00:00:00Good evening, it seems we're right in the thick of the banishing season. 14 Premier League teams
00:00:26in action for you tonight on Match of the Day with me at the round table, trying not to murder the
00:00:31analysis, our most loyal faithful, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards. No wins in seven for Ange
00:00:38Postacoglu since taking over at Nottingham Forest, who've only won once against the visitors Chelsea
00:00:43in their last eight Premier League meetings. Commentary comes from Simon Brotherton.
00:00:48Turbulent times by the Trent, Forest without a win since opening day and with a new manager
00:00:53feeling the heat just under six weeks after taking over. Taiwo Awonyi makes his first appearance
00:01:00since seriously injuring himself, colliding with a goalpost here against Leicester in May.
00:01:05He's in up front with Chris Wood and Igor Jesus on the bench. In all, Ange Postacoglu makes five
00:01:12changes as he looks for a winning formula. Rhys James makes his 200th appearance for Chelsea.
00:01:17Trevor Chalabar is back from suspension. Andre Santos and Romeo Lavia also start. Enzo Fernandes
00:01:24is injured. Moises Caicedo on the bench. And prior to kick-off, the players take an E, reiterating
00:01:32the message there should be no room for racism or prejudice of any sort in football or anywhere
00:01:39else. Chelsea looking to win here at the City ground for the third season in a row. This
00:01:47is where they secured Champions League qualification at the back end of last season but it's been
00:01:52given away by Malo Gusto and Awonyi. As a first sighting of goal on his return to action for
00:01:59the first time since the end of last season. Chelsea causing problems for themselves here.
00:02:06Ange Postacoglu, the eighth permanent manager under Evangelos Maranakis.
00:02:14It's a pull from Chalabar. Awonyi. Now Gibbs-White. Bursting clear of Lavia. Nicely done.
00:02:23Elliot Anderson. Forrest threatening for a moment here. And it all came from that poor pass
00:02:29as Chelsea conceded possession. The little check back and the stumble.
00:02:35Well Enzo Mareska forced to take a seat in the stand today following his red card against
00:02:42over full two yellows. The second of which you may remember his exuberant celebration on
00:02:46the touchline. Got away from Romeo-Lavia. Here's Borg and Gibbs-White. And it's wide. And it's
00:02:57at least the third time if not more that Chelsea have given the ball away inside their own half
00:03:02of the field. And Gibbs-White unable to hit the target. An unexpected opportunity. Spurned.
00:03:15The bounce beats Ajunpong. Awonyi's there. It's Douglas-Louise. Gibbs-White. Forreston
00:03:23knocking on the door. Gibbs-White was really stretching to try and get there. And there's
00:03:34the thoughtful face of the Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Maranakis. Penny for his thoughts.
00:03:40Here's Jean-Pedro. Lovely little bit of skill in towards Andre Santos who is sending it
00:03:52just wide. Chelsea suddenly creating something out of seemingly nothing. And Forrest survive.
00:04:05Two Brazilian strikers going at it. And Jean-Pedro going to ground. And Chelsea with a free kick.
00:04:17Early second-half pressure here from Chelsea. Grace James whips it in.
00:04:24Lever away by Gibbs-White collected by Malagusto.
00:04:30Neto is going to have a run at Nico Williams here. And it was worth it. Ajunpong. One-nil Chelsea.
00:04:37Unmarked. Clear header. Great chance. Fine goal.
00:04:43Josh Ajunpong scores his first goal for the club. What a moment for the 19-year-old.
00:04:51Well Chelsea made three changes at the break. They've been brighter already in the opening exchanges
00:04:56of the second period. And here Ajunpong. Right place. Right time. The cross was delightful
00:05:04from Pedro Neto. Right on his head. It's Nottingham Forest. Nil. Chelsea one.
00:05:11And here comes Chelsea again with Gusto into João Pedro. Up to Marc Guil. They get a free kick
00:05:21as well for that one on the edge of the box. Dangerous times here for Forrest. And it's a foul
00:05:28from Morato who has already gone in the referee's book in the first half.
00:05:35Sells! Sells! Sells! Sells! Sells! Sells! Sells on the balls of his feet. Oh! And it's two!
00:05:45And in the blink of an eye. Chelsea open up. Real daylight. Pedro Neto.
00:05:52And it's all unravelled for Nottingham Forest in the opening six minutes of the second half.
00:05:58Pedro Neto scores in front of the travelling fans. Forrest a shell-shot.
00:06:04There. Through the hole in the wall. Big gap. And it's a big goal. First cries of sacked in the morning
00:06:14heading towards the touchline. Coming from the Chelsea fans. Here's Milenkovic. He was caught by Malagusto.
00:06:23by Malagusto. He'll get a card. It's actually a boot there from Malagusto.
00:06:37Sangare losing out to João Pedro. Chelsea threatening again. João Pedro close.
00:06:46As Chelsea seek to put this game way beyond reach.
00:06:51Forrest just looking for a spark to bring them back in the game.
00:06:54Anderson across. Williams going for it.
00:06:57And really good defensive work in support of his colleagues there from Jamie Gittins.
00:07:11Zinchenko across. Oh! What a chance that was for Williams.
00:07:16Big moment there. Forrest.
00:07:19And he really needed that to go in.
00:07:23Milenkovic.
00:07:25Here's Williams.
00:07:27They're way past Kukureya. Corner.
00:07:30By the head of Milenkovic. Saved by Sanchez.
00:07:42Forrest threatening here.
00:07:46And Sanchez able to flick it over with his fingertips.
00:07:51Well, Evangelos Maranakis hasn't been in his seat for over five minutes now.
00:07:59Has he seen enough?
00:08:01One back by Murillo Sangare.
00:08:08He's Anderson.
00:08:09Now Hudson-Odoi.
00:08:10Hudson-Odoi.
00:08:11Hudson-Odoi.
00:08:12Igo Jesus!
00:08:13How did that not go in?
00:08:14An extraordinary moment.
00:08:15The delivery from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
00:08:18And the effort from Igo Jesus.
00:08:20Igo Jesus.
00:08:21How did that not go in?
00:08:22How did that not go in?
00:08:24Or an extraordinary moment.
00:08:26Meu Jesus.
00:08:27And Shaw!
00:08:28Go!
00:08:29And the effort from Igo Jesus.
00:08:30Hitting the crossbar and the post.
00:08:39Rhys James, Guyu, Anderson challenged by Kukurea, here's Esteval, corner, tell you what, it wasn't that far away from 3-0,
00:08:58Esteval to take it, right down to the goalkeepers, no, it's 3-0 Rhys James,
00:09:05marks his 200th appearance for Chelsea, with a goal that seals the deal at the city ground,
00:09:143 goals for Chelsea, 3 points, Ange Postacoglu and Nottingham Forest empty-handed again,
00:09:22and thousands of people immediately make for the exits.
00:09:26It was a terrific looking corner from Esteval, punched away by Sells, it was a lovely finish from Rhys James,
00:09:43Jean-Pedro forward looking for Esteval, and it's collected by Sells.
00:09:47And a foul there on Nico Williams by Marlo Gusto, and he's already been booked earlier in the match,
00:09:58so that means that Chelsea will finish the game with 10, he knew it straight away, Marlo Gusto sent off for Chelsea.
00:10:05That should do it.
00:10:14The mood darkens, the boos grow louder in Nottingham, it's an excellent away win for Chelsea,
00:10:21but for Ange Postacoglu, things don't look great, less than six weeks after taking the job.
00:10:29And 21 minutes later, a 39-day tenure was ended with a 39-word statement from the club.
00:10:38Big Ange was gone.
00:10:4139 days is not very long, you must have hardly got to know Ange Postacoglu, really.
00:10:47No, not really, but that's the nature of football.
00:10:50Results haven't been good enough, us as players have to take massive responsibility,
00:10:55and collectively as a group, we need to do more.
00:11:00We have to look at ourselves in the mirror, we have to get on the training pitch,
00:11:04we have to look for them.
00:11:05Then 1%, it's fine margins, and we need to give absolutely everything we owe it to the fans
00:11:09to put in a really good performance on Thursday.
00:11:11It's a tough game, isn't it, at the top level.
00:11:14An excellent result for you, but today the Forest manager has lost his job.
00:11:18Yeah, they just said me.
00:11:23Unfortunately, it's our job.
00:11:24It's business, where you need to win games, in case you don't win games.
00:11:28The consequence is, for all of us, exactly the same.
00:11:33So, Ange Postacoglu, 39 days, puts him second officially on the shortest managerial reigns
00:11:38in Premier League history, but Sam Allardyce, if you remember,
00:11:40was brought in to manage Leeds to the end of the season.
00:11:43So if you're looking at a permanent appointment,
00:11:45you could argue that it is the shortest of all time.
00:11:47Michael, was it inevitable today?
00:11:49Yeah, I think it was, in terms of the owner and his standards for the club.
00:11:54Remember last season, he thought he was going to get Champions League,
00:11:56didn't work out, they got into Europe, wasn't good enough.
00:12:00Obviously, Nuno gets sacked after that.
00:12:03But in terms of football, five games, 39 days in the Premier League,
00:12:09and he's getting sacked.
00:12:11It's just ridiculous to me.
00:12:13I don't know where we're going as football.
00:12:15I understand the results have not been great.
00:12:18But in terms of a manager trying to get his philosophy over,
00:12:22we knew with Nuno there was a defensive-style team.
00:12:25Now we know Ange likes to put on the front foot.
00:12:27And we always talk about giving managers time to put their input on what the team wants to do.
00:12:33And for him to get five games in the Premier League, for me, I just...
00:12:37With an international break in the middle of all of that, in terms of getting to know your players,
00:12:40do you have some sympathy for him?
00:12:41Yeah, absolutely.
00:12:42You do have sympathy for him, yeah.
00:12:43I mean, the owner has to accept his share of the blame.
00:12:46He went out and chose this particular manager,
00:12:49knowing that he had a completely different system to what the previous manager had got.
00:12:54But five Premier League games, you absolutely have sympathy for him.
00:12:58But the names...
00:13:00Mareska said it, didn't he?
00:13:01You know the rules in football.
00:13:02If you don't get results immediately, unfortunately, you're going to lose your job.
00:13:06And the names in the frame, Sean Dyche, Mancini, Rafa Benitez...
