Phil Smith brings Sunderland fans up to speed with all the key news updates ahead of the game with Wolves
Transcript
00:00Hi everyone, Phil here. I've just been speaking to Regis Lebris as a player at the Academy Light before the big game against Wolves on Saturday.
00:06And the news was probably about as good as we could possibly have hoped for.
00:10Noah Siddiqui obviously picked up that ankle sprain on national duty, but Lebris confirmed he will train this afternoon.
00:15The players are back in this afternoon and hopefully train tomorrow and should hopefully be able to play.
00:19Because it's an injury Siddiqui's had before and he's been able to manage.
00:22And Siddiqui feels with himself that he's actually alright.
00:24So, not for sure that he'll play on Saturday, but the signs look pretty good on that one, which is obviously a huge boost.
00:29He's been such a key player this season.
00:31Similarly, Omar Alderete, who obviously came off in the Paraguay game on Tuesday with a bit of a muscle injury.
00:36It's a little bit early to tell for sure because obviously he's had to fly back from Asia where Paraguay were playing.
00:42And he hasn't had a training session yet, so it's still a little bit early days.
00:45What Lebris did say was that initially they've had a chat with Alderete when he landed yesterday and he seems okay.
00:50So, it looks like both of them will be able to play at least some part on Saturday.
00:53And he certainly said it was possible they could both start.
00:55So, that's obviously really good news.
00:56It was probably a little bit better than we were expecting and about the best we could hope for.
01:00He spoke about a few other things, really.
01:02He spoke a little bit about Stuart Harvey's departure.
01:04Not much as he would expect.
01:05It's not really his domain.
01:07What he did kind of talk about was how Florent Gisolfi and Christian Spiegel as well are kind of remodelling that department for the Premier League.
01:14And kind of hinted, as we expected, that there'd be some more appointments made to that department in the coming months.
01:19It's something I think we'll hear more about ahead of the January window.
01:21But, you know, although Lebris didn't say it directly, I think it's clear that that department is now, by and large, Florent Gisolfi's domain, I think.
01:28And he'll be reshaping that in the weeks and months to come.
01:31So, I expect we'll hear more on that.
01:33And as you'd expect, you just spoke about Wolves and the fact that, yes, they haven't won yet this season.
01:36But they've got points against Brighton and Spurs in the last two games.
01:39And in both cases, we're very close to getting the win.
01:42Lebris making the point that if they'd been a little bit more clinical, they would have put those games to bed before the late equaliser.
01:47So, just stressing that it's a game that his team cannot afford to take lightly.
01:51Especially after they were quite outplayed in the first half of an hour against Man United.
01:54So, he kind of said that he doesn't need to stress the dangers of complacency or the dangers of taking Wolves' record this season too lightly to his players.
02:02He says he understands that, you know, they have to be at their very best.
02:04Otherwise, they'll get picked off.
02:06So, yeah, pretty encouraging stuff on the main and hopefully someone can get the job done on Saturday.
02:12But by no way will it be an easy game.
