Survival Skills Full Movie
Transcript
00:01:00Society has been divided between those who follow the rules and those who break them.
00:01:08For the good people of Middletown, only one thing stands between them and a rising tide of violence and degeneracy.
00:01:17You.
00:01:19Hello, and welcome to Survival Skills.
00:01:34A new training video from Survival Solutions created specifically for the graduates of the Middletown Police Academy.
00:01:44In the next hour, we're going to be providing you with the information you need to transition from your training into an active field position.
00:01:54Now, I know you have a lot of questions, and we'll get to them.
00:01:57But right now, there's somebody I'd like for you to meet.
00:02:01Hello. Do you know what your name is?
00:02:16I sure don't.
00:02:17Your name is Jim, and you're a policeman.
00:02:20Hmm. I don't know if I have what it takes.
00:02:23Well, are you brave?
00:02:24I think so.
00:02:25Are you compassionate?
00:02:26Sure.
00:02:27Are you a hard worker?
00:02:28You bet.
00:02:29Then you'll be A-OK.
00:02:30The most important qualities a policeman can have are honesty, diligence, and a commitment to justice, no matter what.
00:02:42That sounds like me.
00:02:43Sure does.
00:02:45Now, Jim, we're going to follow you through your first year as a police officer.
00:02:49And I won't lie, it's not going to be easy.
00:02:52But at the end of it, you will have learned some valuable survival skills.
00:02:58And you will, too.
00:02:59Now, let's get started.
00:03:06Welcome to Middletown, USA.
00:03:09Population, 34,000.
00:03:11It's a typical American town, 89% white, with a median income of $70,000.
00:03:18In 1988, the town voted overwhelmingly for Ronald Reagan, despite the fact that he was not running for election.
00:03:24This is the town Jim will call home.
00:03:32We're putting Jim in a sensible two-bedroom house in the suburbs.
00:03:35The kind of place no one would ever want to leave.
00:03:40Now, first things first.
00:03:42Let's get Jim dressed.
00:03:43Oh, no.
00:03:44That may work for the ball game, but it doesn't meet the high standards of the Middletown PD.
00:03:51That's better.
00:03:54What's this?
00:03:56Uh-oh.
00:03:57Now, I know you're curious about that gun, Jim, but that's another video.
00:04:02You're not going to need that gun.
00:04:03Something we often forget is that police officers are real people with real lives.
00:04:10Let's give Jim a life of his own.
00:04:17And what home would be complete without a lady of the house?
00:04:22I make my own jam.
00:04:24Now, let's get Jim to work.
00:04:29Wish me luck, honey.
00:04:32Luck!
00:04:32Wish me luck.
00:05:02You Jim?
00:05:06Yes, ma'am.
00:05:08I don't want to be, you know, unkind or anything,
00:05:13but just so you are aware, I did not request you.
00:05:17In fact, I requested not you.
00:05:20How old are you?
00:05:21I'm 30.
00:05:22Right.
00:05:24And you seem kind of keen for an old guy, which worries me.
00:05:29I don't need a bunch of fucking questions all the time.
00:05:31Questions certainly can be annoying.
00:05:36Okay.
00:05:41I'm your FTO.
00:05:43I've been doing this a long time.
00:05:45So just do what I tell you, follow the rules, and you'll be fine.
00:05:47I'm excited to learn.
00:05:51Whatever you say.
00:05:52Whatever you say, boss.
00:05:54Oh, my God.
00:06:01Let's do this again.
00:06:03I'll do it again.
00:06:03Okay.
00:06:04What about you?
00:06:05I love you.
00:06:05I love you.
00:06:06There's a choice.
00:06:07What about you?
00:06:08I love you.
00:06:09When your do i, you.
00:06:13Don't like me.
00:06:15I don't like me.
00:06:17I love you.
00:06:18I don't like you.
00:06:18I love you.
00:06:19I love you.
00:06:20And I love you.
00:06:24You.
00:06:2410-4, 10-4, this is Unit 11.
00:06:3510-4, 10-4, this is Unit 11.
00:07:05The job of a policeman is unpredictable.
00:07:09It could be a speeding stop or a cat stuck up in a tree.
00:07:13Who knows?
00:07:24Oh.
00:07:26Oh.
00:07:28Well, cadets, it's not all sunshine and lollipops out there.
00:07:32Sometimes you have to get tough.
00:07:34And Jim's first assignment is about the toughest there is.
00:07:38But before we get started, let's take a look at some basic principles.
00:07:43Domestic violence calls are notoriously unpredictable, emotional, and deadly.
00:07:49And we've developed a five-step plan to help you navigate these tricky situations.
00:07:53And we call this the SMEN system.
00:08:00The first step is S, safe approach.
00:08:05Step two is make notes.
00:08:12As you enter, make a note of everything that is or could be a weapon.
00:08:19Step three is E, emotions.
00:08:22Before you say anything, look carefully at the faces of any occupants in the room.
00:08:27Step four is N, partition.