00:13:12You know, some people might say,
00:13:14well, why would you want to go there and work under that regime?
00:13:16It's so uncertain.
00:13:17The queue will be a mile long.
00:13:19It's a huge football club.
00:13:20There's only 20 jobs available in the Premier League.
00:13:23Everyone wants to come in the Premier League.
00:13:25And I'm pretty sure the owner already would have spoken to at least five or six of those big names.
00:13:31OK, well, let's talk about what happened in the match.
00:13:33Because in the first half, actually, Forrest had quite a few good chances.
00:13:36And it took Mareska to make some changes for Chelsea to get to Forrest.
00:13:39Yeah, it didn't work for them at all.
00:13:41I mean, Forrest had some really, really good chances.
00:13:43Didn't take them.
00:13:43We're all sat thinking.
00:13:44We all know what's going to happen.
00:13:45And particularly in forward positions, it didn't work for Chelsea.
00:13:48Got Santos and Pedro there.
00:13:50Pedro was the nine.
00:13:52But on these occasions, he actually came short into those positions.
00:13:57And the only time it worked was the last minute of the first half.
00:14:01Didn't work here at all.
00:14:02They weren't linking up well at all.
00:14:05And the managers obviously look and think, I'm going to change it.
00:14:07This is the one occasion in the first half it did.
00:14:10Pedro goes short.
00:14:11Santos goes in behind.
00:14:13That was their best chance.
00:14:15Probably their only chance in the first half.
00:14:17And he thought, you know what?
00:14:18It's not working.
00:14:18I've got to change it.
00:14:19So not only did he bring Gittins and Caicedo on, so it had a bit of solidity in, particularly in the midfield.
00:14:25He brought Guiu on.
00:14:27And you can see the difference now there.
00:14:28Pedro's now playing predominantly in the 10-10 role.
00:14:32Guiu's in the centre-four and he's running in behind.
00:14:34And all of a sudden, it changes.
00:14:36They're now playing on the front foot.
00:14:38They're now getting chances in the final third.
00:14:40That turns into a free kick, which they then get the, it turns out, they get the goal from it.
00:14:46Similar thing again.
00:14:46Look, Guiu's coming short for that ball.
00:14:48But he's actually asking the question in behind.
00:14:50It's such a clever run.
00:14:52He doesn't get it the first time.
00:14:54But you can see, again, look at the way he ends up.
00:14:56Again, making it difficult for the Forrester fence.
00:15:00And they're having to think again all the same.
00:15:01Now, just watch this, how it works.
00:15:03You can see Pedro knows exactly where he is.
00:15:06OK, he chooses not to play him on that occasion.
00:15:08But he then gets the ball back.
00:15:10And again, that's a clever ball and a pass.
00:15:12They work it well.
00:15:13They get the free kick.
00:15:14And they score again from the free kick.
00:15:16It's well worked from James and from Neto.
00:15:19But Chelsea, I think, were without doubt much, much better for those changes at half-time.
00:15:24More on the front foot.
00:15:25And created certainly more chances.
00:15:27And as we've spoken about, we know what happened after that.
00:15:29Yeah.
00:15:30And they did have chances in the first half.
00:15:32And obviously, Maranakis had seen exactly everything he wanted to see there.
00:15:35I think Yates says it in his interview.
00:15:37I think it's a collective for Forrest.
00:15:39And they did have a lot of chances in that first half.
00:15:42And that was a difference in the end.
00:15:44It was quality.
00:15:45And the result now doesn't look great for Forrest.
00:15:47But if you actually watched the game, if they would have took a few of those chances,
00:15:51it could have been a different house.
00:15:52And so many new players brought in over the summer, obviously.
00:15:55And then Nuno leaves.
00:15:57And then, obviously, as you said, there's not very much time for Ange.
00:15:59And then a new manager's going to come in and have to work with those players
00:16:02and try and get the team to be cohesive.
00:16:05It feels, doesn't it, almost counterproductive.
00:16:08Especially when it's a different style.
00:16:09We know that it's a completely different style to what Nuno had.
00:16:13Now, I know the results at the end of last season didn't go as well as they wanted.
00:16:18But it's a completely different style.
00:16:20A lot of those players were brought in for that particular system
00:16:24and worked and loved that system.
00:16:26It was always going to take time to change.
00:16:28But we know you haven't got that.
00:16:30But still, five games is crazy.
00:16:32And it moves fast, doesn't it?
00:16:33Who knows what the next 24 hours is going to bring there.
00:16:35OK, well, both meetings between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth
00:16:38finished goalless last season.
00:16:40Fingers crossed, everyone.
00:16:41Your commentator is Robin Cowan.
00:16:45Recent meetings might not have lived long in the memory between these two,
00:16:49but they're both on course for unforgettable seasons.
00:16:52Palace's club record 19-match unbeaten run was ended by Everton
00:16:56before the international break.
00:16:57But Oliver Glasner goes with the same team that lost on Merseyside.
00:17:01Jean-Philippe Peteta scored on his full international debut for France over the break,
00:17:06proving the doubters, including, allegedly,
00:17:08a few of his former teammates wrong.
00:17:10Former San Juan Semenyo also had something to celebrate,
00:17:13helping Garner to qualify for the World Cup.
00:17:15He's been involved in nine goals in seven appearances this season for the Cherries.
00:17:19David Brooks and Evan Nielsen are out injured.
00:17:21It's three changes from the victory over Fulham.
00:17:24First Premier League starts for Eli Kruppi and Alex Jimenez.
00:17:27Justin Kluivert also comes in.
00:17:32Performers have won four their last six Premier League games,
00:17:35but it's just two wins in the last nine away from home.
00:17:39Only defeat this season, opening day at Anfield.
00:17:42Kluivert's corner towards the near post.
00:18:00Another chance here, swung up towards the middle,
00:18:03well defended by Gay.
00:18:05Sarr is down for Crystal Palace.
00:18:08Wicked one from Kluivert,
00:18:22and it's out to the back post.
00:18:24Eli Kruppi
00:18:29stung Selhurst Park.
00:18:38Well, Kruppi just had to help her over the line a couple of inches out,
00:18:42but he was totally untracked there
00:18:44on his first start in the Premier League.
00:18:49Just 19 years old.
00:18:50Already his second goal for Bormann.
00:18:56Here's Pino.
00:19:01Metzhetan!
00:19:07He's got to be hitting the target, really.
00:19:09Those opportunities.
00:19:12It's been a good response.
00:19:13Nothing to show for it so far.
00:19:15Semenyo bursting forward.
00:19:22Getting away from Richards.
00:19:25Gay's clearance isn't enough.
00:19:27And it's another for Bournemouth,
00:19:28and it's another for Eli Kruppi.
00:19:33A devastating break.
00:19:38The Semenyo centre wasn't really dealt with by Gay.
00:19:41Could he have turned it behind for a corner?
00:19:44Either way, he's presented it straight to Kruppi,
00:19:46who was in the right place,
00:19:47and showed real composure
00:19:49to slam it past Henderson.
00:19:53Take something special from Palace,
00:19:54or a big collapse from Bournemouth
00:19:57to change the outcome for points.
00:20:01No foul on Scott.
00:20:02Sartre, that will be one.
00:20:08Sinesi, mistimed.
00:20:11Yellow card for Marcos Sinesi.
00:20:15Was it a denial of a goal-scoring opportunity?
00:20:19They are
00:20:20recommending that Jared Gillett goes to the screen.
00:20:25Did catch him
00:20:31with the studs?
00:20:34A nervous wait
00:20:35for Marcos Sinesi.
00:20:40Let's see what Jared Gillett
00:20:41has to say.
00:20:49After a view,
00:20:51the original decision of
00:20:52yellow card to number five stands.
00:20:54The player is moving slightly wide,
00:20:57and there is a covering defender.
00:21:00Well, Jared Gillett
00:21:01is stuck by his decision.
00:21:02We don't see that very often,
00:21:04but happy that
00:21:06it's far enough from goal
00:21:08that that shouldn't warrant
00:21:10a red card.
00:21:18Laquat,
00:21:19Mateta,
00:21:21finds Sartre,
00:21:22Munoz,
00:21:24Mateta.
00:21:27A brilliant goal for Palace.
00:21:32It's been ruled out.
00:21:36There was an offside
00:21:37during this move somewhere.
00:21:41It's not a very long check.
00:21:42And Jean-Felic Mateta
00:21:48has put Palace back in the games.
00:21:53So, this changes the mood
00:21:58somewhat.
00:21:59Holmesdale road end
00:22:03are roaring.
00:22:04coming off,
00:22:23another tremendously worked goal
00:22:25from Palace.
00:22:27He's missed a few today,
00:22:28but he's taken two
00:22:31brilliantly
00:22:32what a week
00:22:35Mormont have been on the back foot
00:22:40ever since they conceded that first goal
00:22:42but
00:22:43promising move forward here
00:22:46Tavenier
00:22:47it's put away by Ryan Christie
00:22:50two minutes of the 90 remaining
00:22:55lovely move down the left
00:23:00Tavenier
00:23:03with the pullback
00:23:06and the fresh legs of Ryan Christie
00:23:09got himself into a
00:23:11perfect position
00:23:13to potentially score the winner here
00:23:20Richards
00:23:21bouncing ball deflected away for a corner
00:23:23here we go
00:23:31it's dropping
00:23:32where is it dropping
00:23:33Richards
00:23:34Lacroix
00:23:35another big deflection
00:23:38another corner

00:24:54what entertainment
00:24:56these two have served up this afternoon
00:24:59I cannot be happy. I'm not pleased. I'm upset. I'm angry, as you want, because the call we were
00:25:06set in the 96th minute. I cannot accept it. I think the VAR has been influenced by the previous
00:25:12decision when he has called the referee. The referee has watched the play, doesn't attend
00:25:16his correction, and then probably the VAR has decided I'm not going to intervene anymore.
00:25:21I didn't think it was going to be quite that eventful, but it was, and yeah, I think in the
00:25:25end, maybe a draw is fair, questionable last penalty call, but that's football at the end
00:25:31of the day, isn't it?
