00:00The story begins in 1946, Australia. It's nighttime and we see a van and a car driving along a quiet
00:08road. Inside the van are several sealed boxes marked with a bank's insignia, clearly stolen
00:16goods being smuggled somewhere illegally. Among the group are Dylan Maddock, a ruthless gangster,
00:22and his three partners, Janusz Wojcik, Dylan's right-hand man, Sean Cullen, and Dwight Lewis.
00:31During their journey, something goes wrong. Dwight loses control of the van and it crashes into a
00:37nearby river. The water is deep and the vehicle, along with all the valuable cargo, sinks beneath
00:45the surface. Sean and Dwight barely manage to escape, swimming to safety. But Dylan is furious,
00:52those boxes contained something extremely valuable. Furious, he eliminates Dwight on the spot.
00:59Sean, terrified, suggests using a crane to pull the van out, but Dylan refuses. Using heavy machinery
01:06would draw too much attention. Instead, he decides they'll need a professional diving team, experts
01:13who can work quietly and recover the goods without anyone finding out. For now, Dylan spares Sean's
01:21life. Next, we meet a small diving company run by just three people. Clara Bennett, who loves diving,
01:30Jimmy, a talented diver, and their boss Ernie Morgan, who's now addicted to alcohol. The war has just
01:38ended and life is hard. Business is slow and Ernie may soon have to sell everything to clear his debts.
01:46One afternoon, Clara and Jimmy are testing a new diving suit while Ernie sleeps off his hangover.
01:53Clara wakes him and tries to lift his spirits. Ernie feels defeated. They haven't had proper work for
02:00months and recently lost a big bridge contract. Still, Clara reassures him that things will turn around.
02:07That same day, Dylan Maddock and his partner Janusz Wojcik arrive, asking to see only the boss. From
02:16their attitude, it's obvious they're involved in something illegal. Dylan is a gangster. Besides that,
02:23he's also a racist, has a patriarchal mindset, and is a cruel man. When he meets Ernie, they realize both
02:31once served in the war with Ernie in the Navy. After a short talk, Dylan offers him a special job,
02:38but first asks if his crew can handle it. Ernie assures him that his team is the best there is.
02:46Dylan explains to Ernie that a van sank in the river, but refuses to reveal what's inside,
02:53calling it confidential. He pays a large advance, promising more once the boxes are recovered,
03:00enough to end all of Ernie's money problems. His only conditions, no reports, no questions,
03:07and the crew must only bring up the boxes. Desperate, Ernie accepts. When he tells his team,
03:14Clara feels uneasy. The job sounds risky and Dylan seems dangerous, but Ernie reminds her they haven't
03:21had work in 4 months. This money could buy a new boat, fix their gear, and even get modern diving
03:27suits. Reluctantly, Clara agrees, realizing Ernie's situation. Deep diving was her dream,
03:35and she trusts him, unaware of the danger ahead. The next day, they head to the riverbank where the van
03:42sank. Dylan greets Ernie warmly, but looks down on his crew. Clara, for being a woman, and Jimmy,
03:50for being aboriginal. Ernie defends them, insisting they're the best divers he knows. Dylan questions
03:58both. Jimmy proudly says he's spent half his life in water, while Clara boldly replies that being a
04:04woman doesn't make her weak. She's skilled and educated. Still mocking them, Dylan calls Ernie
04:12Captain Nemo. Ignoring him, Ernie sends Clara to dive first, because he didn't trust Dylan and his men,
04:19and didn't want to leave Clara alone with them. He did it for her safety. Excited, Clara suits up with
04:27Jimmy. Their old heavy diving suits are far from modern. Slow, risky, and dependent on surface air,
04:35yet they prepare to descend into the murky depths. Ernie operates the surface air pump, while Dylan and his
04:43men watch from the riverbank. Clara and Jimmy dive in. The water is about 15 to 18 feet deep. After searching,
04:52they find the sunken van and stay in contact with Ernie over the radio. Clara reports it's lying on its
04:59side, so lifting it without a crane is impossible. But Dylan doesn't care. He only wants the boxes. Underwater,
05:09they attach a guideline rope to locate the van later. Clara tries to open the door, but it's locked and
05:15the keys are missing. The murky water limits visibility. Suddenly, something brushes her, and a
05:23shark attacks, hitting her metal helmet. The blow doesn't pierce it, but snaps her airline, cutting off
05:29oxygen. Ernie panics and orders Jimmy to find her. Clara, unconscious, drifts until Jimmy reaches her
05:37and pulls her up. For a moment, Ernie fears she's dead. Then she gasps for air. Dylan and his men stay
05:45unmoved. Later, Jimmy finds a shark tooth in her helmet. Proof of the attack. Everyone is stunned.