00:08:35Try using an open-armed herding technique like you'd use with cattle.
00:08:41And finally, step five, S.
00:08:46S stands for solve.
00:08:48Once they've calmed down, bring the disputants back together and have a frank, honest talk about what happened.
00:08:55Everyone is calm and no one gets hurt.
00:08:58SMENs.
00:08:59Now, let's see how Jim does.
00:09:02I mean, if you call that, he already called you.
00:09:06I'm going to miss understanding that everything you're going in here.
00:09:07I'm going to miss you, Ben.
00:09:09Thank you for that.
00:09:10Will you just stop interrupting me?
00:09:11Jim, stop.
00:09:12I'm going to need you.
00:09:14You can move her upstairs.
00:09:15You can move her upstairs.
00:09:15You can move her upstairs.
00:09:16You can move her upstairs.
00:09:17I'm going to goddamn help her, please.
00:09:18Hold it.
00:09:18What were you raised?
00:09:20In a barn?
00:09:21You'll throw it away.
00:09:22No!
00:09:22No!
00:09:23No!
00:09:23No!
00:09:24No!

00:09:28No!
00:09:28No!
00:09:29No!
00:09:29No!
00:09:32So what was the fight about?
00:09:42Nothing.
00:09:48Nothing.
00:09:56Look, I'm not proud of this, but we were arguing,
00:09:59and I was, I was belittling her intelligence.
00:10:06She never finished college.
00:10:07She's insecure about it.
00:10:09She, she feels like she can't get a job.
00:10:11Like, she's dependent on me.
00:10:16And sometimes, and sometimes, and sometimes I need a lure about it when I'm stressed out at work.
00:10:21But that's, that's no excuse.
00:10:24I, I know that.
00:10:26I, I, I, I know that.
00:10:27Hmm.
00:10:28Hmm.
00:10:34So that's it?
00:10:39Yeah.
00:10:49Okay.
00:10:49I'm sorry.
00:10:51I'm sorry.
00:10:51I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm sorry.
00:11:03I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I

00:13:28him using her as a punchy bank there's a goddamn thing we can do but if we separate them you're

00:13:41fuck up for a minute
00:13:42i'm sorry you seem upset were you abused as a child
00:13:50domestic violence cases was in more than just physical danger for law enforcement officers
00:13:59the emotional strain of returning again and again to an abusive home
00:14:05can take a toll on the officers themselves officers can become so
00:14:11so heartbroken that they're tempted to break the rules and contact the abused party
00:14:19and while this desire comes from a noble place it often leads to more heartbreak more anger
00:14:26and more violence
00:14:28but not every case is quite so grim
00:14:34today jim has been called to arrest a local shoplifter who may be a little different than he's expecting

00:19:59you are wrong
00:20:00no
00:20:01making decisions for yourself

00:20:06I've already been tended to.
00:20:13You're embarrassed.
00:20:15I feel stupid.
00:20:17Everyone will see my face and know what happened.
00:20:29Jenny? Jenny?
00:20:36There.
00:20:46Now we are the same.
00:21:06So I got sent on a kind of domestic call.
00:21:16A 14-year-old girl is having it out with her grandparents.
00:21:20She calls her grandma a bitch.
00:21:22Tells her to shut up.
00:21:23So I lay out some ground rules.
00:21:25I talk about family, responsibility, drugs, sex, stuff.
00:21:30The girl is generally happy.
00:21:31She even laughs a little bit.
00:21:32I tell her she's grounded for the night, and I take off.
00:21:37About an hour later, suicide kicks out.
00:21:4514-year-old girl is cut herself up with a razor.
00:21:49She's as shit.
00:21:50Same girl.
00:21:53I'm just kidding.
00:21:55I'm just kidding.
00:21:56kicks out 14 year old girls cut herself up with a razor sure as shit same girl
00:22:03not fucking believable
00:22:08so i go over there there she is arms wrapped up in a towel
00:22:15i ask her how we got from cleaning our room to carving ourselves up what the hell happened in
00:22:24the 60 minutes i was gone right so i'm i don't know people man you know
00:22:37that's just the stuff you see yourself never mind the stuff you hear about like
00:22:45like the kid who was run over by a forklift
00:22:52the roofer who falls and breaks his neck in half the construction worker that
00:22:58gets eat up by an auger decomposing man on the white leather couch
00:23:04the old man on the toilet the little girl in the wheel well
00:23:10and on and on and on and on
00:23:18and on
00:23:19and on
00:23:21Come on, come on, come on, come on.
00:23:51Go head it out.
00:24:11You doing all right?
00:24:20I'm aware of the emotional toll of a policeman's life.
00:24:27And I've taken steps to ensure that I remain within normal emotional balance.
00:24:32That's how I'd describe you.
00:24:34People ask and I'd say, he's within normal emotional balance.
00:24:43Take care of yourself, RoboCup.
00:24:50Even for a busy cop, it's important to make time for your loved ones.
00:24:57And so, Jim decided to head home.
00:25:06And so, Jim decided to head home.