00:25:31I'm so proud of the performance today, and not just the result, but how we played, how
00:25:37many chances we created, and we have also a big credit to Bournemouth. They were so ruthless
00:25:43today. Every chance was a goal, so they had eight finishes overall and three goals, but
00:25:48the mentality of the team, the way we played, the problems we caused, and it's incredible
00:25:54what these players are doing.
00:25:55I want to win every game, and I think I have the ball to win this game, even if I scored
00:26:02a hat-trick. It's up to me to score that goal, and I didn't score, and that's why I'm like
00:26:09that.
00:26:11What a game this was, and we'll get on to Iriola's comments there and the penalties in a minute,
00:26:16but Jean-Philippe Mateta had a fantastic day. You have to go back to 2016 for a player to
00:26:20score a hat-trick in a home game and not get a win. Andy Carroll.
00:26:23Well, first of all, I've got to say, two really excellent sides, and it was a brilliant
00:26:28game, but Mateta, he's just really, really difficult to play against. Defenders, you
00:26:34know, do not enjoy playing against this guy. He's awkward. He's his game as they come.
00:26:40He'll run in behind. I mean, he actually should have had a hat-trick in the first half. Could
00:26:44have had a hat-trick in the first half. That was the most difficult one. Movement is really,
00:26:49really good. That's a fantastic ball in, and he should score again. This is probably the
00:26:53best chance in the first half. Falls to him in a nice position again. Just can't get
00:26:58the connection that he wants. But then all of a sudden, I said about his movement, hold
00:27:03up players, excellent. Bringing people into the game, but his movement to get into the
00:27:08six-yard box after he's played the pass, that's the impressive thing. His movement again, the
00:27:13defender's with him, and then two seconds later, he's not because of, as I said, his movement
00:27:18again, and that's a clever finish. Then he gets his penalty, his hat-trick goal, and
00:27:23you're thinking, he can't, can he? And this was the easiest one of the lot, wasn't it? I
00:27:29mean, he's leaning back, and anyone that understands French can understand what he's about to say.
00:27:34There you go.
00:27:35But you know, you can tell him that. It's not very often you see someone scoring a hat-trick
00:27:40and be so disappointed at the end of the game, but look at those stats on the 11 shots. Shots
00:27:46inside the box, nine. As I said, he's hat-trick, so. But I love the way he plays, because he's
00:27:52a nightmare for defenders.
00:27:53So Bournemouth feel a little bit hard done by that they ended up not getting all three points,
00:27:57and Iriola's point was that the referee perhaps wasn't going to be called over to go and have
00:28:02a little look at the screen, because he'd been called over earlier and not changed his
00:28:06on-field decision.
00:28:07No, I don't. I think he's clutching there, to be honest. But in terms of the penalty,
00:28:14I think it's actually quite harsh. I think Diakete there on Gaye. The only problem, he's not
00:28:20looking at the ball, and the referee had warned him beforehand, so he was going to give the
00:28:25penalty in this moment. But I still think it's a little bit harsh, because they're both going
00:28:31back and forth with each other. I think you need to see the consistency also. I get why
00:28:36he's given that, but let's hope that another referee would do the same next weekend.
00:28:40What about 19-year-old Kruppi getting two on his first start?
00:28:43First start as well, two goals, yeah. Very, very good.
00:28:46And it's that recruitment that Bournemouth obviously have to be so good at, don't they?
00:28:50Well, we spoke about the defensive situation that they've done so well in recruiting the
00:28:54players. He's got a forward there on his first start. He's got a couple of goals.
00:28:579th and 12th, the finishes that he's had so far, Iriola, as Bournemouth manager. Where
00:29:02can they realistically push on to?
00:29:04It depends who they keep. I think Alan's exactly right. The recruitment's been excellent.
00:29:11I think when we talk about Brighton and what they have done, Iriola and the people down there
00:29:17have done a brilliant job. I think for him, when he first came to the club, I was thinking,
00:29:23what is he trying to do? And when he first came to the club, he was pushing really high
00:29:27and some of the results wasn't going their way. But the way he's managed to lose players,
00:29:31get players in and still buy into the system what they're doing and do it with effect,
00:29:35he's just a top coach. He really is.
00:29:38And the players that they lose, they go to Paris Saint-Germain, they go to Liverpool.
00:29:42They're selling for big money to big clubs, big moves as well. So as a player, it would be
00:29:47quite an attractive place to go.
00:29:48And I also think when you're looking at the players, what he does, I think, really well
00:29:53is gives his players the freedom to go and play. Just go and express yourselves and you
00:29:57can see they're enjoying the football.
00:29:58OK. Well, in form, Manchester City faced Everton with an excellent record in this fixture.
00:30:04The Toffees' last league win at City came 15 years ago during David Moyes' first spell
00:30:09in charge. Steve Bauer, watch this one.
00:30:13Manchester City back at the Etihad where they've won seven of their last eight Premier League
00:30:18games, but they must do without the injured Rodri today. So Nico Gonzalez starts. There
00:30:23are also recalls for Doku and Ake and Marmouche returns as a substitute. Everton are unable
00:30:30to play on loan Jack Grealish against his parent club, but they are able to welcome back Kiernan
00:30:35Dewsbury Hall after suspension. Beto has preferred to Barry up front, Alcaraz preferred to Dibbling
00:30:41and Keane is fit to start.
00:30:46Everton, to say they are due a win against Manchester City. There's something of an understatement.
00:30:52One victory in 24 Premier League meetings.
00:30:57What a little loose from Ake. And Njai's on to it. Beto trying to get into the penalty area.
00:31:02There he is! And he's wondering just how he didn't make the all-important contact.
00:31:09Excellent try from Njai. And subsequent ball. Oh, that's how close Beto was.
00:31:22That's the Garner there on Haaland.
00:31:27City keen to keep things moving. Nunes.
00:31:29Savinio.
00:31:34Really nicely tied ball into Savinio. Almost had too much time to think about it.
00:31:42Have a landmark today. His 350th Premier League game as a manager.
00:31:49Not done too badly in the previous 349, has he?
00:31:53Again, Savinio. That time Nikolenko got his foot in.
00:31:58And City have their second corner of the game.
00:32:03They have yet to score from a corner in the Premier League this season.
00:32:07Everton will hope that continues here.
00:32:09Oh, it nearly didn't!
00:32:10Well, Pickford didn't move here.
00:32:14So congested.
00:32:16It would have been an own goal.
00:32:18Off Jake O'Brien.
00:32:21And Njai for Everton.
00:32:22And they're trying to get numbers forward.
00:32:24Alcaraz is bursting down the left-hand side.
00:32:27Here comes Adrissa Gaye.
00:32:30He's trying to pick out Alcaraz.
00:32:31Fantastic defending from Reinders.
00:32:36Here's Njai.
00:32:37Such a box of tricks.
00:32:39Illion Njai!
00:32:40Turned over by Donnarumma.
00:32:43With his first save of the game.
00:32:45But in those moments, Everton have looked a threat on the break.
00:32:50Top scorer Njai has been at the heart of most of it.
00:32:52Organo is looking for the run of Dewsbury Hall.
00:33:02Haaland with the block.
00:33:03And Haaland's now on the charge here for Manchester City.
00:33:06Reinders.
00:33:07Doku!
00:33:08Denied by Pickford.
00:33:11And cleared by Mikhilenko.
00:33:13And in the blink of an eye,
00:33:15from that, with Everton in possession on halfway,
00:33:19Manchester City
00:33:20sends something.
00:33:21And in the end,
00:33:23it was straight at Jordan Pickford.
00:33:28Ake.
00:33:37Reinders to pick out Savinho.
00:33:40Who's around Mikhilenko.
00:33:42It's Savinho!
00:33:44And Jordan Pickford to the rescue again.
00:33:46And it's virtually the last kick of this first half.
00:33:49It's been a fascinating battle, this.
00:33:52The Brazilian against the Ukrainian.
00:33:53The Brazilian won this one.
00:33:55And he caught that much better.
00:33:56Oh, that's a nicely weighted ball.
00:34:08O'Reilly in.
00:34:09There he is!
00:34:11We've hardly mentioned his name,
00:34:13but the main man steps forward again.
00:34:16Erling Haaland into double Premier League figures already for the season.
00:34:23Forget touches of the ball.
00:34:25Forget goal involvements.
00:34:27This is what he's all about.
00:34:28And from the moment O'Reilly was looking to cross that,
00:34:33he was on the move.
00:34:34There's the look from O'Reilly.
00:34:36Lovely delivery.
00:34:36And the end result was never, ever in doubt.
00:34:42Deadlock broken.
00:34:43And no surprise.
00:34:45With the name on the score sheet.
00:34:50And incidentally, that's the third time
00:34:52that Haaland has been into double figures
00:34:55in the first eight league games of the season.
00:34:57And it's no surprise nobody else has managed that.
00:34:59Oscar Bob.
00:35:06Lovely turn from Foden.
00:35:09He's picked out Savino.
00:35:12Haaland wants it pulled back.
00:35:14And Haaland makes it two.
00:35:19Erling Haaland at the double.
00:35:22Two in five second half minutes.
00:35:25Have a completely different complexion on this game.
00:35:29Talk of Erling enjoying his football.
00:35:33What a spell he's enjoying.
00:35:36Demanded it here.
00:35:37Pulled away.
00:35:39I think that went through the legs of Tarkovsky.
00:35:42Which deceived Pickford.
00:35:44Two for Haaland.
00:35:45And two for Manchester City.
00:35:54Foden.
00:35:55He's looking for Haaland.
00:35:56Now then, here's the hat-trick opportunity.
00:36:00Undenied by Pickford.
00:36:02He's on it again.
00:36:04That time blocked and followed in and wide.
00:36:08From Cherky.
00:36:10But for all the delight of the two goals.
00:36:14That will eat away at him.
00:36:16On the verge of a 28 career hat-trick.
00:36:18And the majority of the Eti had expected him here to complete it.
00:36:23Pickford's left hand first.
00:36:26And then Tarkovsky's block.
00:36:27Dibbling on Cherky.
00:36:36Silly yellow card for Tyler Dibbling.
00:36:38Here goes Haaland.
00:36:46Is it this time?
00:36:47No!
00:36:48Denied by Pickford again.
00:36:50Oscar Bob's picked it up.
00:36:53Haaland again.
00:36:58He slams the turf in sheer frustration.
00:37:01Brilliant movement.
00:37:06Really well found.
