:57a pouch that's built for a tool bag, it also clips to your seat panel. It also clips to an Inertools bag.
19:03And the same thing, like if you've got a first aid kit that's Velcro to the headrest, it'll Velcro to
19:08the outside of this, it'll Velcro to the outside of this. Each piece becomes interchangeable and sort
19:12of develops into an ecosystem where as your off-roading stuff kind of evolves, the system
19:18evolves with you and you're not out the piece of gear or you don't have to go buy a complete new
19:21piece of gear. You can go buy a single pouch to add to the system. And you don't have to make a huge
19:26decision each time. Do I go with this item or that item? This all works in concert and it's ever-changing.
19:32You're right. Everything works together. The thing I really like too is, you know,
19:35during the week you can keep this on your seat back in your everyday vehicle, but if you need
19:39to switch vehicles, it's as simple as unclipping it and reclipping it and then away you go.
19:43And that's part of what we started. Like, we used to trailer a Jeep a lot to the woods, right? So,
19:47this would be in the tow vehicle, clip to the back seats. Kids would have their stuff in it,
19:51and they'd be playing or doing whatever they had. And that's kind of the space they had to keep
19:55whatever was going to entertain them for the drive. And when we got done, we just unclip two things,
20:00clip it in the back of the Jeep, and then they kind of had all their regular gear that they were
20:03sort of used to having and doing stuff with. And it just was able to go vehicle to vehicle.
20:07And same thing, if you sell a vehicle, you move on, this moves with it. It's not just Jeep specific,
20:11or it's not just, you know, truck specific, Dodge truck specific, whatever it is. It gives you the
20:16ability to kind of move that stuff around vehicle to vehicle within the group you have. Or as you get
20:21new stuff, it's modular and it just moves to the next vehicle.
20:24BlueRidgeOverlandGear.com is the place to go to get a system that's going to work in your vehicle.
20:29It's going to work in every vehicle. So versatile, it can change and you can keep it forever. Check
20:34them out once again at BlueRidgeOverlandGear.com. That's going to do it for this episode of Motorhead
20:40Garage presented by Steel Rubber Products. So long.
