00:00Nestled in the scenic Milgiri hills of Tabarnad, Ooty kicked off its Christmas celebrations with a traditional cake mixing ceremony at a private hotel on Thursday.
00:17Various dry fruits including almonds, cashews, raisins, dates, dried cherries along with multiple types of wines were mixed together by the hotel staff and tourists staying there.
00:30The mixture will now be sealed in containers and aged for 50 to 60 days before being combined with flour and eggs to prepare Christmas cakes.
00:40Today we are celebrating the cake mixing ceremony. It's a huge tradition across British areas.
00:46So what we do is we lay down all the dry fruits, nuts and everything and then we will invite all the guests to come and celebrate along with us.
00:53So they will come and pour the liquor and the wines and everything and they will start mixing together.
00:58After this we will store it in a drum. Basically it will be stored for a month, a month and a half.
01:05Once it is fermented we will start preparing the cakes and these cakes are not for selling.
01:11It is basically to give away to the guests in the time of Christmas and New Year.
01:15Tourists who took part in the ceremony said they thoroughly enjoyed being part of this unique tradition handed down from the times when the British resided here.
