00:00Any Halloween Wars team, playing with the big boys now, is a pumpkin carver whose skills are so good,
00:05That's looking badass, man.
00:07They're scary.
00:08There's so much detail.
00:09Anything creepy, I'm all about it.
00:10I forget I'm looking at pumpkin.
00:12I'm so creeped out by this clown face.
00:16The most pumpkin I've ever seen on a display in all the seasons of Halloween.
00:23For the first stop on our hunt, we're headed to Spring, Texas.
00:30I'm Rebecca DeGroot.
00:31I am a tattoo artist and a professional pumpkin carver.
00:34I went to school to be an art teacher.
00:37All right, what do you think?
00:41I have a very dry sense of humor.
00:43My favorite type of joke is a dad joke.
00:46How do you fix a broken pumpkin?
00:48With a pumpkin patch?
00:50Oh, no!
00:51I stopped teaching about a year ago, so I've been exclusively tattooing for the last year.
00:56Being able to design a proper tattoo and making it look good on a three-dimensional object,
01:02like the human skin, is something that really comes into play when you're designing a three-dimensional
01:07car on pumpkins.
01:09So, the process kind of starts when you figure out what will work on the shape of the pumpkin.
01:15This one looks like it would work really well for a spider-type shape.
01:19It's got kind of a larger section here for the face, and we can have legs coming off in either direction.
01:27So, I got into pumpkin carving because I wasn't allowed to celebrate Halloween when I was younger.
01:33We weren't allowed to dress up.
01:34We weren't allowed to go trick-or-treating.
01:36We weren't allowed to do any of those things.
01:38Once I was in college, I fully embraced the Halloween season and started carving pumpkins in my apartment.
01:44All of my pumpkins, I think, and my carves have a little bit of whimsy to them.
01:50All of these tools that I would use as an art teacher come in handy when I'm doing pumpkin carving.
01:55This is actually a tool used for printmaking, and I'm slicing in and creating that raised hair effect.
02:03I've got some potatoes over here that I think would be perfect for the fangs and maybe also the eyes.
02:11I'd say I'm the best pumpkin carver because I can carve really quickly.
02:14I can do really fine details.
02:16I want a flat-ish section so that I can attach it to the face, and that should be good.
02:22I've learned really quickly how to do what I do, and I'm determined to win.
02:27You have a nice, finished, textured pumpkin.
02:32Right?
02:32It'll scare all of your friends and neighbors.
02:35It would mean the world to me to be on Halloween Wars.
02:37I'm still really new in the pumpkin carving community.
02:40I'm coming to win.
02:41I'm coming to hopefully make some new friends.
02:43But, you know, like, kick some butt.
02:44All right, Halloween Wars, I'm ready to leave my mark on this competition.
02:48Does Rebecca have what it takes to get picked?
02:51We've still got a lot of other artists to meet.
02:53Behind every great team is a cake artist who can scare off some of the creepiest cake creations you've ever seen.
02:59I'd like to introduce you to Frida Frostbite.
03:02We're talking about the stuff that nightmares are made of.
03:04The fact that you left the roots of the teeth showing is probably the grimmest path of the whole thing for me.
03:12So each team needs the most horrifically haunting cake artist we can find.
03:16Ew, first of all.
03:18This looks like it belongs in a museum.
03:20Next, we meet a cake artist and content creator whose favorite part of Halloween is definitely the costumes.
03:26Hi, my name is Tanisha Billington.
03:28I'm from Passaic, New Jersey, and I am a cake artist.
03:31I grew up in Georgetown, Guyana, South America.
03:34Very small country.
03:36After meeting my husband here, I moved.
03:39The night of Halloween, he asked me to marry him, and I said yes.
03:42You know, I left my business.
03:43I left my family and everything.
03:45I had to rebuild.
03:47So I just started posting content online.
03:50Brands started to reach out and be like, oh, hey, I want to work with you.
03:52And I'm like, me?
03:54I already have my dragon cake, already sculpted out.
03:58But we're going to add the eyes, and then we're going to go with our airbrush just to add some definition.
04:02I've been drawing my entire life.
04:05As far back as I can remember, I've drawn the wall.
04:09I initially started about 10 years ago making cake.
04:12I love bringing characters to life.
04:15I cosplay a lot of characters, and I realized I could make all the cakes and do the cake in a cosplay.
04:20So we can already see how much cooler this looks, because when we first started, it was just sharp lines separating the white and the red.
04:27But now that I've added the ombre, it just looks like everything is just smoothly flowing into each other.
04:33I've been the past 12 years just building my skill, whether it was painting, sculpting, and just challenging myself.
04:43I'm awesome.
04:44I'm amazing.
04:45Look what I was able to do with my hands.
04:49And most times I'm like with three tools.
04:51Three tools.
04:52I'm like, you know?
04:53I really want to win to make my country proud.
04:57Not many of us are able to do stuff outside of Gaia and I like this.
05:02I'm definitely coming to win.
05:03I hope everyone bring their A game, because I'm bringing my A plus game.
05:07So now we have a dragon, an eagle fairy, and a sword to cut the cake.
05:12But is it good enough to earn Tanisha a spot on Halloween Wars?
05:16This is definitely the winning cake right here.
05:19We'll find out soon.
05:20We'll find out soon.
05:50So next, we'll meet a sugar artist who says he has all those skills, plus a serious axe to grind.
05:57My name is Nils Roland.
05:59I live in St. Augustine, Florida, and I own Creme de la Cocoa.
06:03I've been doing pastry for 19 years.
06:06This will be the third time I've done Halloween Wars.
06:09Nils, this dessert, it's incredible.
06:11This is very successful.
06:13I want to throw this at you.
06:14It's so good.
06:15I've won most of the competitions I've ever been in.
06:18I just can't seem to crack winning on Halloween Wars.
06:21I'll be 80 on there competing.
06:22Be like, this guy has done like 40 shows, and I don't know why he keeps coming back, but he's trying.
06:27Welcome to the kitchen, Halloween Wars.
06:29Come take a peek at my pumpkin creep.
06:31We're going to have some of the vines growing out of his nose and some leaves coming off, and sugar's going to make this whole piece pop.
06:38Sugar always makes everything pop.
