00:00So this is where this dramatic police chase has ended.
00:06The man has abandoned his car down the end of this lane.
00:10He had a gun, he ran through here being pursued by police.
00:14Witnesses we've spoken to, some tradies who are actually working here,
00:18say they saw the man run through, they heard shots,
00:21they believe that this man did fire a shot
00:24and they later found rubber bullets as well,
00:26so they say police discharged these.
00:29The man's then run into this hotel across here, into the lobby.
00:33We've spoken to one witness, a man here from Mexico,
00:36who's here to run the marathon, which was just on the weekend.
00:39He says that this gunman actually pointed the gun at him.
00:43He managed to run to the back of the lobby, to the restaurant,
00:47and by that point all the police officers who were swarming here
00:50ran in and arrested this man.
00:52So he had a gun and he pointed it at you and another person?
00:56Yeah, I see he pointed at me in front and I put my back on the wall
01:03and run with my back on the wall.
01:06How did you feel?
01:08It's so very weird, but I see a lot of police and they take me to the street and kept me safe.
01:20So this all started, police say that the man was driving with his wife when he became quite erratic,
01:27they ran out of petrol and the man then carjacked another vehicle.
01:31From that point he's driven to the North Melbourne area where he's carjacked a second vehicle
01:37and from there he's driven that vehicle into the city where we've seen these erratic scenes.
01:42He was driving, witnesses say sometimes at 100 kilometres an hour through the city,
01:48beeping his horn, yelling out the window and running red lights.
01:52And some witnesses say he was mounting the kerb at some points.
01:55So this obviously attracted the attention of police who followed him for some time
01:59and they followed him to the end of this lane where he's abandoned his car
02:04and then ended up in the hotel behind me.
02:06He's now in hospital undergoing assessment.
02:09derivatives equipment are proclaimed by Denise Ingger.
02:19So there's kids a lot of police say thatxtures do not have to look even later
02:24there's a lot of police say it's a lot of police say it's the time to least get settled here.
02:26It seems like it's the time to have a lot of police say it truly has way to look down
02:31to police and officers and police say that people hang out and they face it as it meer
02:32helps them to bricks andique it's safe seemed to click on the telephone and the dashboard.
