Darcy Graham injury update as Edinburgh Rugby thrash Benetton at Hive Stadium
Transcript
00:01Hello, it's Graeme Bean from the Scotsman at Hive Stadium, where Edinburgh had just beaten Benetton 43-0 for their first win of the season in the United Rugby Championship.
00:12And a pretty convincing affair it was to score seven tries against the Italian opponents who were missing several key players, it has to be said.
00:19But it was an impressive win nonetheless for Sean Everett's team, who had struggled in the early stages, losing two matches away from home to Zebra and Munster.
00:28Narrowly, but they came good tonight. It was the first home game of the season from the postponement of the Ulster match a couple of weeks ago.
00:36And there was a good crowd inside Hive Stadium, just shy of 7,000.
00:41Duan van der Merwer got the ball rolling for the home side with the opening try after five minutes.
00:46Ewan Ashman got the second after 10 minutes and Edinburgh were 14-0 up, both the tries converted by Cammie Scott, who played well and had a rare start at standoff.
00:57He had a big role to play in the first try and looked good throughout, actually.
01:02Benetton came into the game for Spell midway through the first half, but Edinburgh came back finishing strongly with a try from Darcy Gray on the first of two he scored in the night.
01:13He was in the thick of the action all evening. He went down with a knee injury in 25 minutes, which looked very worrying.
01:20He needed treatment on three separate occasions, but he did play the whole match.
01:25A particular concern, not only for Edinburgh, but for Scotland as well, with the Autumn Nations series just around the corner.
01:30But he managed to play on and he said afterwards a TV interview that he felt OK, put some ice on at half-time and was able to play the whole game.
01:38And he actually scored Edinburgh's final try at the end, running in from half-way.
01:43So a good night for Darcy Graham.
01:45But Edinburgh did lose Duhan van der Merle early in the second half.
01:48He got off with a bruised heel.
01:50Sean Everett said afterwards that he thinks he'll be OK for next week's game against Cardiff,
01:54which suggests he should also be fine for Scotland for the Autumn Games, which begin a fortnight on Saturday against the USA,
02:03with the big one against New Zealand to follow the week after that.
02:07And there was other tries came through Dylan Richardson, who scored two, his first for the club,
02:12and Pearce O'Connor also got one, his first for the club too.
02:16And then Magnus Bradbury, who was the man of the match, also got on the score sheet.
02:21So seven tries in total, and a convincing win.
02:24Final score here at Hive Stadium, Edinburgh 43, Benetton 0.
