00:00Now, it's a sit down with Keri Russell.
00:02Hi, Keri.
00:03We are so back, baby.
00:05Season three of The Diplomat is here.
00:07This show has so many twists and turns,
00:09some very shocking.
00:11How far in advance do you get the spoilers?
00:13I pretty much read it as we read the scripts.
00:15In a way, these scripts and these stories are so dense
00:19that it's best paced out the way it is
00:23because it's a lot to hold, you know?
00:27And so I don't know anything that far in advance.
00:30Your character's looks are constantly being scrutinized
00:33and discussed.
00:34I'm sure you can relate to that being a woman in Hollywood.
00:37Are you empathetic towards your character, Cade?
00:39Or do you ever want to be like,
00:40listen, it's worth the power?
00:42No, I'm totally empathetic.
00:43I mean, it's a weird, it's such a weird thing being a woman.
00:51Yeah, everyone has an opinion about the way you look,
00:53the way you dress, the way your hair is.
00:55That's just the nature of our society.
00:57But I also find it really enjoyable.
00:59I mean, it's like a fun thing to play.
01:00And I like how cranky she is about it
01:02and how she's always trying to fight with people about it
01:05and is rude about it.
01:09I love it.
01:09I find it delightful.
01:12Try a bra with a little padding.
01:13I know there's not much to hide,
01:14but when your jacket opens, I'm getting headlights.
01:17It's something my girlfriends and I talk about all the time.
01:19Like there's so much,
01:20like, I feel like plastic surgery is such,
01:24having such a moment right now.
01:27Men, women, 20 year olds.
01:29I mean, it is around.
01:31We're inundated with these movie stars,
01:34even though they might be 50 or 60 years old,
01:37they look amazing.
01:38And they're like 25.
01:40I watch this show and I'm like,
01:42huh, I do not look like that.
01:45You know?
01:46I like the way I look on the show.
01:48And it's amazing that I feel like that's strange.
01:51Like that's a unique thing to look like that.
01:54But it is.
01:56How odd is it being part of a political show
01:59amidst a very intense political time?
02:01It's actually really cool.
02:03And I feel fortunate that right now in this time,
02:08we are telling some specific stories
02:11and shining a light on civil servants
02:16who are in a sticky point right now.
02:19And anything we can do to celebrate them
02:25and tell them how much we respect them
02:28and as many of them lose their jobs,
02:32I feel fortunate we get to be a part of that.
02:36Since you were an ambassador to the UK in the show,
02:38did your happy Matthew give you any tips
02:40about life over there?
02:42No, but I loved working in London.
02:46And I mean, we just had such great summers there
02:49and he got to go home a lot because it was so close.
02:53And we did one whole episode in Scotland,
02:57which was so fun.
02:59I'd never been and that was amazing.
03:01And my kids came over and we swam in freezing cold locks.
03:05And it was winter and we went in anyway
03:09and like did these cold dips.
03:11I love shooting there.
03:13I love the crew we have.
03:15It's been really nice to shoot there.
03:17How is your Welsh coming along?
03:19My Welsh?
03:21It's a hard language.
03:22And I'm not going to sing my world.
03:24I'm going to sing my world.
03:25Our youngest speaks it and understands it.
03:27It has a really good accent,
03:30but I should know it better than I do.
03:34OK, to end the show,
03:35we're going to put 10 seconds on the clock.
03:36T season three of The Diplomat for us.
03:39Ready? Go.
03:40The twists come quick and hard.
03:42It's so fun and dramatic.
03:45And this is one of my favorite shows I've ever worked on.
03:48I just think it's a total delight.
03:52Carrie, thank you so much for dropping by today.
03:54Thank you. Thank you very much.