00:25:10And so, are you listening to me?
00:25:17Jim?
00:25:22Hello?
00:25:31Hello?
00:25:32This is...
00:25:37Let's try that again, shall we?
00:25:42Everybody makes mistakes.
00:25:44But as long as you learn from...
00:25:52What are you doing?
00:25:53I just told you.
00:25:58The mark of a good cop is that he never makes the same mistake three times.
00:26:05Jim, think of what you're doing.
00:26:08What if Mark is home?
00:26:17What if she won't talk to you?
00:26:20What if she tells the chief that one of his officers is harassing her?
00:26:27Just hang up, Jim.
00:26:29Jim, this is your final warning.
00:26:31Jim?
00:26:32Hello?
00:26:33Hello?
00:26:34Hello?
00:26:35This is...
00:26:38Officer Williams.
00:26:39We met the other day.
00:26:40My husband's not here.
00:26:41Actually, I was hoping to speak to you.
00:26:42Do you have a second?
00:26:43Is there something I can tell you?
00:26:44No.
00:26:45No.
00:26:46No.
00:26:47No.
00:26:48No.
00:26:49No.
00:26:50No.
00:26:51No.
00:26:52No.
00:26:53No.

00:27:25No.
00:27:26No.
00:27:27No.
00:27:29Furthermore, if you're worried that you'd be financially compromised without him,
00:27:33I will make it my personal mission to see that doesn't happen.
00:27:40If you won't do it for yourself, do it for your daughter.
00:27:45Officer Williams, don't call this number again.
00:27:51Hold on a second.
00:27:54Where's the damn script?
00:27:58Now.
00:28:03Now.
00:28:06In your first year as a law enforcement officer, you'll face your share of temptation.
00:28:13If you found yourself in this sort of situation, who would you turn to?
00:28:17Your chief? Your priest? A favorite teacher from high school?
00:28:21All acceptable.
00:28:23In Jim's case, he turns to the man who knows him best.
00:28:27His father.
00:28:43Well, I...
00:28:43I can't say that I know what to tell you, son.
00:28:49Oh.
00:28:50It's a...
00:28:50It's a very complicated situation.
00:28:53I was hoping you might tell me to follow my heart.
00:28:55Well, instincts are important, son.
00:28:59But so is following the rules.
00:29:01But then again, so are instincts.
00:29:06And...
00:29:06And following the rules also is...
00:29:09Important, I mean.
00:29:11If there wasn't a child involved.
00:29:28Oh, son.
00:29:30Lots of kids grow up getting hit.
00:29:33I did.
00:29:34And I'm...
00:29:35Fine.
00:29:37If I can help, I should.
00:29:41I want to.
00:29:42It sounds like you're having doubts.
00:29:44I'm not.
00:29:47Or maybe...
00:29:51I don't know.
00:29:54You know what they say about doubts, son.
00:29:56What?
00:29:56Well, in Matthew 21, 21, Jesus says,
00:30:03Truly, I say to you,
00:30:05if you have faith and do not doubt,
00:30:09you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree,
00:30:13but even if you say to this mountain,
00:30:16be taken up and thrown into the sea,
00:30:19it will happen.
00:30:20I think...
00:30:26I think I can see that.
00:30:30I think I understand that.
00:30:32Bully for you, son.
00:30:34Always good to see you, son.
00:30:37Now get out there and catch some bad guys.
00:30:40Because it's over like BAM!
00:31:00BAM!
00:31:01BAM!
00:31:02BAM!
00:31:02BAM!
00:31:03BAM!
00:31:05BAM!
00:31:05BAM!
00:31:06BAM!
00:31:10BAM!
00:31:11BAM!
00:31:12BAM!
00:31:13BAM!
00:31:14BAM!
00:31:15What do you think it's gonna be like, huh?
00:31:18You think your guy's just gonna stand there like,
00:31:20Oh, hey, officer.
00:31:22Let me just take my knife out real slowly.
00:31:25ROLL!
00:31:26Do you know what safe combat distance is from a knife combatant?
00:31:3221 feet minimum.
00:31:34That doesn't matter if I'm fighting in an open street,
00:31:37a crowded room, or on my houseboat.
00:31:40Now, can I get a volunteer?
00:31:42Awesome.
00:31:43I love your energy.
00:31:45What's your name?
00:31:46Jim.
00:31:51Now, say I come at you with a reverse grip,
00:31:55slashing side to side like this.
00:31:58What's your best defense?
00:32:00Well, first I would evaluate whether the subject is a violence risk.
00:32:04I would then perform the five components of arrest.
00:32:08A verbal warning, approach of the subject.
00:32:16We'll cover this later.
00:32:17And finally, the handcuffing and reading of rights.
00:32:25Okay.
00:32:26Let's see how that plays out for you.
00:32:30Stop, citizen!
00:32:31Let's get one thing straight.
00:32:39You want to arrest somebody with a knife?
00:32:42You gotta have your gun out.
00:32:46When someone's coming after you for real with a knife,
00:32:50you're not going to be ready.