06:40I really love sugar work because it's a little bit difficult.
06:43It takes talent.
06:44It takes skill.
06:45It's hot.
06:46It's a medium that you have to know what you're doing in order for it to work, but it's just amazing how thin you can actually get it because you're just pulling basically like wires, right?
06:57A few summers ago, I had to have emergency heart surgery, and I almost died.
07:02It was really crazy, but it really changed the perspective of everything.
07:06You can lose everything really quickly, and for me, being a dad and a husband and a family is the most important part for me.
07:14And when it comes to Halloween Wars, it's the same thing.
07:18You know, I'm going out there for them.
07:19I'm going out there for my family.
07:22And what does every Halloween thing have that this one doesn't have so far?
07:26Just a little bit of horror.
07:28So we're going to add a little bit of sugar blood dripping out just to tie it in a touch.
07:33You don't want to go too crazy and scare the kids that don't sleep.
07:36I think you should pick me for Halloween Wars this season because I'm just going to keep showing up.
07:41And showing out and doing the best that I possibly can to try and get to my goal of winning.
07:47Time to cut the cake.
07:49It's the thing at the shop that everybody gives me the most grief about.
07:54Oh, dang.
07:56Because I'm really great at what I do, but can't win on TV.
07:59I would love to have the chance to stop that sort of nagging and ragging they got on me.
08:06You guys excited for Daddy to go on Halloween Wars?
08:09Yeah.
08:09Yeah, are we going to win?
08:11Yeah.
08:12I'm coming back for the third time and I'm not leaving until I win this one.
08:17Will Nils get his shot at redemption?
08:19We'll find out soon.
08:20But first, just down the street from Nils, we'll meet another scary good cake artist.
08:24My name is Jessica Carr.
08:26I have been a cake artist for about 13 years now.
08:28I got into cake decorating while I was in college for psychology and advertising.
08:34Every time I got stressed out, I would bake and that made me happy.
08:38And so I decided I was going to go to school for baking a pastry.
08:41I actually am just going to go in with this paintbrush and push up the modeling chocolate
08:47into the crevices where the teeth meet.
08:51What I love most about cake is you can use them to celebrate everything and anything.
08:56It's like, I got married.
08:58Here's a cake.
08:58I got divorced.
09:00Here's a cake.
09:00I'm having a book club.
09:02Here's a cake shaped like a book.
09:03With the blood, you can add it on.
09:06You can also paint some on.
09:09I love Halloween because my birthday is actually October 20th.
09:13So I, many a time, had our backyard turned into a haunted house.
09:17I mean, I was born in October.
09:19It's like literally in my veins.
09:21I am coming to win Halloween Wars.
09:23All red blood.
09:24It's all red blood.
09:26I have three kids, five-year-olds, a three-year-old, and a seven-month-old.
09:30My kids will sometimes help me bake.
09:33They will like roll things out and have fun with it.
09:36Cheers.
09:37Let's go.
09:38I think you should pick me for Halloween Wars because I am great at what I do.
09:42My kids have given me the best time management skills that I know would help me crush in this competition.
09:49Thanks for stopping by Halloween Wars.
09:51You better pick me or I'm going to send my little monsters after you.
09:54Coming up, we'll meet even more horrifying cake, sugar, and pumpkin artists who dream of making their mark on Halloween Wars.
10:02Plus, a sneak peek at the new season when the road to Halloween Wars continues.
10:08Halloween Wars is carving up some of the most terrifying feats of cake, sugar, and carved pumpkin you can ever imagine.
10:17Some are frightening.
10:18I don't fully know what it looks like to display open a belly and find donuts, but I imagine it looks just like that.
10:24Some are horrific.
10:25Looking at your display, like, I am so cold looking at it.
10:28I have the chills.
10:29So that was super effective.
10:30And others just plain gross.
10:32Is it working?
10:34Yeah.
10:35Oh, yeah.
10:35How did it look?
10:37So disgusting.
10:38Okay, that special effect was really interesting.
10:41It was gross.
10:42It'll take somebody who's seriously twisted to try to top some of these creations.
10:47But a cake artist in Las Vegas thinks she's up to the task.
10:50Is she twisted enough to get selected for the new season?
10:53So this is my kitchen.
10:55Come on in.
10:56As you can see, I like black.
10:59Black is everything.
11:01I am Natalie Collins-Fish.
11:03I've been a cake artist since 2006.
11:05I became a cake artist because I was actually going to go to art school, but my mom told me that I cannot be an artist because I will be a starving artist.
11:16So I decided to make art with food because at least I won't be hungry.
11:19I graduated from the Culinary Institute of America, and then I worked for Thomas Keller, Jean-Georges, Joao Robichon, and Tom Colicchio.
11:29My life is cake.
11:30Everything in my life revolves around cake.
11:33I even have it on my knuckles.
11:35It says cake life.
11:36You want a plate, too?
11:39My family calls me Natty, but most of the time I go by mommy or bruh.
11:45I have two boys, and they are my biggest fans.
11:49Landon thinks that I'm, like, the best cake decorator ever.
11:54He tells everybody that I'm famous because he thinks I'm famous.
11:58So here I have made a version of myself of what I look like in the morning when I wake up.
12:03I don't have a big gap in my teeth, though.
12:06We are going to keep working on her here.
12:08I refer to myself as, like, the Picasso of cake artistry because I have a very unique style.
12:14I feel like a lot of cake artists are similar to each other, but I have a creative chaos to my work, and it definitely has its own vibe.
12:23So what I have here is I have a mixture of my blood.
12:27As you can see, it's very bloody.
12:29This is cherry jello with water.
12:34We could throw it at her.
12:35I think I'm the best cake artist for Halloween Wars because my style is something that most people, no, nobody has.
12:43I have a very unique style.
12:45I also can work very, very quickly.
12:47I've done stuff most cake artists would think is impossible to do.
12:51Done.
12:53Does she look like me?
12:55Halloween Wars, I'm coming for you, and we're going to show you what cake life is all about.
13:00Now that's a tough act to follow.
13:03Next up, we hit the road to Loosedale, Mississippi to meet another pumpkin carver who dreams of getting picked for the new season.
13:09Halloween Wars, let's crackalacka.
13:11Come on in.