00:37:09Leg to pick for this time.
00:37:13The United in the match ball.
00:37:15This one wouldn't quite come down for him.
00:37:17A lot of work.
00:37:19They were not easy at all.
00:37:21And the first half more troubled.
00:37:25We couldn't really settle our game.
00:37:27And a completely different second half.
00:37:29And three points.
00:37:31When you've got Erling in the form that he's in.
00:37:33What a five minutes again for him to turn the game around.
00:37:37We cannot rely on completely the team and him.
00:37:40So we need other players.
00:37:42Swingers, tacky midfielders.
00:37:45And other ones we need.
00:37:47We need to.
00:37:48They have to make a step up to score goals.
00:37:51Of course we play to provide Erling.
00:37:54The quality they have.
00:37:55The passes and score goals.
00:37:58But other players have to do it again.
00:38:00The job against a lot of the better teams than us.
00:38:03Is to make sure we challenge them.
00:38:04When we put in a performance.
00:38:05And for long periods of the game we did.
00:38:07So we move on.
00:38:09I'm disappointed with the result.
00:38:10Not with how the players perform today.
00:38:13Well because he was the outstanding player today.
00:38:16I think we should have a little bit of time.
00:38:18To really kind of wax lyrical about Erling Haaland.
00:38:20And have a look at that.
00:38:21That's the quickest players to reach 10 Premier League goals.
00:38:25And Erling Haaland occupies the top three places.
00:38:27There is of course a Newcastle United legend on there.
00:38:30But it's not you.
00:38:31It's Les.
00:38:31It's Les Ferdinand.
00:38:33What happened Alan?
00:38:33Did you see a striker?
00:38:35Yeah.
00:38:36I remember when one goal every game was alright.
00:38:39Yeah you took 10.
00:38:40Was it?
00:38:40Yeah.
00:38:40He took 10 games.
00:38:4192, 93.
00:38:43Yeah.
00:38:43Not good enough.
00:38:44He was today at his unplayable best at times wasn't he?
00:38:47Yeah I mean.
00:38:48It seems quite ridiculous.
00:38:49Me doing an analysis piece on a striker.
00:38:51We've got Alan Shearer.
00:38:53Record Premier League goalscorer.
00:38:55But I want to talk about from a defensive point of view.
00:38:58And what Everton did.
00:38:59So as we roll it on here.
00:39:03It's really interesting with Haaland's movement.
00:39:06They always talk about he doesn't have many touches.
00:39:09But it's his smart movement.
00:39:11And Keem there can see him.
00:39:13It's absolutely perfect.
00:39:15And as we roll it on now.
00:39:18Haaland can see the back of his shirt.
00:39:21So can we just hold it there for a moment.
00:39:23We're always taught as a defender.
00:39:25Now to defend the space.
00:39:27So he has to run back as quick as possible.
00:39:29The two centre half into that space.
00:39:32And Haaland knows he can outrun him.
00:39:34But what he decides to do.
00:39:36As we roll it on here now.
00:39:38Is just check his run.
00:39:41And that is IQ.
00:39:43And it's unbelievable.
00:39:44Game football intelligence.
00:39:46Again here.
00:39:48Absolutely outstanding.
00:39:50Just gets in these brilliant positions.
00:39:53Where he just holds his run.
00:39:56Perfect.
00:39:56Now if we hold it here.
00:39:58Okay.
00:39:58As the ball for Man City goes out wide.
00:40:01As the centre half.
00:40:02You have to protect the near post.
00:40:05So as we run it on slowly here.
00:40:08Tarkovsky is in two minds.
00:40:11Whether to drop back.
00:40:12Or to go to the danger.
00:40:14Which is Haaland.
00:40:15And it's too late for Pickford.
00:40:17He sees it.
00:40:18But the next clip.
00:40:19Is my absolute favourite.
00:40:21We'll just stop it here for a moment.
00:40:25Keane there in his perfect position.
00:40:27You see Foden on the ball there.
00:40:29So when Foden's on the ball now.
00:40:31How you learnt to defend.
00:40:33If he's got time and space.
00:40:35You have dropped off.
00:40:36He's dropped off.
00:40:37He's given himself five yards.
00:40:38We roll on the ball.
00:40:40We roll it on now.
00:40:41As he plays that pass.
00:40:43Haaland still.
00:40:45Gets it.
00:40:45And that's what we talk about.
00:40:47Unplayable.
00:40:48Defenders are doing the right things.
00:40:51But they still can't defend him.
00:40:53When he's in this form.
00:40:54He really is unstoppable.
00:40:57And his goal record this season.
00:40:59What's he got?
00:41:0023 goals in 13 games for club and country.
00:41:02It's just phenomenal.
00:41:04Yeah.
00:41:04Let's have a look at where that puts him.
00:41:06In kind of Europe's elite.
00:41:07If you like.
00:41:08And again.
00:41:09Harry Kane was scoring tonight.
00:41:11For Bayern Munich.
00:41:12But look.
00:41:12This is club and country.
00:41:14And his rate of scoring is the best in Europe this season.
00:41:18He's got everything on him.
00:41:19Yeah.
00:41:20I mean.
00:41:20You're talking about three amazing players there.
00:41:22But for me.
00:41:22If you're building from scratch.
00:41:25What you want as the ideal centre forward.
00:41:29Look at Haaland.
00:41:30He's got obviously the goals.
00:41:33Pace.
00:41:33Movement.
00:41:34Strength.
00:41:35Good in the air.
00:41:36He doesn't mind being roughed up.
00:41:38It doesn't bother him if he doesn't have five or six touches within a minute.
00:41:42Or he has one touch per half.
00:41:44So long as that touch is a goal.
00:41:46There's not many players like that.
00:41:48So for me.
00:41:49He's almost perfect.
00:41:51He really is.
00:41:53He's a fantastic talent.
00:41:55I love watching him.
00:41:56And we're lucky to have him in our league.
00:41:59And obviously Man City have got an incredible player on their hands.
00:42:02And they needed him today.
00:42:03Because the first half there wasn't much there was there?
00:42:05Yeah.
00:42:06I think Everton had some really good chances with Beto.
00:42:08But in the end the quality shone through.
00:42:11Okay.
00:42:11Thank you very much.
00:42:13Well.
00:42:13Premier League leaders.
00:42:14Arsenal travel to Fulham.
00:42:15Looking to make it five wins in a row in all competitions.
00:42:18Jonathan Pearce was at Craven Cottage.
00:42:20Arsenal are now odds-on to land their first title since 2004.
00:42:26The Cottagers look to go four home league games unbeaten at the start of a season for the first time since 2011.
00:42:32With three changes.
00:42:33Kearney gets a first league start this season for the injured Lukic.
00:42:37Cuenca a first premier start since the opening day for Bassi.
00:42:40Who's only on the bench after international duty.
00:42:42And Jimenez is fit to return after a groin problem.
00:42:44Diop drops out.
00:42:46Arsenal just one defeat in their last 14 against Fulham.
00:42:48And to a favourable run of fixtures.
00:42:50Looking to cement top spot.
00:42:52With one in fours changed with a win over West Ham.
00:42:54Zubimendi for the injured Odegaard.
00:42:56Just three goals conceded in ten games in all.
00:42:58It's their best ever defensive start.
00:43:02They went into this.
00:43:03They lost their previous two.
00:43:05They lost three league games in a row in December 23.
00:43:08But at home they're a different proposition.
00:43:13Easy minute.
00:43:13And Berger to Wilson.
00:43:20And to plant it.
00:43:23Really decent start here by Fulham.
00:43:26They are causing this morning's league leaders problems.
00:43:29End of his body to try and bend it in.
00:43:32To add to the goal he scored against Brentford back in September.
00:43:35But all a little bit slow from Arsenal in possession.
00:43:41Not a lot of movement up front.
00:43:42Calafiori's now made a dash into the middle.
00:43:45He's found by Trasada.
00:43:46Scores.
00:43:47Could have been out of the car.
00:43:49But there's a flag up.
00:43:50And it won't count.
00:43:52That's a real moment of invention from Arsenal in the game.
00:43:56Calafiori breaking lines with his run.
00:43:58Lovely finish mind you.
00:44:00But it won't count.
00:44:07He's as it.
00:44:08Again dwelt on it too long.
00:44:11And King will race away for Fulham.
00:44:13Chased by Zubomendi.
00:44:15He leaves him to Gabriel.
00:44:19Still King.
00:44:21Oh deceptive right I have to say.
00:44:23He didn't mean it.
00:44:24He's looking for a Wobie in the middle.
00:44:26He's had a look.
00:44:28Maybe he didn't mean it.
00:44:30He'll say he did.
00:44:32Timber has Saka down the line.
00:44:34That's him making a run as well.
00:44:36Just inside him.
00:44:37And again good work by Fulham here.
00:44:39Now there's a gap.
00:44:39Saka onto Jokeres.
00:44:41Is he onside?
00:44:42Carried by Leino.
00:44:43Trasada leaps with a loose ball.
00:44:46And connected by the keeper.
00:44:47Second time.
00:44:48Lopros played on by Castagne.
00:44:51Fizzed the shot.
00:44:51And Leino got down to it well.
00:44:54That's the best we've seen from Arsenal.
00:44:56Big Jagger.
00:44:58Watching on.
00:45:05Arsenal finishing the first half strongly.
00:45:10Saka to take on Sessignor.
00:45:12Oh that's dangerous.
00:45:13The cross in comes out of Calafiore.
00:45:15Could hit.
00:45:16Couldn't keep it down.
00:45:18Get it full flat on the left foot volley.
00:45:21Arsenal beginning to create.
00:45:23Timber looks for Saka.
00:45:29To take on Sessignor.
00:45:31And he's got away from him here.
00:45:33Saka.
00:45:33Still going.
00:45:34Pokes it square.
00:45:35It's come off the defender.
00:45:36And in the end just about cleared away by Castagne.
00:45:40Determined run by Bakayo Saka.
00:45:42The Arsenal captain.
00:45:43Picked it up there.
00:45:44Got away from Sessignor.
00:45:46Stayed on his feet.
00:45:47That's a heavy touch.
00:45:48But he was too strong in that challenge.
00:45:52Game that Arsenal would have expected to win.
00:45:55Berger.
00:45:58And King has wrestled it the way of Fulham.
