Paul Hamilton explains the spark Zach Benson and Josh Doan provided for the Sabres in their 8-4 win.
Transcript
00:00We had a call right before the break to talk about Zach Benson.
00:02It was his first game.
00:03Their first game with Benson, his first win.
00:07Their first one, I should say.
00:08Let's talk about him because we've had a lot to say about him.
00:12He's been a nice player for the Sabres since he showed up.
00:14But the question was always, will he ever see the score sheet?
00:18And he did it in a big way last night.
00:21Right.
00:22Four assists.
00:24Even with the shorthanded goal by McLeod, he had an opportunity to score there.
00:29But still, you know, made the play.
00:32Yeah, he got stopped.
00:34But what was he doing?
00:37Even though they were shorthanded, McLeod gets the goaltender to turn the puck over.
00:42But he goes to the net.
00:44And that's what Benson's going to do.
00:46That's what Josh Doan's going to do.
00:49And they combine for seven assists between the two of them.
00:53Because they play quite a bit.
00:55They're quite the same in the way they play.
00:58And I think Josh Doan gave the fans a dose of what they're going to see from him.
01:04I think he's going to be a fan favorite the way he plays the game.
01:09And it's just like that.
01:10I mean, he's in the middle of everything.
01:11Whether it's a battle on the boards.
01:13Whether it's a battle in front of the net.
01:15And he wins those battles.
01:17And he is around the net.
01:18And, you know, he's constantly coming out with the puck when he's in bed.
01:23And that's exactly what Benson does.
01:26You know, Benson can be on his hands and knees and still protect the puck.
01:30And, you know, it's just an element of the game that they weren't getting.
01:35And he gets into the lineup and, you know, shows exactly why they have missed him.