13:13But, uh, watch your heads.
13:16My name's Brian.
13:17So I've been carving pumpkins now for about 14 years.
13:19The first thing that even sparked me to want to do it was watching Ray Villafane on that first season of Halloween Wars
13:24and just seeing how he could sculpt and create crazy pieces.
13:29So I just jumped in, started learning some of the tricks of the trade,
13:33watching some videos here and there until I finally figured out kind of what techniques worked.
13:37I was shaving it.
13:38I'm using basically a wood rasp.
13:39It carves pumpkin skin off.
13:41I've been an emergency nurse practitioner 20 years now.
13:44I would say favorite aspects of it is just being able to make a difference, especially in the ER.
13:48We do anything from sewing folks up, treating runny noses, to broken bones.
13:53So it is chaotic at times.
13:56It's like Halloween Wars, if you think about it.
13:59It looks terrifying.
14:01I would be, too, if I woke up and saw me.
14:03I mean, I've always liked art.
14:05I've always been involved in drawing, like, from as far back as I can remember.
14:08I remember as a kid, I was just constantly picking up books and trying to teach myself.
14:12I very much love drawing cartoons.
14:14I think that cartoons kind of carry over into my caricatures whenever I'm carving.
14:18This is where we're going to put his magic potion in with a little dab of green food coloring.
14:23I've got six children.
14:24Sometimes they get frustrated because I'm carving, like, all the time during the season.
14:28My wife, as much as she'll pick at me about carving pumpkins, she's usually the one that goes out and gets me my first one each year.
14:35That is my little tribe, my little support group.
14:37We could give them legs, but I don't want them running off.
14:40The reason I'm the best pumpkin carver for this show, it's certainly not looks.
14:44I can assure you that.
14:45You better have two lenses whenever you record me because, look at me, look at me.
14:49Unless that lens is tough, it's going to break.
14:51What I'm bringing to Halloween Wars is comedic relief, one.
14:55Two, maybe some chaos.
14:57I'm not afraid to mess with somebody's mind if I got to in order to gain an edge.
15:00If nothing else, I'm going to say a lot of stupid things.
15:03I'm going to be energized the whole time.
15:04I'm, like, perpetual pumpkin power.
15:09There you go.
15:09Triple P, baby.
15:10That's me.
15:13You met my Dr. Jekyll.
15:15Don't make me break out high.
15:16Is perpetual pumpkin power enough to earn a place on one of our teams?
15:21We'll find out soon.
15:22Next, we head out west to California to meet a pharmacist turned cake artist.
15:27Come on in.
15:27With a terrifying secret in the fridge.
15:31Or maybe it's just a cake.
15:33I'm Rochelle Ray Lesteri.
15:35I'm from San Jose, California.
15:37I'm a pharmacist.
15:38I'm also a cake artist.
15:39I work remotely.
15:41So working from home allows me to just have a creative side.
15:45So I just started making cakes for my kids.
15:48And so I started documenting all of my baking on social media.
15:52But then, to my surprise, people started following me.
15:55And it just kind of exploded from there.
15:57It's really important to get the finishing details because it creates the character.
16:00Like, if I don't get her spooky enough, it's just going to take away from what you're trying
16:05to accomplish.
16:06I was born in Quezon City, Philippines.
16:09We moved to the United States when I was about seven years old.
16:11I didn't grow up knowing about ghost stories and horror stories.
16:16And so now I'm just really into Halloween.
16:19It thrilled me.
16:20I love it.
16:20If my mom makes them on Halloween Wars, she'd probably win.
16:24We'll see.
16:25The idea is to add dimension.
16:29It would mean a lot to me to win Halloween Wars because I would just be so proud of myself
16:34for being self-taught and making it this far.
16:37The challenge on this show is to not focus on the super tiny, tiny details because this
16:43is going to be super time-consuming.
16:44You should pick me for Halloween Wars because I'm creative, I have a lot of energy, I'm
16:50happy with her, I'm ready, I'm ready to come to the show, compete, make the biggest and
16:55baddest, spookiest cake ever, and win this competition.
17:02Now let's jump up to the Pacific Northwest to meet somebody who might look a little familiar.
17:09Hey Halloween Wars, do you remember me?
17:11I'm Jamie Lauks, I'm from Seattle, Washington, and I've been on Halloween Wars twice as a
17:16cake artist, but this time, I want to come back as a sugar artist.
17:22I made it to the end on both seasons that I was on, but it was a loss both times.
17:28Nobody likes to get second place multiple times.
17:31It's a very frustrating feeling.
17:34In the finale of season 14, literally I had a piece falling apart in front of me, just
17:42cake collapsing, and I can't leave it that way.
17:46I can't leave that as my last impression on Halloween Wars.
17:49I need to come back and make up for that.
17:52Today I am making a spectacular insect Halloween-y spooky sugar showpiece, and I'm just going to
17:59add some extra details to it.
18:01Now that I've made my piece out of sugar, I can actually paint on it with alcohol and
18:06food colors.
18:08On my first season of Halloween Wars, I was definitely not a sugar artist, but I am a
18:14classically trained pastry chef.
18:16So that means I have been trained in sugar art, so I've always had the knowledge.
18:20I am a firm believer in constantly learning something new and keeping yourself creatively
18:27fresh and new and active.
18:29I'm going to do what's called a little bit of dry brushing.
18:32And so I will take a little bit of this paint onto my paintbrush here, and I'm going to actually
18:38dry it off on my towel.
18:40And then I can go in here and start doing accents.
18:44So the kind of art that I really enjoy making usually is kind of out of the box.
18:50Lots of color.
18:50I want something larger than life.
18:53The vast majority of my home is very colorful, very quirky.
18:57It makes a statement when you walk in.
19:00And, you know, I see a lot of this kind of coming out in my art.
19:05What's happening?
19:07It's disgusting.
19:09So I live at home with my husband and my two daughters.
19:11I also have two dogs, and we have two guinea pigs, and we have a fish tank loaded with
19:18little tiny fish.
19:19There they are.
19:20They're so little.
19:21It's just chaos.
19:23Evie has really funny long butt hair, which makes me laugh.
19:27Such long hair.
19:28Just on her butt.