05:52Sharks don't belong in rivers, but it's a bull shark, one that can survive in fresh and salt water.
06:00Dylan still refuses to believe it, raging at Ernie's team, until Ernie declares that no one's diving again
06:08while the shark is still out there. Dylan now needs a shark hunter, someone like Quint from Jaws,
06:16but coldly says the cost will come from Ernie's pay. After he leaves, Ernie praises Jimmy for saving
06:24Clara and asks if he saw what was inside the van. Jimmy says no, but they'll find out tomorrow. Ernie
06:32tells him to keep it secret. Later, he checks on Clara, who apologizes for failing him, but Ernie
06:39reassures her that surviving is what matters. Meanwhile, Dylan and Janusz return, saying a
06:46fisherman will arrive in the morning to deal with the shark. That night, Dylan asks Clara why she
06:53risks her life for this job. She says she loves the ocean and Ernie gave her a chance when no one else
07:00would. When she questions his own work, he refuses to answer, confirming he's involved in something
07:07illegal. Clara urges him to quit and Jimmy agrees, but Ernie says they can't. They have no other work.
07:16The next morning, before the fisherman arrives, a police officer appears. Dylan's men panic,
07:22but Dylan stays calm and lies that Sean had been driving and no one was hurt, so they didn't report
07:30it. He even mentions the shark attack and the officer believes him, then leaves. Soon after,
07:37a fisherman named Bob arrives, talkative and confident. He promises to eliminate the shark.
07:43Jimmy joins him on the boat, and Dylan forces Sean to go too. Bob sets bait, and soon the shark circles
07:51them. Jimmy fires his gun, but the bullets lose speed underwater, doing nothing. The shark rams the
07:59boat, throwing them into the river. Jimmy and Sean climb back aboard, but Bob is killed before their eyes.
08:07Horrified, Jimmy and Sean barely make it back to the riverbank alive. After Bob's death, everyone is
08:14terrified. Except Dylan, who laughs it off, mocking the situation. This angers Clara, and Ernie insists
08:22they must report everything to the police. Dylan stops him, but Ernie throws Dylan's money back,
08:29saying he's done working for him. Furious, Dylan and Janish pull their guns, threatening to eliminate
08:37them if they refuse to finish the job. Now it's clear. Those boxes contain something illegal.
08:45To stay alive, Ernie reluctantly agrees. He asks what Dylan plans to do with them afterward,
08:51and Dylan lies, claiming he'll let them go once it's over. The crew gets back to work, building a wooden
08:58sledge to pull the boxes up from the water. A short distance away from their location, they also dropped
09:05bait into the water as a decoy, hoping to distract the shark long enough to complete the job. When
09:12everything is ready, Ernie decides to dive himself, not wanting to risk Clara's life again.
09:19You're in this mess because of me, he says, so I'll be the one to end it. Soon after, Janish,
09:26who's watching the decoy, reports that the shark is caught in their trap. It's the perfect moment to
09:32dive. Ernie and Jimmy descend quickly, reaching the sunken van. Ernie opens the trunk, revealing the
09:40sealed boxes, and they begin loading them onto the sledge to pull them up. They work fast,
09:46but the load is too heavy, so Jimmy suggests removing a few boxes. Meanwhile, Janish realizes
09:54in horror that the shark has escaped the decoy. Clara warns the divers over the radio to be careful,
10:01and signals Sean to start pulling the sledge up. As Sean hauls the boxes, Clara urges Ernie and Jimmy
10:09to hide inside the van, knowing the shark could return at any second. To escape the shark's attack,
10:16Ernie and Jimmy hide inside the van, but trouble returns when the sledge gets stuck. They're forced
10:22to swim out and free it, managing to do so. But the shark strikes again, biting Ernie's arm severely.
10:31Jimmy woans it with a harpoon, freeing him, yet the shark returns and tears into Ernie once more.
10:38Clara pulls them up as Sean brings the sledge ashore. Dylan, seeing the boxes, is thrilled. Inside lies pure
10:48gold. Meanwhile, Clara and Jimmy hold the dying Ernie. Clara begs to take him to a hospital,
10:55but Dylan doesn't care. To him, Ernie's life means nothing. Moments later, Ernie dies in Clara's arms.