00:32:53I promise you.
00:32:54Okay, pair off and let's practice some shit.
00:33:10And one!
00:33:11And two!
00:33:13And three!
00:33:14And four!
00:33:15And five!
00:33:17And six!
00:33:17He's right.
00:33:18The world of a law enforcement officer is dangerous and unpredictable.
00:33:22But if you follow the instructions outlined in this video,
00:33:26you'll have the skills you'll need to survive.
00:33:29And now, let's look at knife wounds.
00:33:32Gross.
00:33:34That guy died.
00:33:37Good morning, Jim.
00:33:39How'd you sleep?
00:33:40Excellent.
00:33:42Well, you got another busy day ahead of you.
00:33:44And no time to waste.
00:33:47A healthy breakfast.
00:33:50A kiss from Ginny.
00:33:51Wish me luck, honey.
00:33:53Luck!
00:33:54And Jim's out the door.
00:34:17No, you stop.
00:34:26Meg, how's Steve doing at Little League?
00:34:28You know, he ever wants to practice.
00:34:29I used to have a mean swing.
00:34:32Damn!
00:34:35My name's Karen.
00:34:36Oh, go on.
00:34:43You wanted to see me, Chief?
00:34:45Yes, hi.
00:34:45Come on in.
00:34:46Well, listen, gosh, you have had one heck of a month here, haven't you?
00:34:50Well...
00:34:51I, uh, I received a letter yesterday from Mr. Howard Skelman.
00:34:56This is Stephanie's widower.
00:34:58You responded to a call at his home?
00:34:59Yes, sir.
00:35:00It says here in the report that, uh, there wasn't any food in the house and, uh, and that
00:35:05the son had been shoplifting.
00:35:06Yes, sir.
00:35:07It also says in the letter that, uh, you purchased $200 worth of groceries and, uh, and delivered
00:35:14them to his home.
00:35:17Have I done something wrong, sir?
00:35:19Listen, the only reason I know about this is because I received this letter from Mr. Skelman.
00:35:25Now, maybe you were nervous because, uh, well, maybe you thought you'd crossed the lines or
00:35:29something, but I just have to say that I think what you did was wonderful.
00:35:37It was really, really wonderful.
00:35:44Should I hug you?
00:35:45No, no, that's okay.
00:35:46I mean, after all, you're the, uh, you're the hero here, right?
00:35:50I'm just a side character.
00:35:52Oh, listen, uh, Allison says that, uh, you're, uh, you're getting a little too close to the,
00:35:58uh, to the Jenning case.
00:36:00She does?
00:36:01Uh, if I were you, I'd, uh, I'd stay clear of that situation.
00:36:04I actually spoke with my father about it, and we agreed that it's best if I just forget
00:36:09it.
00:36:11Okay, then.
00:36:13Have a great day.
00:36:14Margaret, can I get a...
00:36:18That doesn't work.
00:36:21That doesn't work.
00:36:22Well, it looks like Jim's really making a name for himself, but there's never a good
00:36:29time to let your guard down.
00:36:31Parents and teachers around the country are increasingly concerned about the threat of
00:36:36satanic ritual abuse.
00:36:39Is Satan real?
00:36:41Does he create obstacles in your life?
00:36:43We can't say.
00:36:45But the satanic movement, born in heavy metal concerts and abortion clinics across America,
00:36:50is very real.
00:36:52This is the police.
00:36:58Hello?
00:36:58Hello?

00:42:46I understand what you're going through, and I'm offering you my support and my concern.
00:43:13I don't need concern. I need money. Can you help?
00:43:22What? Just enough to get through a trial.
00:43:28Yes, I can. How? The case is pretty clear cut. You could be looking at sizable damages.
00:43:36Child support, of course, if it goes your way. If? Well, I'd say you have a pretty strong case,
00:43:40wouldn't you? Even if I win the case, Mark's got enough money to spin it out for months.
00:43:46And where am I supposed to stay then? Where is Lauren going to stay?
00:43:53I'll tell you what. If nothing else works, you can stay with us. Me and Jenny. She's my girlfriend.
00:44:01Well, thank you, Officer Williams. I think I'd like to handle this myself.
00:44:16Mrs. Jennings, please. Please do not call my house again.
00:44:19There are other avenues we can explore. Like what?
00:44:24Okay. Okay. There is a receptionist position opening up at the precinct.
00:44:31You can't offer me that. Let me try.
00:44:34There are a number of resources from the battered women's shelter and contributions from my church.
00:44:39Please. Please. Let me do this. Please.
00:45:09If I were to agree, what would happen next?
00:45:39This is Officer Jim Williams with the Middletown Police Department.
00:45:52Today is the 2nd of June and it is 10 53 in the morning.
00:45:57And we're interviewing Lauren Jenning. Jennings?
00:46:02Jenning.
00:46:03That's J-E-N-N-I-N-G.
00:46:09Yeah.
00:46:11Awesome. And how old are you, Lauren?
00:46:1416.
