00:00Yeah, so about 2.10am this morning, police attached to the mid-north coast responded to a call in relation to a home invasion and a shooting incident on Park Street here in Port Macquarie.
00:15Following on from that, we've been able to establish that at least two persons have entered a home at that location, where they've confronted a 26-year-old male within the premises.
00:27And as a result of that confrontation, a shot has been fired, at least one shot, and the offenders have cleared a short time after that.
00:36Mid-north coast detectives have attended the scene and are investigating the circumstances in relation to it.
00:43Are you concerned about the community's safety given that the offenders are currently on the run?
00:46Obviously, we're investigating the matter in its infancy at the moment, and any risk or any concern around that will certainly be taking the steps we can to address any issues like that.
00:58Do we know if these two were known to the 26-year-old?
01:00We're not aware at this point in time, but our investigations obviously are undergoing, and it's just started in its infancy, and we'll continue to make inquiries in relation to any links that potentially are there.
01:12And do you have any descriptions of the public to look out for anyone? Is that something you want?
01:16Not at this point in time, no. We don't have any descriptions.
01:19Is the 26-year-old okay, or is there no injuries, but quite a frightening thing to attack it?
01:24Yeah, certainly frightening, but no injuries at this stage. They're unharmed.
01:29When you say a shot was fired by the infected, that's correct.
01:33Okay. Do we know anything, or can we learn anything about the weapon, or what might have been involved?
01:39Not at this point in time. We are still making inquiries in relation to that, but it's obviously a firearm.
01:44Anything found on the crime scene?
01:45Yeah, sure.
01:46It's been processed today, so at this stage I can't give you any information in relation to what's been found.
01:52Is this being treated as a random incident, or do you believe that the victim and the two were known to each other?
01:58We don't actually know at this stage whether or not they are linked to each other, so again, that'll form part of the investigation.
02:04Is there any motive that police are following up as to why the offenders might have entered the property?
02:09That'll also come as part of the investigation, but it's obviously very, very early on in the piece, and we're still making inquiries in relation to that.
02:15Any understanding of how they entered? Was it like a break and enter, or...?
02:19Yeah, so yeah, it was. It's a break and enter. We believe that entered through a window of the premises.
02:24Was the person in the house, was he an owner, or another renter, or did we have any information on that?
02:31I'm not actually sure where they are or where they have a problem with the premises, but yeah, I don't know that.
02:37Are you investigating whether it's potentially drug linked? That's sort of what some neighbours, obviously just a rumour at this stage, but is that a line of advice?
02:44I can't. We won't discount anything, but I can't say that is a reason for anyone to explain it.
02:50Where was the gunfire? Inside, outside, or any detail there?
02:53It was within the premises, yeah.
02:57And given this for the shooting, just how serious is this kind of offence for police to investigate at the moment?
03:03Obviously, any shooting is a very serious matter, and we've got a team of detectives that will be working on it to try and get to the bottom of what's happened.
03:11Is this a common occurrence on that street, or is it quite concerning for everyone involved?
03:15Yeah, it's concerning, but it's not something that we're aware of, or something that's happening with any regularity.