00:46:00Jimenez.
00:46:01Managed to scramble it on to Wilson.
00:46:03Back it goes.
00:46:04Look at Raul Jimenez.
00:46:05Vital touch by Timber.
00:46:06Iwobi.
00:46:07Back through the penalty.
00:46:08And Wilson arrives.
00:46:10Fulham burns respond.
00:46:12Crescendo of noise.
00:46:14Tenacity.
00:46:17Endeavour.
00:46:18And in the end.
00:46:19And the ball was played back by Iwobi.
00:46:21Met it true enough.
00:46:22But couldn't keep it down.
00:46:25Come on Fulham is the cry.
00:46:28Zubamendi.
00:46:29There's Timber down the right hand side.
00:46:32Keeping Ben wide out of the team.
00:46:33Because he's a more attacking threat.
00:46:36Saka's squeezing through to Eza.
00:46:38Jokre's that's a good challenge.
00:46:41It's a good challenge.
00:46:42And Crenker stayed down.
00:46:44And Gareth's holding his face.
00:46:46Just got bumped there from Jokre.
00:46:51Fulham determinedly have held on for 57 minutes.
00:46:56Here comes the cross.
00:46:57It's in this round.
00:46:59Trossard.
00:47:00Score of many.
00:47:01An important goal was in there.
00:47:03Did he get the touch?
00:47:04He thinks he did.
00:47:06Gabriel was involved as well.
00:47:08Arsenal lead.
00:47:0958 minutes gone.
00:47:10Trossard arriving at the far post.
00:47:13The deadlock is broken.
00:47:14One of the near posts by Gabriel.
00:47:16And there's the Belgian international to force it in.
00:47:20Coaches goal for Trossard.
00:47:22Now the best teams find a way.
00:47:27If they can hold on to this lead.
00:47:30Now that Arsenal would have come through a tricky day.
00:47:33Saka.
00:47:39Taking on Kevin.
00:47:41That is going to be a penalty kick.
00:47:45Risky challenge by the substitute.
00:47:47It's the first thing he's done since coming on.
00:47:51VAR was asking the question whether the ball was touched.
00:47:55Stuart Atwell has told Anthony Taylor to go to the monitor.
00:48:01He's made contact with the ball there.
00:48:04The ball moves off the contact from the foot.
00:48:07This has to be overturned the decision.
00:48:10And here comes the referee.
00:48:11After review.
00:48:12And we'll hear his description.
00:48:14422 makes a challenge.
00:48:17And plays the ball.
00:48:19Therefore no fouls committed.
00:48:21No penalty.
00:48:21No penalty.
00:48:22Martinelli.
00:48:29Martinelli.
00:48:32Squeezes the pass up wide to Saka.
00:48:35Timbers there ahead of him.
00:48:38Into Jokeres again.
00:48:39Back to goal.
00:48:39Good swivel.
00:48:40It's parried.
00:48:42And that's a good double save.
00:48:43Martinelli denied in the end.
00:48:45Well there you can see what Jokeres can do.
00:48:48Decent save.
00:48:49And then the follow up save from Martinelli.
00:48:51Was just as good.
00:48:53We came to a really difficult place.
00:48:55We had experience in the last two seasons.
00:48:56Not winning here.
00:48:57And we wanted to make another step.
00:49:00Against that really good side.
00:49:01And keep knocking on the door.
00:49:02And keep insisting.
00:49:03Because the way they play demands that.
00:49:06But very happy.
00:49:07At the point of the corner was taken.
00:49:10I saw Gabi going to duel.
00:49:11And I went to the back post when it happened.
00:49:13So really pleased the ball came there.
00:49:17And yeah.
00:49:17Did the last job.
00:49:19Where Gabriel's jump.
00:49:20So wide that it's almost impossible.
00:49:22If you don't stop him in the run.
00:49:23And we tried.
00:49:24Most of the times we did very well in our defensive set pieces.
00:49:27In that moment he jumped in a way that was very difficult for us to control.
00:49:32Three goals conceded in 11 games.
00:49:34That's the best ever defensive start in Arsenal's history.
00:49:38Yeah.
00:49:38I'm so happy for the team.
00:49:42For everyone.
00:49:43Because we work very hard.
00:49:44And training every day.
00:49:46And yeah.
00:49:47That's the reward we get as well.
00:49:48If you keep a clean sheet.
00:49:49You need only one goal to win a game.
00:49:51And it was a tough game for us today.
00:49:53And we did it that way.
00:49:55Well Jonathan said it there.
00:49:56They are the best defensively in Europe.
00:49:58They've gone back to back games now.
00:49:59Without letting the opposition have a shot.
00:50:01First time in 22 years.
00:50:02So what's improved?
00:50:03Because they were already good last season defensively.
00:50:05Yeah.
00:50:06I think they defend really well as a team.
00:50:09In all parts of the pitch.
00:50:11So I just want to show you the first clip.
00:50:13You would say this is a high block.
00:50:15If Alan you forgive me for saying that.
00:50:17But in terms of.
00:50:19It was a throw in.
00:50:20And look at the reaction from Gabriel to get back in.
00:50:24Now you've got a four versus four.
00:50:27And as the clip materialises.
00:50:30The ball goes wide.
00:50:33Gabriel's back into position.
00:50:34The ball's going to get circulated around again.
00:50:38And before you know it.
00:50:40You've got the whole team.
00:50:42Behind the ball.
00:50:44That is defending.
00:50:45As a group.
00:50:46As a team.
00:50:47Knowing exactly what they need to do.
00:50:49So you've had the high block.
00:50:50Now we're in the mid block.
00:50:52Arsenal on the ball.
00:50:53They give away the ball.
00:50:54Sloppily.
00:50:56And.
00:50:57You think in this situation.
00:50:58Will they panic?
00:50:59Nope.
00:51:00Rice.
00:51:01Sales Gabriel to go left.
00:51:02Caleb Fiore doubles up with him.
00:51:04Rice goes into the centre back position.
00:51:06Absolute.
00:51:07Brilliant defending.
00:51:08So they've had the high.
00:51:09We've had the middle.
00:51:10And this is what they've been doing.
00:51:11Especially in the Champions League.
00:51:12Against really good sides.
00:51:14In that low block.
00:51:15Saying to Fulham.
00:51:17Play round us.
00:51:18Because you're not going to play through us.
00:51:19And if they do get through.
00:51:21It's going to have to be something exceptional to really do that.
00:51:26Nice and compact.
00:51:27Excellent.
00:51:29And.
00:51:29Yeah.
00:51:30I mean.
00:51:31The compactness in the centre of the pitch.
00:51:33Of this team.
00:51:34Is just brilliant.
00:51:35So the conclusion of that.
00:51:37If they continue to do this.
00:51:39Last season they drew 1-0.
00:51:40Today they get the win.
00:51:41And if they want to win the league.
00:51:43They need to carry on with this form.
00:51:44Because look at that.
00:51:45Goals conceded first.
00:51:46Clean sheets first.
00:51:47Big chances against first.
00:51:49XG.
00:51:50And the rest is history.
00:51:52And.
00:51:53May well be.
00:51:54May be.
00:51:54As you allude to there.
00:51:56Defensively.
00:51:57Yes.
00:51:57Very very strong.
00:51:58They've scored the same amount of goals at this stage.
00:51:59As they did last year.
00:52:00Which is 15 goals.
00:52:01And all season long.
00:52:02We were hearing.
00:52:02They really need a centre forward.
00:52:04They need somebody who can.
00:52:05You know.
00:52:05Bag them a load of goals.
00:52:06They buy the centre forward.
00:52:07In the Ocarus.
00:52:08And he hasn't got the goals.
00:52:09No.
00:52:10But has he helped improve them.
00:52:11Yeah.
00:52:12He hasn't got the goals.
00:52:13I mean.
00:52:13He's not in the league.
00:52:13Of the three.
00:52:15We showed in the previous clip.
00:52:16Far from that.
00:52:17But I think he brings a different strength.
00:52:19There's no doubt that he will have to improve his goal scoring.
00:52:23As you said.
00:52:23He's only got three.
00:52:24But one of his strengths.
00:52:26Which has suited Arsenal.
00:52:27Is.
00:52:28He actually goes the other way.
00:52:29He goes in behind.
00:52:30And I think when he does that.
00:52:32That then creates space for others to play.
00:52:34Because.
00:52:35Last season.
00:52:36You had maybe Havertz.
00:52:37Or Mourinho.
00:52:38Mourinho.
00:52:39Coming short.
00:52:40And that's easier for teams to defend against.
00:52:42But when you're running the other way.
00:52:44They get deeper and deeper.
00:52:45Deeper.
00:52:45That then opens the space.
00:52:47So for others to play.
00:52:48So I think.
00:52:48From that point of view.
00:52:50He has improved Arsenal.
00:52:52And will he get the goals?
00:52:53Do you feel like that?
00:52:54I think he will get the goals.
00:52:55Obviously nowhere near as many as he got last season.
00:52:57But he will get the goals.
00:52:58With the number of chances that Arsenal create.
00:53:01He will.
00:53:01And his numbers should improve.
00:53:03Okay.
00:53:04Two games.
00:53:05On tomorrow's match of the day.
00:53:06There's live commentary of both of those games on BBC Sounds tomorrow.
00:53:32Premier League Sunday begins at midday.
00:53:34You can also see highlights of all the week's Champions League games on Wednesday nights at 10.40 on BBC One.
00:53:39And if you fancy something a bit different you can watch the final day of Grand Sumo Tournament live from the Royal Abbott Hall on iPlayer from 2 o'clock.
00:53:50Winless Wolves travelled to face a Sunderland side unbeaten at home since returning to the top flight.
00:53:56Your commentator is Guy Mowbray.
00:53:57It's been a more than decent start by Sunderland and a very successful return to the Premier League for Granit Xhaka.
00:54:06He's provided the assist for all the team's last three goals and has fond memories at Wolves from last time he played them.
00:54:12Scoring twice in his final Arsenal appearance.
00:54:14A 5-0 win in May 2023.
00:54:17Fellow 33-year-old Matt Doherty is the only one playing today who also figured the last time these clubs met.
00:54:24Way back in a division down in May 2018.
00:54:26He missed Wolves' last game against Brighton following a wrist operation but he's quickly back to lead them in their quest for a first win of the season.