00:46:15Great. And where do you go to school?
00:46:19Middletown Prep.
00:46:20How do you like it?
00:46:22It's pretty fun, actually.
00:46:24What's your favorite class?
00:46:27Um, I guess photography. My dad got me this camera.
00:46:32He did. Great.
00:46:35It's cool sometimes.
00:46:36Great. So, before we get started, there are a few rules.
00:46:42First, if I ask you a question and you don't know the answer, just say, you don't know.
00:46:48Second, if I get something wrong, I want you to correct me.
00:46:52And third, it's really important that we only talk about the truth.
00:46:57So, do you promise to tell the truth?
00:47:01Yeah.
00:47:03Okay.
00:47:03Okay. So, Lauren, can you tell me why we're talking today?
00:47:12Um, I don't know.
00:47:16If I do something or get something wrong, um, sometimes my dad hurts me.
00:47:29Can you tell me about the last time your dad hit you?
00:47:32He doesn't hit me.
00:47:33What does he do?
00:47:39Um, like, one time I came home from school and I went to go get something to eat.
00:47:49Apparently, that's not okay.
00:47:52And he got really mad.
00:47:55And he told me to take off my shoes.
00:47:57I think it's like a fishing line.
00:48:06What happened next?
00:48:09Um, you know, I tried to run away and grab me.
00:48:15It's like yelling, like, what are you doing?
00:48:19You're supposed to be doing homework.
00:48:21He was yelling this.
00:48:23Yeah.
00:48:24I don't know. He's like, you're gonna get bad grades.
00:48:31Mom's gonna be so mad at you.
00:48:36Worthless.
00:48:38I don't know. I can't remember.
00:48:41Okay.
00:48:41Well, then he like wrapped the fishing line around my foot.
00:48:56Until I started bleeding.
00:49:00And I couldn't really walk.
00:49:02I was kind of in shock, but I guess he's done stuff like this before, so.
00:49:17And to your stepmom?
00:49:20My mom, you can just call out my mom.
00:49:22Does he abuse her as well?
00:49:25Obviously.
00:49:26Obviously.
00:49:29What other things has he done?
00:49:35I don't know.
00:49:36You know, he's fine sometimes.
00:49:39We go take photos together.
00:49:43He's actually a really good photographer.
00:49:45You say he's done other things.
00:49:51He's never, like, touched me like that.
00:49:55What kind of stuff would he do?
00:50:01Do I have to do this?
00:50:05I'm sorry.
00:50:06I don't get ready for school in time.
00:50:24Takes my arm in the front door and slams it.
00:50:28He burned my arm with a lighter.
00:50:36Used to bend my fingers back until I would scream.
00:50:40One time, he filled up the bathtub with ice and made me sit in it.
00:50:46He threatens to kill me a lot.
00:50:58I don't know.
00:51:08Hey!
00:51:09Come on!
00:51:12Frickin' everybody else!
00:51:15Come on!
00:51:15Oh, there's something else.
00:51:16Come on!
00:51:21Hey, hey, hey, hey!
00:51:23What is wrong with you?
00:51:25Oh, God.
00:51:26Oh, God.
00:51:28I think we've gotten off track here.
00:51:39Let's see if we can refocus and get back to our original purpose.
00:51:44And while we recalibrate, take a moment to enjoy our previous educational video.
00:51:52Use of force in public spaces.
00:51:54Procedures and practices to control dangerous situations in public spaces with a special emphasis
00:52:01on crowd containment and analysis and implementation of appropriate use of force
00:52:07force in situations that may present challenges to traditional models of law enforcement threat analysis.
00:52:14Part one.
00:52:15I put my heart and soul into this company.
00:52:22Now they're sending our jobs overseas.
00:52:24I put my heart and soul into this company.
00:52:26Now they're sending our jobs overseas.
00:52:28Meet Jane.
00:52:29Just like you, Jane is a graduate of the Middletown Police Academy.
00:52:36Let's follow Jane as she navigates the pitfalls of her first year of active duty at the Middletown Police Department.
00:52:42In this scenario, Jane must make a decision about the appropriate level of force to be used
00:52:47on a group of protesters who are congregating illegally.
00:52:50Folks!
00:52:52Can you keep it down for a moment so we can talk?
00:52:54There are other areas for you to gather.
00:52:56You're breaking the law here.
00:53:00Folks, I don't like it any better than you do, but you're gonna have to move along.
00:53:03Not a chance.
00:53:04We're not leaving until we get answers.
00:53:06Yeah!
00:53:07Sir, I'm gonna need you to...
00:53:08You don't know what hard times are.
00:53:10I put my heart and soul into this company, and they're sending our jobs overseas.
00:53:12Sir!
00:53:13I put my heart and soul into this company.
00:53:15Now they put my, uh, I put my heart and soul into this company.
00:53:18Fuck.
00:53:20Sir, I need you to...
00:53:21You don't know what hard times are.
00:53:22I put my heart and soul into this company.
00:53:24Now they're sending our jobs overseas.