19:30If you don't invite me back on again, you're going to have to deal with all of these guys.
19:35The guinea pigs are hungry, and they're almost out of lettuce.
19:39You need me on your show again, because I can do all of it.
19:45I am the kind of teammate that can help everywhere and really, like, lift my team up and make
19:51sure that we get it done.
19:53I need redemption.
19:55Will Jamie get her shot at redemption?
19:57We'll find out soon.
19:58Halloween Wars is more than just scare-raising displays.
20:11It's also home to some of the most deliciously disgusting edible creations you could ever imagine.
20:17So this is a caramelized onion and pear bonbon.
20:20This is a very bold, confident, assertive bite.
20:25Dig your fingers in the ground.
20:27Oh my gosh, what is happening?
20:30What is it?
20:31Oh my gosh.
20:32It's a blood orange gummy.
20:40It's gummy.
20:42Caramel popcorn.
20:43The idea was to create a box to create a surprise.
20:49Wow.
20:51What?
20:51So for the tasting element, we have a soy sauce salted caramel truffle, but it is infused
20:56with fresh lime zest and candied ginger to cut the sweetness.
21:00This bite is so trippy.
21:01It gives me sushi vibes.
21:03Yes.
21:04Right?
21:04Yes.
21:04It's just genius.
21:06I can't even with you.
21:07We have to go, because the judges are going to eat all of them.
21:10Thank you, guys.
21:11Who else can make your mouth water while they send chills down your spine?
21:15Let's find out as we head to Utah to meet a cake artist who thinks she has what it takes
21:19to get picked for the new season.
21:20My name is Kylie Holt.
21:22I am a custard cake artist from Clinton, Utah.
21:25By day, I am a Zumba instructor, and by night, I am a cake artist.
21:30When I was 11, my dad sent me to space camp in Florida, and I fell in love with space.
21:37And at that point, I decided I'm going to do whatever it takes to be an astronaut.
21:42I finally got accepted to the United States Air Force Academy, and I was miserable there.
21:48So I came home, I married my sweetheart, and I knew I needed something as a stay-at-home
21:55mom to keep me busy and to keep my creative juices flowing, and that's when I started
22:00picking up cakes, and it just took off from there.
22:02Whenever I do a piece, I always try and think about color.
22:07How are the colors going to work together?
22:09I'm just going to use a little bit of brown gel and a little bit of orange gel color,
22:15and I'm mixing this with a little bit of water.
22:18I may not have made it to space yet, but my cakes defy gravity, and I use the science
22:26and the math and everything that I learned to become an astronaut in my cake designing.
22:31I mean, cake is a lot of science.
22:34See how the paint is all gathered in one little puddle right there?
22:36That's okay, because when it dries, it will give a really neat look to these rocks.
22:42This is definitely not my first rodeo.
22:44I participated in several different competitions throughout the years.
22:48I won Best in Show in the Sugar Artists of Utah competition.
22:52I've also had my work printed in several magazines.
22:55So while I know I'm going to be competing against some amazing talent,
23:00I think they've got something coming for them.
23:02Will Kylie's cake skills earn her a place on one of our teams?
23:06We've still got a few more artists to meet.
23:08As our road trip continues, we make our way to Illinois to meet a sugar artist who really knows her stuff.
23:13My name is Becky Miranda.
23:16My full-time job is being a mom,
23:19and my part-time job is doing sugar art and teaching other people how to do sugar art.
23:25My business is 5'2 Baker because I'm a baker that is only 5'2".
23:31I always had to use my daughter's stepping stool.
23:35All the shelves are always too high for me to reach.
23:39Most of the year, I spend my time making beautiful things,
23:42some pretty sugar flowers, but it's the season.
23:44So we're going to work on something a little more spooky,
23:48and we're going to create a little friend for my giant sugar spider here.
23:53I think what makes my sugar art different and unique are the mediums that I use.
23:59I actually created my own flour paste, so I'm most known for my flexible flours.
24:07You'll notice that as you roll it out, it's pretty translucent.
24:13You can get it really thin.
24:15You could actually rip pieces off and eat them.
24:19Just as an example here go, some snow drops that I made, some unpainted morning glories.
24:28So you want to be careful when you're doing this and just do not full pumps,
24:32but you just want to do little micro pumps so that you can see the ball growing.
24:39I am comfortable working with tons of different mediums, tons of different ways,
24:45and I haven't gone to school, so there is no just one right way for me to do things.
24:51It's allowed me to really explore and find my way and do things that other people normally would not do.
24:58If you pick me for Halloween Wars, you're not going to be disappointed.
25:03You're going to see a lot of cool things.
25:06It would mean the world to me to be on Halloween Wars,
25:09to know that everything I'm doing is valued and is worth it and I'm good.
25:16Halloween Wars, I can't wait to show everyone what I can do.
25:20Now that's what I call a sugar spider.
25:23But is Becky the scream of the crop?
25:25We'll find out soon enough.
25:26Next up, we head to the heart of New York City to meet a Halloween-obsessed cake artist
25:30who's big on the creed factor.
25:33My name is Serena Harnett.
25:34I am a first-generation Cambodian-American.
25:37I was actually born in a refugee camp there, but I basically grew up in the United States.
25:42Halloween, it was actually something that I will always remember, especially as a kid.
25:46Dressing up, trick-or-treating, egging people, running away from Belize,
25:50and those are things I absolutely love doing.
25:52My husband and I moved to the city about 10 years ago.
25:55Cake design and decorating is just something I picked up on the fly.
25:59I'm totally self-taught.
26:01I do have an art background, though.
26:03I studied it in college, so it's really helpful for me.
26:06The name of my business is Deadly Dame Cakes.
26:08And I just came up with it because my husband and I are very much into the pin-up community
26:13and tiki and whatnot.
26:16And so it's just something I conjured up at 3 o'clock in the morning, so that's how I came about.
26:22This is where the glam was, friends.
26:23We have here our vintage and faux skulls, skirts, shirts, heels, a collection of them.
26:35All of the dresses, various colors.
26:39And of course, here are all of the bags that I reach for on the daily.
26:42So as you can see here, my beloved pumpkin head is my favorite, so he's at the forefront.
26:49So I absolutely love him.
