00:00Halloween's right around the corner, which means it's the perfect time to binge some horror movies.
00:16We've got a few new picks on Shudder you don't want to miss, and yeah, we're skipping the usual
00:20ones like When Evil Lurks and Late Night with the Devil. I've talked about those a million times
00:24already, so let's jump right in. Don't forget to hit subscribe, drop a like, and tell me your
00:29favorite horror movie in the comments. Dangerous Animals
00:33Dangerous Animals is one of the most surprising films of 2025, a shark horror you didn't see coming.
00:47It's a wild Australian horror thriller that proves you don't need a big budget to make a great movie.
00:51The story follows a shark-obsessed madman, played by Jai Courtney, who kidnaps people and feeds them
00:57to great white sharks. The main character, Zephyr, played by Hassie Harrison, is a fearless surfer
01:10who gets caught in his twisted plan, but she fights back with everything she's got. The movie is scary,
01:14fast-paced, and full of unexpected thrills.
01:19The Ugly Stepsister
01:20Some horror films shock with blood, while others disturb with silence. But Shudder's original The
01:34Ugly Stepsister does both. This Norwegian body horror gem reimagines the Cinderella myth through
01:39a grotesque feminist lens. Set in a grim, fairy-tale-like 19th-century kingdom, the story
01:44follows Elvira Lea Myron, the so-called ugly stepsister who has spent her life being overlooked.
01:50Her stepsister, Thea Sophie Lochness, is everything society deems beautiful.
02:02Determined to change that, Elvira embarks on a horrifying journey of self-modification,
02:07enduring graphic surgeries, a stitched eyelid scene that's almost unwatchable, and even swallowing
02:12a tapeworm to get thinner. All to win the prince's affection. This Norwegian film is part fairy tale,
02:18part horror, and part dark comedy. It's bizarre, unsettling, and completely captivating. The story
02:23hits hard on the pressures of beauty, and how far people will go to fit in.
02:27Asriel
02:29Asriel is a Shudder original horror film that had me asking, wait, did anyone actually say anything?
02:42Set in a post-rapture world where speech is a sin, and silence means survival,
02:46Asriel stars Samara Weaving as a mute survivor hunted by a deranged cult. She's not just running
02:51for her life, she's fighting her way through a ritualistic hellscape for humans or prey for
02:55blood-sniffing ghouls. And the wild part? It all unfolds without a single word spoken.
02:59As the cult's dark ritual nears its climax, Asriel must decide whether escaping is enough,
03:04or if vengeance is her only path to salvation.
03:14The atmosphere is haunting, the gore is beautifully brutal, and Samara Weaving commands every frame,
03:19acting with her eyes like a possessed scream queen. But fair warning, this one divides audiences.
03:24Some call it an empty gimmick, others see it as a bold, arthouse masterstroke. Either way,
03:29it's a film that dares you to watch and listen to its silence.
03:34Oddity
03:34Another 2024 Shudder original Oddity really sticks with you. It's that perfect blend of atmospheric
03:48horror and psychological tension. The story begins with Danny, who mysteriously dies after a terrifying
03:54encounter in her isolated Irish home. A year later, her widower Ted returns to the house with his new
03:59girlfriend Yana, both unaware of the dark forces still lingering there. Things take an even darker
04:04turn when Danny's sister Darcy, a blind medium, arrives.
04:07Using her supernatural abilities, Darcy begins uncovering what truly happened that night,
04:19and the truth is anything but comforting. With its moody setting and slow burn tension,
04:24Oddity pulls you in completely. Director Damian McCarthy, building on his unnerving debut Caveat,
04:29delivers a masterclass in suspenseful horror, filled with chilling atmosphere,
04:33sharp tension, and just enough jump scares to keep you on edge.
04:38The Medium
04:47The Medium, Thailand's official Oscar entry and easily one of the creepiest exorcism films of the decade.
04:53Set in the rural Yi Sun region, a documentary crew follows Nim, a shaman believed to be possessed by the
04:58spirit of a local deity named Bayan. What begins as an exploration of Thailand's shamanistic traditions
05:04quickly turns horrifying when Nim's niece, Mink, starts showing signs of possession,
05:08not by Bayan, but by something far darker and more malevolent.