00:54:36The Black Cats purring especially at home whilst Wolves are howling.
00:54:41And if they don't get that first win here today or against Burnley next weekend then the anguish will be at a maximum.
00:54:51Siddiqui.
00:54:53Isidore.
00:54:54Johnston scampers back towards his goal.
00:54:56Isidore's got a lot to do but he's done it.
00:55:00And now the flight goes up.
00:55:04So Isidore's celebrations are cut short.
00:55:08Brilliantly finished by Wilson Isidore.
00:55:11Who is looking to carry on being Mr. 100% at home.
00:55:15He's scored in every game at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League this season.
00:55:19And for a brief run but he thought he'd done it again.
00:55:20Looking for a third home win already this season.
00:55:26The last time they were in the Premier League in 2016-17.
00:55:28They only won three at home all season.
00:55:31The last time they were in the Premier League in 2016-17.
00:55:33And for a third home win.
00:55:33And for a third home win.
00:55:33And for a third home win.
00:55:34And for a third home win.
00:55:35Le Fay effortlessly found by Xhaka.
00:55:42Win turns Doherty with ease as well.
00:55:44Here's Mukiele.
00:55:45He's going for the return.
00:55:49And he's scored.
00:55:53What a wonderful Sunderland move.
00:55:56Finished off by Noddy Mukiele's first Sunderland goal.
00:56:01Look at Mukiele.
00:56:01As soon as he laid it off.
00:56:04He demanded the return from Trey Duke.
00:56:08And he managed to get the shot through Sam Johnston.
00:56:11Who will feel that never mind sugar saved it at one point.
00:56:15He had saved it.
00:56:16In Sunderland one.
00:56:17Wolves nil.
00:56:21Trey Oreck.
00:56:24Cut out by Hugo Buena.
00:56:26Wolves have got to hang on just for the moment.
00:56:28Because Sunderland are well on top of Vito Pereira's team.
00:56:35Up on by Ballard.
00:56:37And off the post.
00:56:38Trey Hume so close to making it two.
00:56:41I see the clock whirring in Trey Hume's mind.
00:56:47Head it.
00:56:47Kick it.
00:56:48What do I do?
00:56:48I think he picked the right option.
00:56:50Very nearly scored.
00:56:51There you go.
00:56:55Gomez is going for it.
00:56:59Kiel is going away with it.
00:57:01Rigg.
00:57:02Oh.
00:57:02Risking.
00:57:03Ballard couldn't collect it.
00:57:04Strand Larson couldn't convert it.
00:57:06Joe Gomez.
00:57:10Wolves nearly gifted her way back into the game.
00:57:12Andre.
00:57:14That one's flown.
00:57:18Spent like a half of two halves.
00:57:21Sunderland on top for the first quarter.
00:57:24Wolves are well in this game.
00:57:29Andre.
00:57:30Jao Gomez.
00:57:34Rodrigo Gomez.
00:57:39Tugo Bueno.
00:57:41Marius knocks it down.
00:57:43And Manezzi lets fly.
00:57:46Roofs positioned absolutely brilliantly.
00:57:50A really simple save for him because of where he started.
00:57:54It's too close to the giant frame of Robin Roofsson.
00:57:57Curling towards the goalkeeper all the time.
00:58:01Siddiqui.
00:58:03Lefe.
00:58:04It's bounced off him.
00:58:06The referee does now stop the game.
00:58:09He was happy to see if some sort of advantage would develop.
00:58:12But it didn't.
00:58:20That's a difficult one to defend.
00:58:22But.
00:58:23Wolves have managed it.
00:58:26Ballard couldn't get the touch at the end.
00:58:28That's how this bounces.
00:58:30Bit of a spin on it.
00:58:31That's what takes it away from the flying Ballard.
00:58:34I think his expression rather sums up this second half.
00:58:38So does theirs.
00:58:40So does theirs.
00:58:40Arikadari down to Strand Larson.
00:58:47Arikadari misses it.
00:58:48And then the chance is put wide and it was another big chance.
00:58:53Chet Shua was in behind.
00:58:57I just wonder now if the Wolves' candle has flickered out.
00:59:00It might be a case of them needing to have done more when they did have spells on top.
00:59:06For much of this half that's been the case.
00:59:08Arikadari.
00:59:09Arikadari.
00:59:10Arikadari.
00:59:11Arikadari.
00:59:12Arikadari.
00:59:13Arikadari.
00:59:14Arikadari.
00:59:15Arikadari.
00:59:16There.
00:59:17And Lopez puts the next ball into the Sunderland box.
00:59:20Frantic defending now.
00:59:21And he trousers away with it.
00:59:23And look at the break.
00:59:24It's Talby.
00:59:25He's got Le Fay up there.
00:59:27He's got Mayenda further over.
00:59:28And Jost has been beaten by his own player.
00:59:322-0 Sunderland.
00:59:34Own goal, Critchie.
00:59:39Now the win is sealed.
00:59:42Hall's rotten luck continues.
00:59:45Perhaps appropriately enough.
00:59:47Beaten by the Black Cats.
00:59:50Talby leading the counter charge.
00:59:53He was looking for Mayenda at the back.
00:59:56Critchie knew he had to cut it out somehow.
00:59:58But Johnston was completely wrong-footed by that.
01:00:02Wolves are staying bottom.
01:00:04Sunderland are staying with that feeling
01:00:06and flying high in the Premier League.
01:00:10Was it a little bit anxious in the second half
01:00:13without that second goal on the board?
01:00:15Yeah, probably a bit.
01:00:16Because we are still a young team
01:00:17with limited shared experience.
01:00:21So you can't buy maturity.
01:00:25You have to experience different situations.
01:00:27It wasn't another one.
01:00:29And at least the mindset,
01:00:32the togetherness,
01:00:33helped us to keep this friendship.
01:00:36We have two or three chances
01:00:37that we cannot lose
01:00:38or cannot miss.
01:00:40That is football.
01:00:42Keep working.
01:00:45And prepare the next game.
01:00:48Because this is a game
01:00:49that we must win.
01:00:51Like today,
01:00:52but we must score goals,
01:00:55not concede goals.
01:00:57And this is what we should do.
01:00:59Lorde Mukherjeele,
01:01:00he seems to sum this team up.
01:01:02He plays happy football.
01:01:05Yeah, absolutely.
01:01:06Absolutely.
01:01:06He has a really good energy
01:01:07and he's really well connected
01:01:10with our project,
01:01:12our team.
01:01:14And he's a good player.
01:01:16We play very well
01:01:17the first half and the second.
01:01:19And yeah,
01:01:19we scored two goals
01:01:20and we don't concede.
01:01:21So this is really important for us,
01:01:23for the team
01:01:24and for the confidence.
01:01:25And yeah,
01:01:26I'm really happy
01:01:27also for my first goal at home.
01:01:29And yeah,
01:01:30just hope that we will keep going
01:01:31like we do
01:01:31because we did
01:01:33a really good game today.
01:01:35Well,
01:01:35no spoilers,
01:01:36but the fact that Sunderland
01:01:37are higher up the running order
01:01:38than Newcastle on the show
01:01:39and you're here
01:01:39might tell us something
01:01:40about what's going to happen
01:01:41in that match.
01:01:42But let's not go down that road
01:01:43because actually huge credit
01:01:45to Sunderland
01:01:46for their start of the season.
01:01:46Have a little look at this.
01:01:4799 teams have been promoted
01:01:50to the Premier League
01:01:50in its history
01:01:51and they are joint fifth
01:01:52in the amount of points
01:01:54they've managed to accrue
01:01:55in their first eight games.
01:01:58Joint with obviously
01:01:58the teams there
01:01:59right going up to Middlesbrough
01:02:00who are the only team
01:02:02out of that list
01:02:03who actually ended up
01:02:04being relegated.
01:02:05So it's boding very well
01:02:06for them this start
01:02:07to the season
01:02:07and their home form.
01:02:08So well,
01:02:09I think they signed
01:02:10really good players.
01:02:11Yes,
01:02:11they spent a lot of money
01:02:13but they brought quality
01:02:15into the squad.
01:02:15Xhaka's been good,
01:02:17Muchielli as well
01:02:18and you want to give
01:02:19Sunderland some praise
01:02:19don't you Alan?
01:02:21Well,
01:02:21you watch this game Micah
01:02:22so you can talk about it.
01:02:23What we did say about
01:02:25their home form
01:02:25was always going to be key
01:02:26and that's been
01:02:28part of their success.
01:02:29161 million they spent,
01:02:3014 players have been brought in
01:02:33but they've got to gel,
01:02:34they've got to work,
01:02:34they've got to be quality.
01:02:35Yes,
01:02:36I think that's the most important thing.
01:02:38You can sign whoever you want
01:02:39but they've got to buy into
01:02:40exactly what they want to do
01:02:42and they've got to perform
01:02:43and like you said,
01:02:44other than what,
01:02:45three wins and a draw at home
01:02:46they're using their stadium
01:02:47as a fortress
01:02:48and you know,
01:02:50I want to eat a little bit
01:02:51of humble pie as well
01:02:52because of the amount
01:02:53of players they signed
01:02:54I thought it would be
01:02:55difficult for them
01:02:56and they've done better
01:02:57than I expected
01:02:58and long may it continue
01:02:59because it's a really good story.
01:03:02Muchielli there
01:03:03with obviously
01:03:04a fantastic goal for him
01:03:06and obviously
01:03:07we've got to mention Wolves
01:03:08who are still winless
01:03:09wasn't a good start
01:03:11to them last season
01:03:11either
01:03:12but they've got
01:03:12Same as what happened
01:03:13last season
01:03:14they didn't win any
01:03:15in the first day
01:03:16of last season
01:03:16I think their next home game
01:03:17is Burnley
01:03:18and they have to win that.
01:03:21OK,
01:03:21up next
01:03:22Brighton face Newcastle
01:03:23with the Magpies
01:03:24never having won
01:03:25a Premier League game
01:03:26at the Amex
01:03:27Steve Wilson was there.
01:03:30Nine points from seven games
01:03:32is a slightly underwhelming
01:03:33tally for both these clubs
01:03:34who've come a long way
01:03:36since being promoted
01:03:37together in 2017.