26:50My specialty is horror-themed and Halloween-themed cakes, but I do everything.
26:57It would mean the absolute world to me to be picked for Halloween Awards.
27:01It is the Olympics of Halloween.
27:04I'm bringing the spook factor.
27:06I'm bringing the sculpt.
27:07I'm bringing the artistry.
27:08And I'm bringing myself.
27:10And that is why I'm going to win Halloween Wars.
27:22Sometimes the scares in Halloween Wars aren't just our team's creepy creations.
27:27When pumpkin, cake, or sugar go bump in the night, the results can be terrifying.
27:33I have a breach.
27:34Oh, no.
27:34Oh, I think she's fixing it.
27:38It's falling apart, guys.
27:40I'm so sorry.
27:41I'm so sorry.
27:42Oh, my God.
27:43That leg is on the ground.
27:45Damn.
27:45Oh, my gosh.
27:47Hold it.
27:47Hold it.
27:48Hold it.
27:48Oh, my God.
27:50The cake is falling.
27:51Oh, no.
27:53What just fell?
27:54His lamp.
27:55The lamp craps.
27:56Yeah, but it looks messy.
27:57Oh, no.
27:58The chain broke.
27:59The chain just fell.
28:00Oh, I don't even want to look.
28:02No, don't.
28:02I don't even want to look.
28:03I decided to just quickly get some black buttercream and start drawing the face on for him.
28:11No.
28:11Oh, no.
28:13No.
28:14The whole thing fell off.
28:16Oh, I feel so bad for Matt.
28:18Sure, you can't stop gravity.
28:19But we're looking for artists with the skills and drive to recover and take their teens to new heights.
28:25Hi, my name's Kimberly Rivers.
28:26I'm from Farmington, Utah.
28:28So I started doing wedding cakes and sugar about five years ago.
28:32I just started out making cakes for my kids for their birthdays.
28:35And then neighbors started asking me.
28:37And then I decided, you know, if I'm going to start selling them, I should probably make an official business.
28:40And from there, it just started to grow.
28:42So we're going to start off by melting some isomalt.
28:45We decided we're going to make a purple pumpkin.
28:49And as I spread the isomalt out, it will start to cool.
28:54I draw a lot of inspiration, actually, from my friends.
28:56We have a lot of fun getting together and doing what we call edible photo shoots.
29:01And so we'll dress up in character and we'll create all of our accessories, jewelry, just different items that we can use to go along with our characters.
29:08And this kind of just takes practice of knowing where it needs to be placed.
29:13Stick that in there.
29:14Halloween, when I was a kid, was the most fun holiday ever.
29:19And now as a mom, I want my kids to have the same experience.
29:22Just the one night that you can go out and just kind of just be crazy.
29:25Here, let's all get some chocolate chips.
29:26Here.
29:27You can all have some.
29:28I'm going to throw one and catch it in my mouth.
29:29I'm a stay-at-home mom, which is actually my most favorite job in the whole world.
29:33I love my kids so much.
29:35And we also love to bake together.
29:37My kids love to come in the kitchen and help me make all kinds of things.
29:39Usually on Sundays is our bake day.
29:41Mom, don't eat the chocolate chips.
29:45I want to do Halloween Wars because I love pushing myself to the next level.
29:49I definitely want to win and just kick everyone's butts.
29:52You should pick me for Halloween Wars because I'm first off willing to work really hard.
29:57I'm going to put in all the energy that I have and all my knowledge and to make the piece as best as I can.
30:03Halloween Wars, I am coming for you.
30:05I want to win this.
30:06I got all the skills.
30:07I got the sugar.
30:07I got the cake.
30:09And you better watch out.
30:10Does Kimberly have the skills to get picked?
30:12We'll find out soon.
30:15Now we make our way to Chicago to meet a pumpkin carver who might be young but knows how to bring the scares.
30:22Halloween Wars, what are you doing here?
30:26Yes, kiddin', you can come in.
30:28Okay, come on.
30:29My name is Ethan Anderson.
30:33I am 23 years old and I am a full-time artist.
30:37I consider myself a multidisciplinary artist.
30:39I do sculpture.
30:41I do carving.
30:42I do illustration, painting, and primarily animation.
30:44All right, I'm using this pointy loop to etch out some bricks right now.
30:52I started carving pumpkins since my parents let me pick up a knife.
30:56And then I saw the first season of Halloween Wars and that skyrocketed me into practicing as much as I could.
31:04When I first started competing in carving competitions, I think I was just viewed as, like, the young guy.
31:10But after having some experience in competitions under my belt, I think I've gained the respect of all of my peers.
31:17What do you think about this?
31:19Beautiful.
31:20Beautiful.
31:20I think I'm a combination of both creative and incredibly thoughtful, smart, and methodical.
31:28What makes me the best for a pumpkin carving competition is, like, well, I'm the tallest and the strongest and the prettiest.
31:35So, put that on top of my pumpkin carving skills, like, they should all leave before they show up.
31:41What are we doing here?
31:42Come on now.
31:43Before, I watched Halloween Wars and then was inspired to go sculpt.
31:47I had only ever done drawings and paintings.
31:51And so, really being able to compete and having the chance to win would be such a full-circle moment to show where that brought me.
31:59All right, girls, what do you think?
32:01Wow, it's so amazing.
32:04I'm bringing my creativity, my technical skill, my winning personality, my charming good looks.
32:08There's nothing more that you could ever want.
32:10Here I am.
32:11I'm going, you know, the next winner of Halloween Wars.
32:13I'm going to come to Halloween Wars more prepared, more confident, and more excited than anybody else.
32:18I'm not scared of anything, but they should all be scared of me.
32:24Halloween Wars.
32:25Search for the next crop of cake artists, sugar artists, and pumpkin carvers who dream of being picked for the new season.
32:32Just keeps on trucking as we hit the road to Grand Junction, Colorado to meet a pumpkin fanatic who knows how to think big.
32:39Hello, I'm Willie Toos.
32:40Welcome to Western Colorado Botanic Goddess.
32:43Come on in.
32:44This is where I create the largest pumpkin sculptures in Western Colorado.
32:49I am a professional pumpkin carver.
32:50I got into pumpkin carving 15 years ago.
32:53I grew up in Cancun, New Mexico.