05:18Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun, Shudder, and co-written by Na Hongjin, The Wailing, this found-footage
05:24mockumentary starts slow, building tension with eerie realism and cultural depth before spiraling into
05:30pure, nightmarish chaos. By the third act, it goes completely bonkers, with zombie-like ghosts and
05:35ritualistic mayhem. Yet its brutal imagery and suffocating atmosphere leave a lasting, unforgettable mark.
05:43Prevenge
05:43Prevenge
05:52Prevenge is a pitch-black comedy written, directed, and performed by Alice Lowe while she was actually
05:56eight months pregnant. The film follows Ruth, a grieving, expectant mother who believes her
06:01unborn baby is commanding her to take bloody revenge on those responsible for her partner's death. Shot in
06:06just 11 days, its raw, witty, and weirdly touching. What makes Prevenge special is its mix of eerie
06:19humor and emotional depth. It's smart, offbeat, and surprisingly heartfelt. A bold exploration of
06:25motherhood, loss, and identity that only British cinema could pull off.
06:28The Twin
06:39Twinless is one of those movies that sounds simple but hits much deeper than you expect.
06:43The story follows Roman, Dylan O'Brien, a man grieving the death of his identical twin brother.
06:49Struggling to cope with the loss, he joins a support group where he meets Dennis,
06:53a quirky and lonely man who also claims to have lost his twin. The two form an unlikely friendship,
06:58but things quickly take an unexpected turn.
07:02What's happening to me?
07:05Nick read this story as a child.
07:07What begins as a light-hearted bond, filled with awkward humor and matching Halloween costumes,
07:13slowly unravels into something haunting and unsettling. O'Brien delivers two outstanding performances,
07:19while Sweeney's sharp writing keeps you constantly guessing. The score,
07:22by Parasite composer Jung Jae-il, ties everything together beautifully.
07:28Gon Ji-yam, Haunted Asylum
07:38If you're craving a spine-tingling found footage horror, Gon Ji-yam, Haunted Asylum is a must-watch.
07:43This South Korean thriller follows a group of live streaming thrill seekers who break into a real
07:48abandoned asylum to unlock the secrets of the notorious Room 402. The movie nails that creepy,
07:54realistic vibe, using stuff like GoPros, drones, and split-screen cams to really drop you into the action.
08:07It doesn't do anything brand new for the genre, but man, the atmosphere is next level. It builds
08:12slowly, then hits you hard in the final stretch with some seriously intense scares. What really stands
08:17out is how immersive it feels. Even when you think you know what's coming, it still gets under your skin.
08:23Pontypool
08:32Set entirely in a snowbound Canadian radio station, Pontypool is a psychological horror
08:36that leans on words instead of gore. The film follows Grant Mazze, a jaded morning radio host
08:41in the tiny town of Pontypool, Ontario. One snowy morning, strange reports start coming in.
08:46Mobs of people behaving violently, speaking nonsense, and losing all sense of identity.
08:51Trapped in the radio station with his producer and assistant, Mazze tries to piece together the
08:55chaos, only to discover that the virus isn't airborne, it's word-borne.
09:06Certain English words are infecting people, turning them into raving lunatics. With most of the terror
09:11happening off-screen and told through radio transmissions, Pontypool becomes a terrifying
09:15exercise in psychological horror and the power of language.
09:20The House of the Devil
09:29The House of the Devil follows Samantha Hughes, a cash-strapped college student who takes a
09:34seemingly simple babysitting job in a remote, creepy house. Hired by the strange Olman family, Samantha is
09:39told she'll be caring for their elderly mother-in-law, but as the night progresses, it becomes clear
09:44there's far more going on than meets the eye. Samantha stumbles upon the Olman's chilling secret.
09:56They're involved in a satanic cult, and she's been lured into their dark ritual during a lunar eclipse.
10:01The movie's tension builds as Samantha's fight for survival intensifies, caught in a deadly game she
10:06never signed up for.