11:02Grief turns to fury. Jimmy grabs a knife and charges at Dylan's gang. But they have guns,
11:09and Clara holds him back. Janusz mocks him, throws down his gun, and challenges him with a knife.
11:17Jimmy hurls his blade, hitting Janusz in the shoulder. Enraged, Dylan aims to shoot, but Clara
11:24stops him, reminding him they're still needed. Some boxes remain underwater. Dylan lowers his gun,
11:32knowing it's true, yet his greed makes one thing clear. Once the job's done, he'll kill them all.
11:39Blinded by greed, Dylan beats Jimmy in a fit of rage, then locks both him and Clara inside a tent
11:46for the night. By morning, they're forced to retrieve the remaining gold boxes. Dylan orders Clara to dive,
11:54and though Jimmy protests, he's ignored. Clara puts on her diving suit and descends once again.
12:01Working fast, she manages to load the last boxes onto the sledge. While the men pull them up,
12:08Clara explores the van and finds a gun hidden under the driver's seat, which she secretly keeps. But
12:15before she can surface, the shark returns, ramming the van. Clara quickly traps it inside,
12:22sealing the doors and escaping just in time. As the boxes reach the surface, Jimmy helps pull Clara out.
12:30She shows him the gun she found and hides it away for the right moment. With the gold recovered,
12:36Dylan's job is done. Now it's time to eliminate the witnesses. He tells his men they'll weigh Jimmy and
12:43Clara down with heavy chains and sink them by the river. First, he orders them to dispose of Ernie's
12:50body. But before they can act, the police officer from earlier arrives. Seeing Ernie's corpse, he becomes
12:58suspicious. Suddenly, Sean shoots him from behind and chaos erupts. Jimmy lunges at Janusz, attacking him.
13:08Despite being wounded, the officer manages to kill Sean. But before he can fire again,
13:13Dylan shoots him dead. At that moment, Clara grabs her hidden gun and fires, wounding Dylan's hand and
13:21knocking his weapon away. Dylan dives for cover behind the van, bleeding and furious. Clara turns her
13:29attention to Jimmy, who is struggling against Janusz. Before Janusz can eliminate him, Clara shoots him,
13:35but he's still alive and her bullets run out. Janusz lunges at Jimmy again, trying to drown him, but
13:43Clara smashes her heavy diving helmet into his head, knocking him unconscious and sending him into the
13:50water. Meanwhile, Dylan grabs another gun from the car. At the same moment, the shark breaks free from
13:58the trapped van. When Clara sees Dylan approaching with the weapon, she shouts for Jimmy to jump into the
14:04river, unaware the shark is already loose. Dylan fires wildly as they dodge the bullets and run.
14:13He chases them by boat, shooting non-stop. Clara cleverly rocks the boat, causing Dylan to lose
14:19balance and fall into the water. Jimmy manages to climb out, but Clara grabs Dylan's leg, trying to
14:26drag him down. Then Jimmy spots the shark approaching and yells for her to get out of the water.
14:33Clara reaches the riverbank, grabs a gun, and aims at Dylan. Dylan taunts her, calling her a coward who
14:42can't pull the trigger. Clara hesitates, but she doesn't need to fire. In a sudden, brutal moment,
14:50the shark lunges and devours Dylan, ending his reign of terror. Sometime later, Clara and Jimmy return to
14:58their old lives. They hand over all the recovered gold to the authorities, finally putting an end to the
15:04nightmare beneath the river. One day, two visitors arrive to meet Clara and Jimmy. One of them is Ernie's
15:12attorney, who informs them that Ernie had left a will, stating that everything he owned would go to Jimmy
15:19after his death. Along with that, the bank rewards them with 2,500 Australian dollars for returning the
15:28stolen gold to the authorities. 2,500 Australian dollars. What a joke, right? After giving back
15:36millions worth of gold, that's all they got. If it were you, would you have let that much gold slip through
15:44your hands so easily? I'm just joking. Back in those days, even 2,500 Australian dollars was a lot,
15:52because according to historical records, gold used to cost around 21 Australian dollars per ounce at
16:00that time. But despite it all, Clara and Jimmy are content. With that money, they can rebuild their
16:07diving business and start fresh. And with that hopeful moment, the story of Fear Below comes to an end.