32:55My dad was a chef, and he used to do small carvings with vegetables.
33:00When I was eight years old, I started carving fruit and vegetables.
33:04Watermelon was one of my favorite fruits to carve.
33:06That's what got me into pumpkin carving.
33:09This is our first pumpkin of the season, and we're ready to carve.
33:12I used a couple of tools.
33:15These are clay tools, but they are reinforced to be used for pumpkins, and it's actually sharpened all the way down so it can go through the pumpkins easy.
33:25When Halloween season comes, I create really large sculptures here at the gardens.
33:31We use 1,000 pumpkins to make this happen.
33:35This year at the gardens, I'm hoping to create larger-than-life sculptures with 1,200 pumpkins for everyone to see.
33:42This is one of my favorite tools to do little details on the pumpkins because it lets you add little wrinkles on the skin.
33:49And you can go deep with it, but without cutting a lot of the skin of the pumpkin.
33:54I am a single dad.
33:55This is my son, Willie, my best friend.
33:58My son is 18 years old.
34:00I introduced him to pumpkin carving.
34:02He actually helps me with the projects that we do every year.
34:06Oh, like a boat?
34:07Yeah, with a boat sinking.
34:09That's a good idea.
34:10Working with my son, Willie, definitely helps me and motivates me, too.
34:14So when this type of competition comes, I always want to go win and show him everything that's possible.
34:21I have been in Halloween wars before.
34:23I really enjoy the competition.
34:25Oh, my gosh.
34:26What is it?
34:30That's awesome.
34:31I was so close to winning, I made it to the final.
34:34This is the year that I really want to go and bring the prize home.
34:39Halloween wars should pick me because I bring a lot of passion in each work that I do.
34:45And then for two, the style of work that I bring in, it's kind of unique.
34:49Halloween wars.
34:50I'm coming for the win this time.
34:53Now we head back to Florida to meet a paralegal turned sugar artist who serves up detailed sugar delicacies with a distinctly Florida flair.
35:01I'm Kelly Chivary.
35:03I live in Wellington, Florida.
35:05I really got into sugar art by making cakes for my children when they were small.
35:11And I was really fascinated with isomalt and how versatile it is.
35:16My sugar art is different because I really like to have a little nod to Florida in all my pieces.
35:23Today, I'm just finishing up my lovely Merdusa, we'll call her, my Medusa mermaid.
35:31So I frequently get up very early in the morning and work on sugar and cake projects before I start work.
35:39At eight, I'll use a variety of edible paint and petal dust.
35:43And then when I get off work again, I do sugar work and cake.
35:49Just like a mullet, she's going to be business in the front, party in the back.
35:52I really enjoy the gory aspect of Halloween because I think it's really fun to have, like, a dessert imposter.
36:02It's fun to me to make something that looks like a gory finger, but it's a really tasty treat.
36:08Hands up my piece.
36:09Being on Halloween Wars is a bucket list item for sure.
36:13She is ready for her close-up.
36:15Halloween Wars, I'm coming.
36:18That's pretty creepy.
36:19But is it creepy enough to earn a spot on one of our teams?
36:23We're about to find out.
36:24Coming up, we'll find out whose skills are terrifying enough to get picked for the new season and...
36:30Get a special sneak peek when the road to Halloween Wars continues.
36:39Halloween Wars is more than just scare-raising displays.
36:43It's also home to some of the most deliciously disgusting edible creations you could ever imagine.
36:49So this is a caramelized onion and pear bonbon.
36:53This is a very bold, confident, assertive bite.
36:58Dig your fingers in the grass.
36:59Oh my gosh, what is happening?
37:02What is it?
37:03Oh my gosh.
37:08It's a blood orange gummy.
37:13It's gummy.
37:15The idea was to create a box to create a surprise.
37:22Wow.
37:23What?
37:24So for the tasting element, we have a soy sauce salted caramel truffle,
37:27but it is infused with fresh lime zest and candied ginger to cut the sweetness.
37:32This bite is so trippy.
37:34It gives me sushi vibes.
37:35Yes.
37:35Right?
37:36Yes.
37:36It's just genius.
37:38I can't even with you.
37:39We have to go because the judges are going to eat all of them.
37:42Thank you guys.
37:43Who else can make your mouth water while they send chills down your spine?
37:47Let's find out as we head to Utah to meet a cake artist who thinks she has what it takes
37:51to get picked for the new season.
37:53My name is Kylie Holt.
37:54I am a custom cake artist from Clinton, Utah.
37:57By day, I am a Zumba instructor.
37:59And by night, I am a cake artist.
38:02When I was 11, my dad sent me to space camp in Florida.
38:06And I fell in love with space.
38:09And at that point, I decided I'm going to do whatever it takes to be an astronaut.
38:14I finally got accepted to the United States Air Force Academy.
38:18And I was miserable there.
38:21So I came home.
38:22I married my sweetheart.
38:24And I knew I needed something as a stay-at-home mom to keep me busy and to keep my creative juices
38:30flowing.
38:31And that's when I started picking up cakes.
38:33And it just took off from there.
38:34Whenever I do a piece, I always try and think about color.
38:39How are the colors going to work together?

44:31I decided to just quickly get some black buttercream and start drawing the face on for
44:36him.
44:36No.
44:38Oh, no.
44:39Oh, no.
44:40No.
44:41The whole thing fell off.
44:43Oh, I feel so bad for Matt.
44:45Sure, you can't stop gravity, but we're looking for artists with the skills and drive to recover
44:50and take their teams to new heights.
44:52Hi, my name's Kimberly Rivers.
44:54I'm from Farmington, Utah.
44:56So I started doing wedding cakes and sugar about five years ago.
45:00I just started out making cakes for my kids for their birthdays, and then neighbors started
45:03asking me.
45:04And then I decided, you know, if I'm going to start selling them, I should probably make
45:07an official business.
45:08And from there, it just started to grow.
45:09So we're going to start off by melting some isomalt.
45:13We decided we're going to make a purple pumpkin.
45:17As I spread the isomalt out, it will start to cool.
45:21I draw a lot of inspiration, actually, from my friends.
45:24We have a lot of fun getting together and doing what we call edible photo shoots.
