00:01I'm going to let you in on a little secret.

00:04As much as we use computers and technology,

00:07Avatar is made by an incredibly talented team of people

00:11who bring every expression,

00:13every emotional beat,

00:15and the entire world to life.

00:22If it's not for the actors,

00:24Pandora would just be a beautiful world with no life in it.

00:28There's not one thing that you see us do that is animated.

00:31It is all us. It is all true.

00:34Wherever we go,

00:36this family is our fortress.

00:39We capture 100% of their performance in the digital world.

00:44We needed to come up with a methodology to do that underwater,

00:48to give them an experience that would be as close to Pandora as possible.

00:54When we walk into that empty space,

00:56it compels you to use your imagination.

01:00It's acting at its most fundamental.

01:04The heart of the film is the heart of the actor.

01:06We're not just making up images out of nothing.

01:09People work for years on the clothing,

01:11the fabrication of the props.

01:13We had to figure out how to ride a creature.

01:15You've got to build something that moves like the creature.

01:18The actors are doing everything that you see a character doing.

01:23Jim said,

01:24you're going to have to hold your breath for about three or four minutes.

01:26What was that?

01:27It was 7.15.

01:28It's very physical, immersive work,

01:34but it was an extraordinary time for me.

01:36And I need you to be strong.

01:39Right now.

01:40A strong heart.

01:42Nothing is ever easy,

01:44but we learned so much,

01:45and that's why we wanted to give you a glimpse

01:47into the spirit of the making of the film.
