01:08Former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa faced off in their first general
01:16election debate on Thursday night. And, with no live audience, supporters flooded 50th Street outside
01:2330 Rock, cheering on their preferred candidates with campaign signs and lobbing verbal attacks at their
01:29opponents. With less than three weeks until election day, the debate gave voters their clearest side-by-side
01:35look yet at the candidates vying to lead the nation's largest city.
01:40On the debate stage, candidates made commitments to delivering affordability and public safety for New Yorkers.
01:47Outside the venue, while speaking to Fox News Digital,
01:50Mamdani supporters told Fox News Digital they are ready for change, while those cheering on Cuomo said
01:56they were voting for him for his experience.
01:59Very experienced. Emily, a Cuomo supporter who lives in Brooklyn, told Fox News Digital.
02:05I feel that he is going to keep our city safe and that he is going to keep small business alive and
02:11say that he has he just has the right amount of experience for the job.
02:17New York State Senator Robert Jackson, who was cheering on Mamdani from
02:24across the 15th Street, said Cuomo already had his chance to deliver for New Yorkers as governor,
02:35telling Fox News Digital Cuomo was not the leader that we wanted. He never came through on it.
02:42On the flip side, Jackson prized Mamdani for getting New Yorkers excited about politics,
02:48explaining that he loves Mamdani, straight forward, and no-nonsense policies.
02:54However, both Emily and Anthony Brown, a bronze union worker, said Mamdani's policies are driving
03:02their support for Cuomo. Giving away free stuff is not the answer, Brown said.
03:07Telling Fox News Digital, he appreciates how Cuomo supports union workers, wants to build
03:13infrastructure in New York City and make it a safer place to live. Emily added that Mamdani is not
03:21experienced and his policies seem to extreme. Nothing's free. Giving free stuff means the hardworking
03:29people's taxes and are going to pay for the free stuff, Brown said. There's nothing free. It never
03:36works out. It might be a good-selling campaign pitch. But I didn't think it's the right thing.
03:44Brown said he could not understand why members of the Hotel and Gaming Trade Council, a union supporting
03:50hospitality workers, who were accused of the street chairing for Mamdani. Ahead of the debate,
03:58the New York City Police Department designated the three respective plans for supporters together.
04:05I don't know exactly what they are doing over there, he said. They should
04:12be on the side with the rest of the union workers, but everyone scored their own opinion. Their entire
04:19campaign was denied. They were denied. Mamdani met with a roundtable of union workers at the
04:35Southeast Employees International Union Headquarters Friday morning in Manhattan.