45:29And so we'll dress up in character, and we'll create all of our accessories, jewelry, just
45:33different items that we can use to go along with our characters.
45:35And this kind of just takes practice of knowing where it needs to be placed.
45:41Stick that in there.
45:43Halloween, when I was a kid, was the most fun holiday ever.
45:46And now as a mom, I want my kids to have the same experience.
45:49Just the one night that you can go out and just kind of just be crazy.
45:52Here, let's all get some chocolate chips.
45:54Here.
45:55You can all have some.
45:55I'm going to throw one and candy in my mouth.
45:57I'm a stay-at-home mom, which is actually my most favorite job in the whole world.
46:01I love my kids so much.
46:02And we also love to bake together.
46:04My kids love to come in the kitchen and help me make all kinds of things.
46:07Usually on Sundays is our bake day.
46:09Mom, don't eat the chocolate chips.
46:12I want to do Halloween Wars because I love pushing myself to the next level.
46:16I definitely want to win and just kick everyone's bus.
46:20You should pick me for Halloween Wars because I'm, first off, willing to work really hard.
46:24I'm going to put in all the energy that I have and all my knowledge and to make the piece
46:29as best as I can.
46:30Halloween Wars, I am coming for you.
46:32I want to win this.
46:33I got all the skills.
46:34I got the sugar.
46:35I got the cake.
46:36And you better watch out.
46:37Does Kimberly have the skills to get picked?
46:40We'll find out soon.
46:42Now we make our way to Chicago to meet a pumpkin carver who might be young, but knows how to
46:47bring the scares.
46:48Halloween Wars.
46:49Halloween Wars?
46:50What are you doing here?
46:51Yes, kiddin', you can come in.
46:55Okay, come on.
46:59My name is Ethan Anderson.
47:01I am 23 years old and I am a full-time artist.
47:04I consider myself a multidisciplinary artist.
47:07I do sculpture, I do carving, I do illustration, painting, and primarily animation.
47:12All right, I'm using this pointy loop to etch out some bricks right now.
47:19I started carving pumpkins since my parents let me pick up a knife.
47:24And then I saw the first season of Halloween Wars and that skyrocketed me into practicing
47:30as much as I could.
47:32When I first started competing in carving competitions, I think I was just viewed as
47:36like the young guy.
47:37But after having some experience in competitions under my belt, I think I've gained the respect
47:42of all of my peers.
47:45Well, what do you think about this?
47:46Beautiful.
47:47Beautiful.
47:48I think I'm a combination of both creative and incredibly thoughtful, smart, and methodical.
47:55What makes me the best for a pumpkin carving competition is like, well, I'm the tallest
48:00and the strongest and the prettiest.
48:02So, put that on top of my pumpkin carving skills, like they should all leave before they
48:07show up.
48:08What are we doing here?
48:09Come on now.
48:11Before, I watched Halloween Wars and then was inspired to go sculpt.
48:15I had only ever done drawings and paintings.
48:18And so, really being able to compete and having the chance to win would be such a full circle
48:23moment to show where that brought me.
48:26All right, girls, what do you think?
48:29Wow, it's so amazing.
48:31I'm bringing my creativity, my technical skill, my winning personality, my charming good looks.
48:36There's nothing more that you could ever want.
48:37Here I am.
48:38I'm going to be the next winner of Halloween Wars.
48:40I'm going to come to Halloween Wars more prepared, more confident, and more excited
48:45than anybody else.
48:46I'm not scared of anything, but they should all be scared of me.
48:51Halloween Wars.
48:53Search for the next crop of cake artists, sugar artists, and pumpkin carvers who dream of being
48:58picked for the new season.
48:59Everyone just keeps on trucking as we hit the road to Grand Junction, Colorado to meet
49:03a pumpkin fanatic who knows how to think big.
49:06Hello, I'm Willie Toos.
49:08Welcome to Western Colorado Botanic Gardens.
49:10Come on in.
49:11This is where I create the largest pumpkin sculptures in Western Colorado.
49:16I am a professional pumpkin carver.
49:18I got into pumpkin carving 15 years ago.
49:21I grew up in Cancun, Mexico.
49:23My dad was a chef, and he used to do small carvings with vegetables.
49:28When I was eight years old, I started carving fruit and vegetables.
49:31Watermelon was one of my favorite fruits to carve.
49:34That's what got me into pumpkin carving.
49:35This is our first pumpkin of the season, and we're ready to carve.
49:40I use a couple of tools.
49:42These are clay tools, but they are reinforced to be used for pumpkins, and it's actually
49:48sharpened all the way down so it can go through the pumpkins easy.
49:53When Halloween season comes, I create really large sculptures here at the gardens.
49:59We use a thousand pumpkins to make this happen.
50:02This year at the gardens, I'm hoping to create larger-than-life sculptures with 1,200 pumpkins
50:08for everyone to see.
50:09This is one of my favorite tools to do little details on the pumpkins, because it lets you
50:14add little wrinkles on the skin, and you can go deep with it, but without cutting a lot
50:19of the skin of the pumpkin.
50:21I am a single dad.
50:22This is my son, Willy, my best friend.
50:25My son is 18 years old.
50:28I introduced him to pumpkin carving.
50:29He actually helps me with the projects that we do every year.
50:33Oh, like a boat.
50:34Yeah, or a boat sinking.
50:36That's a good idea.
50:37Working with my son, Willy, definitely helps me and motivates me, too.
50:42So when this type of competition comes, I always want to go win and show him everything
50:47is possible.
50:48I have been in Halloween Wars before.
50:50I really enjoy the competition.
50:52Oh, my gosh.
50:53What is it?
50:57That's awesome.
50:59I was so close to winning, I made it to the final.
51:02This is the year that I really want to go and bring the prize home.
51:06Halloween Wars should pick me because I bring a lot of passion in each work that I do.
51:12And then for two, this style of work that I bring in, it's kind of unique.
51:16Halloween Wars.
51:18I'm coming for the win this time.
51:20Now we head back to Florida to meet a paralegal turned sugar artist who serves up detailed sugar
51:26delicacies with a distinctly Florida flair.
51:29I'm Kelly Shivery.
51:29I live in Wellington, Florida.
51:32I really got into sugar art by making cakes for my children when they were small.