00:53:26I'm gonna need you to...
00:53:29Drop the sign now!
00:53:30Now!
00:53:31This communist has just crossed the line from verbal threats to physical menace.
00:53:36Should Jane A issue a verbal warning, B draw her sidearm, C move to a tactically advantageous position,
00:53:44or D all of the above?
00:53:48Drop the sign now!
00:53:52If you answered A or B, congratulations, you're correct.
00:53:57Were you able to identify the threat in Jane's response?
00:54:03Was her response appropriate?
00:54:05In a similar situation, what would you...
00:54:10What are you doing?
00:54:14What about the force evaluation scene? It's very important.
00:54:17Damn it!
00:54:18Has everyone gone crazy but me?
00:54:21There's nothing left to learn from Jim Williams.
00:54:23I would know, wouldn't I? It's my story. I'm the goddamn narrator!
00:54:30I bought you an extra burger.
00:54:39How's the case going?
00:54:40Huh.
00:54:44I'm trying my best to avoid it.
00:54:49I realize my objectivity has been impaired.
00:54:5520 bucks says you get a slap on the wrist.
00:54:57You know we're not allowed to gamble.
00:54:59Yeah, well, you're taking a hell of a gamble on this lady.
00:55:05If she doesn't show up for you...
00:55:06She'll testify.
00:55:07She said she would.
00:55:12What?
00:55:14Why wouldn't she testify?
00:55:15Because people are terrible, Rookie.
00:55:18I...
00:55:19I'm not saying that every person is terrible, but as a group,
00:55:25people are just a nightmare.
00:55:26They whip shit at a patrol car.
00:55:35Take shots at you.
00:55:39Even if you're just sitting, having lunch, they call you fuckhead or whatever.
00:55:45And then these same assholes, they're the ones that come crying to you when something goes wrong for them.
00:55:49It's just a cradle-to-grave nightmare.
00:56:02Alison?
00:56:02I think you shouldn't be a police officer.
00:56:15Have you been accused of domestic violence?
00:56:17Don't wait.
00:56:18Contact Rick Bell.
00:56:19He'll get you off.
00:56:21When a policeman pressured my wife into accusing me of domestic abuse, I thought I was done for.
00:56:27But Rick Bell sure showed that guy what's what.
00:56:31Thanks, Rick Bell.
00:56:32Thanks, Rick Bell.
00:56:33Thanks, Rick Bell.
00:56:34Thanks, Rick Bell.
00:56:35Thanks, Rick Bell.
00:57:00Thanks, Rick.
00:57:01I had a dream that I was a muffler.
00:57:12What's a muffler, Jim?
00:57:20It's part of a car.
00:57:22It muffles an engine.
00:57:40What's funny?
00:57:47You wouldn't get it.
00:57:52A lot of people are confused by this passage.
00:58:02Why is Jesus, the Son of God, yelling at a fig tree?
00:58:09Have you heard the phrase, God works in mysterious ways?
00:58:14Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt,
00:58:19Now, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, be taken up and thrown into the sea, it will happen.
00:58:31Oh, heck, I know everybody's just praying for the Seahawks right now, so I'm going to let you out of here in just one second.
00:58:39But first, we've got a little housekeeping.
00:58:41First, Jim Williams has an announcement to make.
00:58:46Thank you, Father.
00:58:47Father, friends, I'm here to appeal to your charity.
00:58:54There's a local woman who's trying to get out of an abusive relationship.
00:58:59Her name is Leah, Leah Jenning.
00:59:01And with Father Branner's blessing, today's collection plate will go to finding her a place to live.
00:59:07So if you can find it in your hearts to give a little extra.
00:59:11Or if anyone would be willing to open up their homes to this poor woman.
00:59:17I'd appreciate it.
00:59:24Anything would help?
00:59:31She's real desperate.
00:59:38Thanks.
00:59:38All right, folks.
00:59:46Let's get out of here.
00:59:48Go Hawks!
00:59:53Go Hawks!
00:59:54I don't understand.
01:00:11Officer Williams, we are desperately underfunded.
01:00:14Government subsidies are down in half because of Reagan.
01:00:17Fucking Reagan.
01:00:19Corporate sponsorship has dried up.
01:00:21Personal donations are down.
01:00:23We just don't have the resources for what you're asking.
01:00:25I thought this was a shelter.
01:00:27We can provide a 30-day stay for one woman or a two-week stay for a woman plus a kid.
01:00:32Well, that's not enough time.
01:00:33Their trial is...
01:00:33That's what we offer.
01:00:34You're really going to turn her away?
01:00:35I turn women away all the time, officer.
01:00:38They are both extremely fragile and their court date is in 17 days.
01:00:42And if the mother doesn't feel supported, she may not testify.
01:00:45And then they'll be thrown right back into a violent and potentially fatal situation.
01:00:49You don't want to be responsible for that, do you?
01:00:55Will you excuse me?
01:00:57I've got work to do.
01:00:59I'm sorry if I spoke out of turn.
