Kevin's memoir recalls one that popped up the night before their wedding ... when he caught Britney on the phone with her ex, Justin Timberlake. Kevin takes us back in time to that moment and we ask him what was going through his mind ... and he explains why they went through with their nuptials.

00:00One of the things that really struck me was a story you told about the night before your
00:09wedding involving Justin Timberlake. I got a question about this, but why don't you tell
00:16the story and then I'll ask. Yeah, so I, you know, saw her outside on the phone. She was crying
00:25the night before our wedding. I assumed that she was speaking with her mom or family member,
00:32friend, something like that. And so I went back in. We were at the Fairmont. I went back into the room,
00:38waited for her to get off the phone. When she came in, I asked her if everything was okay.
00:43And she told me that she was on the phone with Justin. And I, you know, I was shocked, obviously.
00:50Um, and, and I mean, yeah, from there, it was just like, wow, this jaw dropping moment for me.
00:59Um, you know, and she was just saying basically that she wanted to end, make sure everything was
01:06closed, closure, all that before us getting married, uh, kind of a red flag moment. Um,
01:15but yeah, I mean, from there, I basically was like, okay, look, we don't have to go through with
01:20this. You know, I didn't, it wasn't like if she was having doubts, then I'm totally happy,
01:28you know, letting things play out and just being together for a long time and deciding,
01:33figuring all of this out. Obviously. I mean, I knew this, how she felt about me. So I kind of took
01:39it for what it is and, and, you know, the rest played out. What's interesting about that is that
01:45you had, she had asked you, she proposed marriage to you. So at that point, I would think that you
01:51would go like, well, you're the one who wanted to get married, but you're like, shouldn't you
01:56have had this conversation? I would imagine what, if I were in your shoes, I would say to her,
02:00why did you have this conversation with him before you asked me to marry you?
02:04Yeah. I mean, you know, it was a spur of the moment thing, obviously. So I didn't really have
02:09time to reflect on all of it in the moment. Looking back on it now, it's easy to say a lot
02:13of things, but you know, it played out the way that it did. And, and, you know, after that,
02:18obviously we were super happy and very much in love and, and what couples are when they get married
02:25for a long time and after that. So, you know, it's funny that I see this very differently. I mean,
02:31the way I see it, if I heard something like that, it sounds like she asked you to marry her,
02:38then calls Justin. And basically it's like, I want to make you jealous enough that you'll come
02:45back to me. And I'm giving you one last chance to open that door again, uh, before I commit to him.
02:52And that's the way I heard it. In other words, so if Justin had said, if Justin had said the door's
02:58open, she would have ended the engagement. It would seem to me. I don't know if you thought that
03:03through her if I'm just wrong. No, I mean, I don't know. Like I, I, I know how she felt about
03:09me in those moments. So I think that it was, you know, I mean, you got to imagine that they,
03:15they were friends even after, you know, the breakup as horrible as their breakup was and,
03:21and how publicized their relationship was. I would imagine, you know, maybe it was the way I was
03:26thinking of it is that, you know, she was calling him like, uh, they're close, they're close at one,
03:32one point. So she wanted to, you know, but I see your point. She said very well could, I have no idea,
03:38you know, what the reasoning behind all of it was. And at the, at the time, you know,
03:42I was still young and, and, you know, things played out the way that they did.