01:03:39Fabian Ertzler
01:03:40makes one chase
01:03:41to Brighton XI
01:03:42which salvaged
01:03:42the late point
01:03:43at Wolves.
01:03:44Gruder has a knock
01:03:45and is replaced
01:03:46by Ruter.
01:03:47Nick Valtemada
01:03:48scored his first goal
01:03:49for Germany
01:03:50in the international break
01:03:51adding to a goal
01:03:52in each of his last three
01:03:54for Newcastle.
01:03:55No changes
01:03:56from the win over Forest.
01:03:59If this game
01:04:00were to finish goalless
01:04:01then Newcastle
01:04:02would be the first club
01:04:03in 90 years
01:04:04to play out
01:04:05goalless draws
01:04:05in each of their first
01:04:07four away league games.
01:04:11Trippier
01:04:12little bit of room
01:04:13crosses a decent one
01:04:16it was Joe Linton
01:04:17who attacked it
01:04:17Tonali turns it back
01:04:19into Bruno Guimaraes
01:04:20who did really well
01:04:21to find some space
01:04:22and is not far away
01:04:24that little step away
01:04:26from Dunk
01:04:27just gave him the room
01:04:29he needed
01:04:29to get the shot away.
01:04:32Eddie Howe
01:04:32used to be the fresh
01:04:34faced
01:04:34bright young thing
01:04:36of Premier League
01:04:37management
01:04:37but
01:04:39Fabian Ertzler
01:04:40is 15 years younger.
01:04:47Oh Joe Linton's
01:04:49given it away
01:04:49to Welbeck
01:04:50Jorginho Routier
01:04:51here for Brighton
01:04:52it's a good effort
01:04:54and a good save.
01:04:57Well Joe Linton
01:04:58will be mightily relieved.
01:05:01They thought they had
01:05:02Routier penned in
01:05:03he did very well
01:05:04to get the shot away
01:05:05on target
01:05:05good save by Pope.
01:05:092017
01:05:10Newcastle
01:05:10went up to
01:05:11the Premier League
01:05:11as champions
01:05:12just one point
01:05:14ahead of Brighton
01:05:14who went up
01:05:15as runners up
01:05:16in 17 meetings
01:05:17since
01:05:17Newcastle
01:05:18have only won
01:05:19two.
01:05:21Routier
01:05:22Routier
01:05:24through to
01:05:25Welbeck
01:05:25and nicked in
01:05:27by Danny Welbeck
01:05:28and that was
01:05:30so straightforward
01:05:31so simple
01:05:33straight down
01:05:35the middle
01:05:36and Brighton
01:05:37are in front
01:05:38but Routier
01:05:39collected the pass
01:05:41simply accelerated
01:05:43away from
01:05:44Tonali
01:05:44threaded it
01:05:46through to
01:05:46Welbeck
01:05:47who clipped
01:05:47it over
01:05:47Pope
01:05:48well how did
01:05:50Newcastle
01:05:51allow them
01:05:51to stroll
01:05:52through
01:05:52so simply
01:05:54it's beautifully
01:05:54taken by
01:05:55Welbeck
01:05:56Brighton
01:05:57won
01:05:58Newcastle
01:05:58nil
01:05:59oh he's done
01:06:06well
01:06:06Belieber
01:06:07four in this
01:06:09Brighton attack
01:06:10this is
01:06:11Routier
01:06:11Cadio
01:06:14Cadio
01:06:14put it into a
01:06:15great area
01:06:16but luckily
01:06:17for Newcastle
01:06:18there weren't
01:06:18any blue and
01:06:19white jerseys
01:06:19there and
01:06:20Bottman
01:06:20cleared
01:06:21there are a few
01:06:21appeals here
01:06:22from Brighton
01:06:22Van Hecker
01:06:23with a very
01:06:24strong challenge
01:06:25Decai
01:06:35Decaipa
01:06:36Pope managed to
01:06:37keep it away
01:06:37they're hanging on
01:06:39here in Newcastle
01:06:40that's a good save
01:06:43by Pope
01:06:44well hit
01:06:45by Decaipa
01:06:46there were a few
01:06:47appeals here for
01:06:47handball
01:06:48don't think you can
01:06:49go giving those
01:06:50a corner
01:06:57unless
01:06:58doesn't prevent it
01:06:58Bruno
01:07:12Guimaraes
01:07:12was looking for
01:07:13the contact
01:07:14with Cadio
01:07:14and then
01:07:15recovered
01:07:16it's pushed

01:07:17Verbruggen
01:07:18Newcastle

01:07:27for the
01:07:28contact
01:07:28with Cadio
01:07:30he's done
01:07:32well to get
01:07:32back on his
01:07:33feet
01:07:33smashing it
01:07:34across goal
01:07:34Pope pushed
01:07:35it out
01:07:35now did it
01:07:36hit FIFA
01:07:36on the arm
01:07:37you'd say
01:07:40it did
01:07:40it does
01:07:43hit his
01:07:43hand but
01:07:44deemed to be
01:07:45in a natural
01:07:45position which
01:07:46seems reasonable
01:07:47enough to me
01:07:48Murphy

01:08:44Dan Byrne
01:08:54with the
01:08:54throw
01:08:55oh that
01:08:57was very
01:08:57awkward for
01:08:57Verbruggen
01:08:58and Bruno
01:08:59Guimaraes
01:09:00sees it
01:09:00fly over the

01:09:21been well
01:09:21found
01:09:22super
01:09:22challenged
01:09:23but well
01:09:23back
01:09:24he hadn't
01:09:30scored at
01:09:30the Amex
01:09:31since February
01:09:31and he was
01:09:33about to be
01:09:34substituted
01:09:34but he's
01:09:36got his
01:09:36second to
01:09:37this game
01:09:37and put
01:09:38Brighton
01:09:39back in
01:09:39front
01:09:40all about
01:09:43the run
01:09:43of Mats
01:09:44FIFA
01:09:44really
01:09:45it's a
01:09:46great
01:09:46challenge
01:09:47but it
01:09:48fell
01:09:48beautifully
01:09:49for
01:09:49Welbeck
01:09:50and he
01:09:51tucked it
01:09:52away with
01:09:52such
01:09:52aplomb
01:09:53and his
01:09:56name
01:09:57rings around
01:09:58the Amex
01:09:59we showed
01:10:02resilience
01:10:02we showed
01:10:03character
01:10:03we showed
01:10:04personality
01:10:04on the
01:10:05pitch
01:10:05and we
01:10:06stick to
01:10:06our
01:10:06principle
01:10:06we
01:10:07stayed
01:10:07in our
01:10:08formation
01:10:08we kept
01:10:10the structure
01:10:10quite well
01:10:11and then we
01:10:11get the
01:10:12reward
01:10:12so I'm
01:10:13very pleased
01:10:14with the
01:10:14performance
01:10:15overall
01:10:15we're disappointed
01:10:16with the first
01:10:17half performance
01:10:17really
01:10:18a bright start
01:10:19and then we
01:10:19faded
01:10:20the last half
01:10:21an hour
01:10:21that first
01:10:21half was
01:10:22hard to watch
01:10:24really
01:10:24I don't think
01:10:25we were
01:10:25particularly good
01:10:25with the ball
01:10:26and we ended
01:10:26up in transition
01:10:27an awful lot
01:10:28and Brighton
01:10:29scored in that
01:10:29period
01:10:30we were pleased
01:10:30to get in
01:10:31at 1-0
01:10:31and then try
01:10:32and regroup
01:10:32we were much
01:10:33better in the
01:10:33second half
01:10:33we gave a much
01:10:34better account
01:10:35of ourselves
01:10:35we looked like
01:10:36we could score
01:10:36we were a
01:10:37goal threat
01:10:37and when we
01:10:39conceded the
01:10:39second goal
01:10:40we were the
01:10:40dominant team
01:10:41there's always
01:10:42that possibility
01:10:42you've got to
01:10:43sniff it out
01:10:44that the ball
01:10:45could fall
01:10:45your way
01:10:45so I was
01:10:47kind of
01:10:47wondering
01:10:49trying to see
01:10:50if it could
01:10:51fall nicely
01:10:51for me
01:10:52and it did
01:10:53and I stuck
01:10:54it away
01:10:54very nicely
01:10:55the years
01:10:56the years
01:10:56you've been
01:10:56playing
01:10:56at this
01:10:57level
01:10:57you just
01:10:57look like
01:10:58a guy
01:10:58who's
01:10:58really
01:10:58enjoying
01:10:59himself
01:10:59nah
01:11:00I'm hating
01:11:00it
01:11:00I love it
01:11:03I've got the
01:11:04passion and love
01:11:05for football
01:11:06so when I'm out
01:11:07there on the pitch
01:11:08it's what I want
01:11:08to do
01:11:09I'm feeling good
01:11:10feel fit
01:11:11feel strong
01:11:11so it's not
01:11:12a time of
01:11:13stopping any time
01:11:14shortly
01:11:15did they deserve
01:11:17the win today
01:11:18Brighton
01:11:18yeah
01:11:18I thought
01:11:19Brighton
01:11:19were the better
01:11:20team
01:11:21Newcastle I thought
01:11:22were too easy
01:11:23to play through
01:11:24at times
01:11:24and Brighton
01:11:25found that way
01:11:26of finding that
01:11:27extra man in front
01:11:28of the back four
01:11:29and Newcastle's
01:11:30midfield
01:11:31and in fact
01:11:31Newcastle covered
01:11:33less ground
01:11:346km less ground
01:11:35than Brighton
01:11:36out of possession
01:11:37and that tells you
01:11:38we talk about
01:11:39whether it was
01:11:40Joe Linton
01:11:40or Bruno
01:11:41travelling back
01:11:42from playing
01:11:43Japan
01:11:43and South Korea
01:11:44or wherever
01:11:45or Tenali
01:11:46playing for Italy
01:11:47but it was
01:11:48unusual for Newcastle
01:11:49the first goals
01:11:50have conceded
01:11:50away from home
01:11:51and this is what
01:11:51Brighton did
01:11:53really really well
01:11:53getting in those
01:11:55positions there
01:11:55and the midfield
01:11:57just couldn't cope
01:11:58with that
01:11:58it's a brilliant
01:11:59ball through
01:11:59and a very very
01:12:00clever finish
01:12:01and it happened
01:12:02a few occasions
01:12:03there's the midfield
01:12:04they just played
01:12:05around them
01:12:06look Joe Linton