01:01:01I wish I could help you, officer.
01:01:02Well, if you... if you change your mind...
01:01:16Oh.
01:01:22So?
01:01:25I think we're making definite progress.
01:01:27What... what does that mean?
01:01:29Really great steps in a positive direction.
01:01:31We... we... we can't sleep on your floor forever.
01:01:34I understand that.
01:01:36Yeah, I think we're really close.
01:01:37They said no.
01:01:41Look at this.
01:01:41Today, we made $47.18.
01:01:46What about the... the receptionist thing?
01:01:49I... I haven't been able...
01:01:51I think that there are other more promising avenues for us to explore.
01:01:55You're... you're killing us.
01:01:59Well, I appreciate your anxiety.
01:02:01I... I do not share your sentiment.
01:02:03Okay.
01:02:06Okay.
01:02:07What about the shelter?
01:02:1030 days for one of you or two weeks for both of you?
01:02:13We've got 17 more days before a preliminary hearing.
01:02:19I want you to trust it.
01:02:20I'm doing my best.
01:02:21Oh, no, no.
01:02:22I get that.
01:02:23Look, we'll, uh...
01:02:25We'll do the shelter.
01:02:28For as long as we can.
01:02:30If you're sure.
01:02:31After that.
01:02:32Nice job, RoboCop.
01:02:33I would really appreciate it if you didn't...
01:02:41talk like that.
01:02:55All available units, we got a 273D, units 11, 8, and 26 are on the scene.
01:03:03Uh, we got a...
01:03:33Is it my scene now?
01:04:03Yes.
01:04:08It's your scene.
01:04:13You're leaving?
01:04:16Yes.
01:04:18Why?
01:04:20It's not because of your job.
01:04:22Yes, it is.
01:04:24It has to be.
01:04:27Late nights, worrying if I'm okay.
01:04:30It's not that.
01:04:32Are you trying to teach me a lesson?
01:04:35I'm not doing anything to you.
01:04:38Where will you go?
01:04:40Bowling Green, Florida.
01:04:42I sold my good dress and bought a Greyhound ticket.
01:04:48Bowling Green.
01:04:50Bowling Green.
01:04:52Isn't it beautiful?
01:04:56I would just like to point out that I'm capable of change.
01:04:59If there's something that you want that I'm not providing, I would be happy to provide it for you.
01:05:04Bowling Green.
01:05:05There are a number of possibilities I feel we should explore before committing ourselves irrevocably to some course of action.
01:05:11I can mention how you're the only person around whom I can relax.
01:05:14I can tell you more that I feel that without you, I might have no clear reason for living.
01:05:19But in order to save time, I will be brief.
01:05:21Please don't go.
01:05:22Please don't go.
01:05:23Please don't leave me.
01:05:24Please.
01:05:25Please.
01:05:26I warned you.
01:05:36Didn't I warn you?
01:05:39Why don't you ever listen to me, Jim?
01:05:43What did you think was gonna happen?
01:05:53That you were gonna save the day?
01:05:58That they were gonna give you the keys to the city and throw a goddamn parade?
01:06:07That Leo would testify in open court against a man who had the power to destroy her?
01:06:13That a jury would side with her and her fucking court-appointed attorney?
01:06:18This is your fault!
01:06:19All your promises, all your lies, all your good intentions, you stupid naive fucking child!
01:06:25Jesus Christ, Jim.
01:06:28What have you done?
01:06:30What have you done?
01:06:31What have you done?
01:07:00What have you done?
01:07:01What have you done?
01:07:02This is a man who's been a part of the city for 10 years.
01:07:04He's a husband.
01:07:07He's a father.
01:07:08He's a hard-working middle-town citizen.
01:07:11And to top it all off, she won't even testify in her own defense.
01:07:15Won't say a single word about it.
01:07:17Now what does that tell you?
01:07:20I'm gonna tell you we've seen this kind of thing before happening.
01:07:23We've all known women, you know, she gets upset about something, and she starts making accusations,
01:07:29she gets at it, and we all know that.
01:07:31She's killing it.
01:07:32She's killing it.
01:07:33She's killing it.
01:07:34She's killing it.
01:07:35She's killing it.
01:07:36She's killing it.
01:07:37She's killing it.
01:07:38She's killing it.
01:07:39All right.
01:07:41Mrs. Jenner, did your husband ever physically assault you?
01:07:45Mrs. Jenning.
01:08:15Often we try to save others from the things that we are afraid of ourselves.
01:08:23So this need to save everyone is simply an embodiment of your self-protective instincts.
01:08:32Let me ask you something.
01:08:34What would you be if you weren't a policeman?
01:08:38What do you mean?
01:08:40It will never happen again.
01:08:42I thought I was doing the right thing.
01:08:44Was it the kid?
01:08:45Did you grow up with an abusive dad or something?
01:08:48I was just trying to do the right thing.
01:08:55You know, my dad was like that.
01:09:07He was a, uh, he was a choker.
01:09:11Yeah, he was.
01:09:12Yeah, he was.
