00:00George told me before.
00:05Hey guys, let's start with Dan.
00:07Thank you, George. Afternoon, Rupert.
00:09I know you always talk about how much in contact you are with the leadership here,
00:13the likes of Sir Jim, Jason.
00:15Sir Jim had some really positive comments for you over the break,
00:18really backing you. How do you feel when you see those type of comments?
00:22He tells me all the time, sometimes with a message after games.
00:28But you know, I know, and Jim knows that football is not like that.
00:33The most important thing is the next game.
00:36You cannot control, even with owners, you cannot control the next day in football.
00:41So I know that, but it's really good to hear that.
00:49Also because of the noise, but he tells me and Omar and Jason tell me that all the time.
00:56In terms of your vision for this club, does it help when they say that?
01:04Because they've also said or Omar said that it didn't start the way that everybody expected,
01:11including you.
01:12And nobody knows how long it's going to take.
01:14Nobody knows what happens on Sunday.
01:17Does it help that you know that they believe in what you are trying to do?
01:24First of all, I can feel it.
01:26It's not just that thing that people talk, but I feel it in every day.
01:32And again, sometimes the pressure that I put on the team on myself is so much bigger than them.
01:38I know that is going to take a while, but I don't want to think like that.
01:41I said that last year.
01:44But of course, again, it's really good to hear that.
01:48I think it helps also our fans to understand that the leadership understand that it's going to take a while.
01:55But at the same moment, I don't like that because we'll give a feeling that we have time to work things out.
02:04So I don't want that feeling here in our club.
02:08Again, the most important thing is the next game.
02:11It's good to feel the support, but we need to prove in football,
02:14and especially in the big clubs, that in every weekend we are ready to win games.
02:20Hi, Ruben.
02:21This will be the 100th match at Anfield between Liverpool and Manchester United.
02:26It's a game with an awful lot of history.
02:29Your history, I think your first visit there as a player maybe could have been better,
02:33but your most recent was possibly one of your highlights here so far?
02:37Yeah, I remember we played well.
02:42It was a draw.
02:43I was really upset at the end of the game because we proved in that day that we can compete against any opponent.
02:53I know that it's special for our club.
02:55I know that they are fighting all the time for the titles, the number of titles.
02:59I know what it means to the fans.
03:03But again, it's one game that we need to prove again that we are playing better.
03:09I think we are playing better.
03:11We need to do better in both boxes.
03:15So it's one more game that we need to win.
03:19Hi, Ruben.
03:20The results and the performances against the so-called bigger teams have been quite good since you got here.
03:25What do you think the difference has been in those games compared to some of the other games?
03:30Maybe.
03:31Maybe.
03:32I don't know, but maybe the expectations.
03:34When you have to win and the response to winning, it's so much harder to play like that.
03:40That's why when you play in big clubs, you need to win every match, especially when people are expecting you to win.
03:48And we have some difficulties sometimes to deal with that when people and you guys expect not Manchester United to win that game.
04:00Maybe it's easier for the players to perform and we need to change that.
04:05But to change that, we need to have confidence to win more games, to have more points, to feel more free to play the game.
04:11So I think that is the main reason.
04:16Hi, Ruben.
04:17I think there are seven players who didn't train us.
04:20Some of them were rested, had additional days off.
04:22But which players do you know won't be available for the weekend's game?
04:27Licha?
04:28It's near, but it's almost returning to the trainings with the team.
04:36Mas Raui, I don't know.
04:39The rest of the guys, the national team, they are ready.
04:42But if you saw the games, some players play in Japan.
04:48So we need to be careful to give more time.
04:50Diogo didn't play the last game he was here.
04:52Bruno played 62 minutes.
04:54We gave one more day.
04:56We try to balance everything to have everyone ready, but they are ready.
04:59The guys are returning from national teams.
05:01They are ready to play.
05:03Hi, Ruben.
05:06When your goalkeeper puts in a performance like that on debut, the United fans are calling
05:11him the new Peter Schmeich after less than 90 minutes.
05:16Does that make him impossible to drop even for a big game like this?
05:19No, nothing is impossible.
05:22You have to prove during the week, but of course he did a great job.
05:26It is possible that he is going to start the game.
05:29The first impression in this club is really important.
05:35To maintain the level is even more important and really difficult.
05:40So he is not Schmeichel yet.
05:43He is a young guy with talent.
05:46He showed a lot of composure and the fans liked it.
05:51But again, we need to prove that it is in the past.
05:53We need to prove it in the next game.
05:56Ruben, Sir Jim was quite critical of the academy in his interview last week.
06:00He said that standards had slipped.
06:02You have been here nearly a year now.
06:04What is your assessment of the health of the United Academy?
06:08I think we can always improve.
06:11I am not the best guy because I am here for a year
06:14and our results are not being so good.
06:17So I am not going to be the guy that is going to say
06:21that the academy is not in good shape.
06:23What I know is that, especially nowadays with the fair play,
06:27with the feeling of the club, the academy is really important.
06:30We need to take care of that.
06:32We need also to give the right conditions for all the people that we have here
06:36to do a better job because sometimes it is not just you are doing a bad job,
06:41but we need to see what kind of conditions they have to do a great job.
06:45We are paying attention to that.
06:47We are bringing people.
06:49We are always in contact with Travis, with all the kids,
06:55trying to bring the right kids for the training,
06:58trying to make that relationship with the academy.
07:02So I think if you look at our club, we are trying to improve.
07:06We have a lot to improve, not just in the academy,
07:09but in all aspects of our club.
07:12Last question in this section for Richard.
07:14Hi Ruben, you talked earlier about how Liverpool and United are competing
07:19for the same number of titles and the two clubs are always going to be compared with each other.
07:23When you have a season like last season when Liverpool finish so far ahead of United,
07:32how do you address that and what becomes a realistic aim in terms of closing the gap to them?
07:38That I don't know. Sometimes things change really fast.
07:41But if you see the history of both clubs,
07:44you can feel that sometimes you have one club that is winning, winning, winning,
07:48and the other club is having a bad moment.
07:51That happened with Liverpool when Manchester United was winning everything.
07:54And that happened with Manchester United when Liverpool was winning everything.
07:58So we just have to acknowledge that to be really honest with the fans.
08:05But we can win any game.
08:07So if we think about just winning the next game,
08:10that is the most important thing.
08:11We can win the next game.
08:14If we are going to fight and to be at the same level of Liverpool in the future,
08:22that is the idea.
08:23I don't know how long it is going to take.
08:25I will get it!
08:28I will take!
08:31To film!