51:39And I was really fascinated with isomalt and how versatile it is.
51:44My sugar art is different because I really like to have a little nod to Florida in all
51:50my pieces.
51:51Today, I'm just finishing up my lovely Merdusa, we'll call her, my Medusa mermaid.
51:59So I frequently get up very early in the morning and work on sugar and cake projects before
52:05I start work.
52:06At eight, I'll use a variety of edible paint and petal dust.
52:11And then when I get off work again, I do sugar work and cake.
52:16Just like a mullet, she's going to be business in the front, party in the back.
52:21I really enjoy the gory aspect of Halloween because I think it's really fun to have like
52:28a dessert imposter.
52:30It's fun to me to make something that looks like a gory finger, but it's a really tasty
52:34treat.
52:35Here's my piece.
52:37Being on Halloween Wars is a bucket list item for sure.
52:40She is ready for her close-up.
52:43Halloween Wars, I'm coming.
52:45That's pretty creepy.
52:47But is it creepy enough to earn a spot on one of our teams?
52:50We're about to find out.
52:52Coming up, we'll find out whose skills are terrifying enough to get picked for the new
52:56season and get a special sneak peek when the road to Halloween Wars continues.
53:02It's the last stop on our road trip to meet the greatest cake artists, sugar artists, and
53:11pumpkin carvers in the country who dream of competing in Halloween Wars 15.
53:16What better place to stop than Anaheim, California to meet a talented sugar artist whose skills
53:21are downright scary.
53:23I'm Andy de la Cruz.
53:24I am a pastry chef here at the Weston Anaheim Resort.
53:28I have been making cakes and baking cookies and whatnot for 30 years.
53:33I worked in restaurants, and then from a restaurant I worked at a hotel, and then never left the
53:37hotel industry after that.
53:38And so I learned a lot from the people that I work with and the chefs that I worked under.
53:42I enjoy designing cakes.
53:45Look at just any kind of art, whether it's pictures or sculptures, and translate that into
53:50desserts is very unique for me.
53:53Remember, the magic number is 165.
53:56I've been working with sugar for years now.
53:59Sugar work is its own art in itself because you're dealing with temperature and you're dealing
54:04with time.
54:05I feel like chocolate is a little bit more forgiving than sugar work, and you're dealing
54:10with heat.
54:11And your fingertips can only handle so much heat.
54:14By doing this, this also helps you to capture more of the details.
54:20So for Halloween, we create a lobby display for our guests to enjoy.
54:25We take themes from movies or whatnot, and we just create this little piece of scenery,
54:31and it's all made out of chocolate and candy and whatnot.
54:34Nothing is supposed to be perfect, so in life, nothing is perfect.
54:38In nature, nothing is perfect, so it's one of the things I like about trees.
54:44You have to pick me for Halloween Wars because not only will you get a person that knows how
54:49to work with a lot of mediums, but I work great under pressure.
54:54I love what I do.
54:56I am very hungry, and I want to win this so bad.
54:59I'm going to bring everything.
55:00Nothing is going to be held back, and I'm going to go for it.
55:03Watch out.
55:04Halloween Wars has crisscrossed the country in search of the most talented cake, sugar,
55:10and pumpkin artists who dream of competing in the new season.
55:14Now it's time to find out which of the artists we met tonight will join this year's crop of
55:18Halloween warriors.
55:20From our pumpkin carvers, we got Willie and Rebecca.
55:24Congratulations.
55:24Congratulations.
55:25You're going to be on Halloween Wars.
55:28No way!
55:29Oh my god, that's amazing!
55:31Oh goodness, I can't wait to show off my pumpkin carving skills.
55:35This is going to be so cool!
55:37For our sugar artists, Kelly.
55:39Really?
55:40You're not pranking me, are you?
55:43Mills.
55:44Yeah!
55:45I'm back, baby!
55:46Kimberly.
55:48And Jamie.
55:49Yes!
55:50Woo!
55:50And from the cake artists, Natalie.
55:53I told you I was good at this.
55:54Serena.
55:56Oh my gosh!
55:59Kylie.
55:59Oh my gosh, I am so excited.
56:01This has been a bucket list show of mine all of these years.
56:05I am so excited.
56:06I finally made it on the show.
56:08And Tanisha.
56:09Oh my god, no way.
56:10Are you for real?
56:12That means Andy, Jessica, Rachel, Becky, Ethan, and Brian didn't quite make it.
56:18But they're still scary good artists.
56:20Now let's meet this year's terrifying teens.
56:24Poisonous Perfection.
56:26The Undercakers.
56:27Crumb Creepers.
56:29Graveyard Shift.
56:31Terrifying Trio.
56:33Wicked Sculptors.
56:35And Oven Coven.
56:37These ghoulish groups are stacked and ready to kill it on this season of Halloween Wars.
56:45Seven teams of the best pumpkin, cake, and sugar artists battle it out in the most wicked season of Halloween Wars yet.
56:55Oh my god.
56:56I'm getting big fight energy.
56:58This is the first time I've ever seen anything like this.
57:01Halloween Wars is the Olympic for pumpkin carvers and cake artists.
57:05Their designs will be nightmare inducing.
57:07When in doubt, let's throw blood on it.
57:09Unsettling.
57:10I'm so gross.
57:11I was triggered.
57:12And there will be plenty of terrifying treats.
57:15These are gorgeous.
57:18It's delicious.
57:19It's creative.
57:20This dessert will haunt me for the rest of my life.
57:23The challenges will be more brutal than ever before.
57:26We want you to take a stab at a Halloween-style true crime.
57:30I know it's Halloween Wars, but yikes.
57:32The Boogeyman's Lair.
57:34Okay, we're freaking out.
57:36A creature-on-creature contest.
57:39Did you see the thighs on that werewolf?
57:41Yes.
57:42And the misery will be more horrifying than anything you've seen yet.
57:47Something's burning.
57:48Oh, oh.
57:48In the end, only one team will be declared Halloween Wars champions.
57:52If we don't get the cake character on, we're going home.
57:54And walk away with $25,000.
57:57Why is he so slow?
57:58We can't all be winners, okay?
58:00Hop, hop.
58:01Well, that's the best eyeball I've ever had.