01:09:13What, do you want a speech?
01:09:14And I let you keep your badge, huh?
01:09:16You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:18You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:19You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:20You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:25Alison.
01:09:26Alison.
01:09:27Alison.
01:09:28What are you doing?
01:09:29What are you doing?
01:09:30You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:31You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:35You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:36You are some kind of lucky.
01:09:42What are you doing?
01:09:44Alison?
01:09:45You are someone coming back?
01:09:46Things that you were supposed to think.
01:09:47You should figure out where all the organs.
01:09:48I'm sorry.
01:09:49He's?
01:09:50Anything that were made and we're lost.
01:09:52I can't believe it.
01:09:53Oh, no.
01:09:54Sure.
01:09:55Well, even if you look too wise,
01:09:55you mean I cannot SARI all of her is no trace if youambre you are.
01:09:57What are you besides a policeman?
01:10:01What kind of fucking question is that?
01:10:08I'm trying to do paperwork here.
01:10:31Meet Jim.
01:11:00He's 31 years old from Tacoma, Washington.
01:11:04He likes Eric Clapton, fishing, and going to the movies.
01:11:08And just like you, he's a graduate of the Middletown Police Academy.
01:11:11And though today might look like any other day,
01:11:14it's actually the last day of Jim's first year
01:11:17as a Middletown police officer.
01:11:19Yes, one year ago today, we met Jim.
01:11:21And by gosh, he's been through a lot, hasn't he?
01:11:24From that little motorcycle scrape to troubles at home
01:11:27to the other issue we won't talk about,
01:11:31Jim's been tested.
01:11:33Wish me luck, honey.
01:11:35But he's turned out A-OK.
01:11:37Good luck, honey.
01:11:39He's forged good relationships with his colleagues,
01:11:44he's gained a sterling reputation in his community,
01:11:47and he's learned the importance
01:11:49of following department procedure at all times.
01:11:53It looks like Jim has gained the skills he needs to survive.
01:11:58And you can too.
01:12:00And you can keep it in touch as well.
01:12:02Some other little people can't stand.
01:12:03And you can keep it in touch as well.
01:12:04I just can keep it in touch with him.
01:12:06I can actually keep it in touch with his hands.
01:12:08And if music is probably the only way,
01:12:09I can keep it in touch with my wife.
01:12:10And that's what we do my life is doing.
01:12:16And that's what makes it harder for me.
01:12:19I can't do a lot of you.
01:12:20Yeah, it's got a lot of you.
01:12:22Yeah, I can't do a lot of you.
01:12:24It's a little hard time.
01:12:25I can't do a lot of you,
01:12:27Hello?
01:12:37Yeah, is this Officer Williams?
01:12:41Speaking.
01:12:42The Officer Williams that called my house?
01:12:46That depends.
01:12:48Leah, say hi to Officer Williams.
01:12:50Mr. Jennings.
01:12:53Get me, you piece of shit.
01:13:23Do something.
01:13:26Let's drink for food
01:13:31Let's eat for food
01:13:36Can you see it?
01:14:12Hey, you okay?
01:14:30Jesus Christ.
01:14:36Listen, the detectives are all done with you, right?
01:14:42You're released. I'll be that on site, okay?
01:14:49Hey, listen.
01:14:54Um, they found them.
01:14:58Both of them, the daughter and the mom.
01:15:02They're okay.
01:15:04They ran to a neighbor's house.
01:15:07I mean, they're great, but they're breathing.
01:15:12That's interesting.
01:15:15Did you hear what I said?
01:15:16I said that they're okay.
01:15:19Hey, I'm going to go home now.
01:15:25I'm going to get some sleep.
01:15:28It's important to get sleep.
01:15:31And I'm going to get some.
01:15:49Uh, you call me with anything, okay?
01:15:58If you...
01:15:58I'm going to get some sleep.
01:15:59I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:00I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:01I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:02I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:03I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:04I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:05I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:06I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:07I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:08I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:09I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:10I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:11I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:12I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:13I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:14I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:15I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:16I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:17I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:18I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:19I'm going to get some sleep.
01:16:20You're way off script now, Jim.
01:16:43What will you do if you find him?
01:16:47Kill him?
01:16:50That uniform doesn't give you the right to kill whoever you want.
01:17:05And how will you find him?
01:17:08Jim?
01:17:12So, you're going home with nothing.
01:17:16Mark Jenning will never be caught.
01:17:19And you will live your life eaten up by guilt over what you've caused.
01:17:29Who knows?
01:17:30You may start drinking.
01:17:31And before you know it, you'll be the one hitting your kid with the belt.
01:17:40Mark Jenning will never be stuck.
01:17:41I use Kim.
01:17:49Pull him closer.
01:17:51Pull her worn off the belt on her head.
01:17:54You may end the old hat for you.
01:17:56So, you'll burn it.
01:17:58You're a girl in your alley.
01:18:00Come on.
01:18:02You're a man.
01:18:02And that's what happens in real life.
01:18:28But this is not real.