01:12:06comes in
01:12:07it's not really a press
01:12:08and the passing
01:12:09and the moving
01:12:10from Brighton
01:12:11again was
01:12:11excellent
01:12:13I know they came
01:12:14into it a lot more
01:12:14in the second half
01:12:15Newcastle
01:12:16but they took
01:12:17Joe Linton off
01:12:18they brought
01:12:18Lewis Miley
01:12:19onto the pitch
01:12:20but still
01:12:21they were finding
01:12:22those little
01:12:22bits of space
01:12:23just in between
01:12:24there you go
01:12:25Iari is there
01:12:26and again
01:12:27that pass is correct
01:12:28and before Newcastle
01:12:29can react
01:12:30they're too late
01:12:31and they should have
01:12:31been punished
01:12:32again
01:12:32and this was the
01:12:33winning goal
01:12:35coming up
01:12:35the movement's
01:12:36fantastic
01:12:36from Brighton
01:12:37look at Wefer
01:12:38there getting
01:12:39into that space
01:12:40albeit
01:12:40he doesn't
01:12:41get that
01:12:41ball
01:12:41doesn't come
01:12:42for him
01:12:42but that
01:12:43is such
01:12:44a clever
01:12:45finish
01:12:45it really
01:12:46really is
01:12:47and it has
01:12:48to
01:12:48because Newcastle
01:12:50normally
01:12:50in those positions
01:12:51they're really
01:12:52strong
01:12:52but today
01:12:53they weren't
01:12:54look at that
01:12:54Mike
01:12:55he's ageing
01:12:56like a fine wine
01:12:57isn't he
01:12:57Danny Welbeck
01:12:58he's on
01:12:59to score
01:12:59more goals
01:13:00in his 30s
01:13:01than he did
01:13:02in his 20s
01:13:03he only needs
01:13:03five more
01:13:04to equal
01:13:04his 20s
01:13:05total
01:13:05he's 34
01:13:06years old
01:13:06so it's
01:13:08feasible
01:13:08that he'll
01:13:09do that
01:13:09before he's
01:13:0935
01:13:10he's just
01:13:10a fantastic
01:13:11pro
01:13:11I mean
01:13:12he's had
01:13:12his knee
01:13:12injuries
01:13:13as well
01:13:13but he
01:13:14plays in
01:13:14a system
01:13:14that suits
01:13:15him
01:13:15and he
01:13:16said in
01:13:16his interview
01:13:16that he
01:13:17loves football
01:13:17I think
01:13:18he's got
01:13:18another
01:13:19three four
01:13:20years in him
01:13:20I don't
01:13:21think he's
01:13:21finishing
01:13:21any time
01:13:22soon
01:13:22because
01:13:23he's a
01:13:23number nine
01:13:24and there's
01:13:24not many
01:13:25number nines
01:13:25about there
01:13:26and I'm
01:13:26just delighted
01:13:26for him
01:13:27OK
01:13:28it was a
01:13:28battle between
01:13:29two promoted
01:13:30sides

01:16:28what a

01:19:00frustration
01:19:01James'
01:19:05delivery
01:19:05towards
01:19:05Calvert-Lewin
01:19:06and
01:19:07Padua
01:19:07couldn't wrap
01:19:08his leg
01:19:08around it
01:19:09Walker
01:19:11can't clear
01:19:11either
01:19:12Chauder
01:19:14has stayed
01:19:17down
01:19:17goodmanson
01:19:20goodmanson
01:19:21it's
01:19:23cross
01:19:23and I
01:19:24think
01:19:24Metz
01:19:24got the
01:19:25final
01:19:25touch
01:19:26there
01:19:26it's
01:19:28going to be
01:19:29a second
01:19:29win of the
01:19:30season for
01:19:30Scott Parker
01:19:31and for the
01:19:32first time
01:19:32Burnley have
01:19:33beaten
01:19:33Leeds
01:19:34United in
01:19:34the Premier
01:19:35League
01:19:35Burnley 2
01:19:36Leeds
01:19:37United
01:19:37now
01:19:37I thought the
01:19:39performance was
01:19:39everything we
01:19:40planned to come
01:19:41here today really
01:19:42so hugely
01:19:44competitive team
01:19:44and we probably
01:19:45experienced that
01:19:46last year certainly
01:19:47went toe to toe
01:19:48with Leeds for
01:19:48some time
01:19:49throughout that
01:19:50year
01:19:50but overall
01:19:52today
01:19:53first and foremost
01:19:54coming to get a
01:19:55result
01:19:55and we've
01:19:57managed to do
01:19:57that
01:19:57your first
01:19:58Burnley goal
01:19:59and what a goal
01:20:01can you talk us
01:20:01through it please
01:20:02I'm very happy
01:20:05I'm full
01:20:06I'm excited
01:20:09and proud
01:20:11and satisfied
01:20:12because it's
01:20:13long work
01:20:14I work every day
01:20:15for this
01:20:16with the team
01:20:17it's a beautiful
01:20:17goal
01:20:18I'm happy
01:20:19you have to be
01:20:20clinical
01:20:20especially as a
01:20:21newly promoted
01:20:21side
01:20:22and yeah
01:20:23each of your
01:20:23situation counts
01:20:24or to be
01:20:25self-critical
01:20:26you have to say
01:20:27you didn't have
01:20:27this effectiveness
01:20:28level
01:20:28like they had
01:20:29performance wise
01:20:30I can't complain
01:20:32about anything
01:20:32but this
01:20:33whole football works
01:20:33Oh and Daniel
01:20:35and the Leeds fans
01:20:35look at those stats
01:20:36they will wonder
01:20:36how they came
01:20:37away from
01:20:38Turf Moor
01:20:39with nothing
01:20:40Yeah Leeds were
01:20:40excellent
01:20:41apart from
01:20:42putting the
01:20:43ball in the
01:20:43back of the net
01:20:44absolutely dominated
01:20:45the game
01:20:45but Burnley
01:20:46stayed in the game
01:20:48and took the
01:20:48chances when
01:20:49needed
01:20:50Kyle Walker
01:20:50the first one
01:20:51the great
01:20:51great cross
01:20:52into
01:20:53Le Chukwu
01:20:53and then the
01:20:54second one
01:20:55Chuana
01:20:55what a strike
01:20:56this is
01:20:57he finds a
01:20:58little space
01:20:59in there
01:21:00and the
01:21:01turn
01:21:02too much
01:21:02time
01:21:03and he just
01:21:03absolutely
01:21:05belts it
01:21:06I mean the
01:21:06technique is
01:21:07just sublime
01:21:08sort of cuts
01:21:09across it
01:21:10the goalkeeper
01:21:11no chance
01:21:12I mean what an
01:21:13amazing goal
01:21:14that was
01:21:15And another
01:21:15promoted side
01:21:16that is really
01:21:17building on their
01:21:18home form
01:21:18Yeah but even if
01:21:19you look at the
01:21:19stats that won't
01:21:20bother Burnley
01:21:21because it was
01:21:21something similar
01:21:22to like that in the
01:21:23championship last
01:21:23season so they've
01:21:24just carried that
01:21:25home but yeah
01:21:25their home form
01:21:26is going to be
01:21:27key like it is
01:21:28for every
01:21:29club that comes
01:21:30up
01:21:30We mentioned a
01:21:32minute ago
01:21:32it's Wolves
01:21:33next away
01:21:34and that's a
01:21:35pivotal game
01:21:36for both
01:21:36they're going to
01:21:37target games
01:21:38away obviously
01:21:38Yeah but I
01:21:38think if you look
01:21:39at the bigger
01:21:40picture for Burnley
01:21:40I think Scott
01:21:41and his staff
01:21:42will be reasonably
01:21:43happy with the
01:21:44start that they've
01:21:45made in the
01:21:46Premier League
01:21:46they've shown to
01:21:48people I think
01:21:49they're going to be
01:21:49competitive
01:21:50particularly at
01:21:51home
01:21:51I think the
01:21:52good thing is
01:21:53when Burnley was
01:21:55under Vincent
01:21:55company they
01:21:56tried to play a
01:21:56style of play
01:21:57obviously they
01:21:58didn't work for
01:21:58the team
01:21:59he worked for
01:21:59company he's
01:21:59gone to Bayern
01:22:00Munich but now
01:22:01they've got a
01:22:02defensive style
01:22:02stuck to what
01:22:03they know and
01:22:04it's working for
01:22:05them and home
01:22:06form
01:22:06Yeah and all
01:22:07three promoted
01:22:08teams are out
01:22:08the bottom three
01:22:09so they'll all be
01:22:10very pleased with
01:22:11this style actually
01:22:12Yeah sticking to
01:22:12their identity
01:22:13working on their
01:22:14home form and
01:22:15at the moment
01:22:15seems to be
01:22:15working for them
01:22:16well let's
01:22:17have a look
01:22:17shall we as
01:22:18you're giving it
01:22:18away at the
01:22:19Premier League
01:22:20table no
01:22:21surprises then
01:22:22with Liverpool
01:22:23not in action
01:22:24until tomorrow
01:22:25Arsenal extend
01:22:26their lead at
01:22:27the top to
01:22:28three points
01:22:28but on the
01:22:29eight occasions
01:22:30that Arsenal
01:22:31have had at
01:22:31least 19
01:22:33points at this
01:22:33stage they've
01:22:34gone on to
01:22:34win the title
01:22:35only once
01:22:35the combined
01:22:36tally of 29
01:22:37points by
01:22:37Sunderland
01:22:38Leeds and
01:22:38Burnley is 15
01:22:39more than the
01:22:40three promoter
01:22:40sides managed
01:22:41this stage of
01:22:42the season
01:22:42last time
01:22:43Wolves failed
01:22:44to win any
01:22:44of their opening
01:22:45eight games
01:22:46for the second
01:22:46season running
01:22:48well as we
01:22:50found out today
01:22:50it's going to
01:22:50take more than
01:22:51a shield to
01:22:52protect you if
01:22:53you're a Premier
01:22:53League manager
01:22:54as Ange
01:22:54Postacoglu found
01:22:55out today
01:22:56banished after
01:22:5739 days and
01:22:58eight games
