Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s visit to the Kremlin focuses on al-Assad’s handover and the future of Russian bases in discussions with President Vladimir Putin.
00:00In his first official visit to Russia since taking office, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara arrived in Moscow where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss bilateral relations and several sensitive political and military issues.
00:20At the start of the meeting, Putin reaffirmed his country's readiness to advance joint projects with Syria, stressing the deep historical ties between the two nations and Moscow's commitment to supporting the stability of the Syrian state and serving the interests of the Syrian people.
00:41For his part, al-Shara expressed his intention to redefine the nature of relations with Russia, affirming that his government remains committed to all previous agreements between Damascus and Moscow.
00:56According to Syrian government sources, the two sides are expected to discuss highly sensitive issues, including the possible handover of Bashar al-Assad, who has been residing in Moscow since his ouster to stand trial in Damascus.
01:14Talks will also cover the future of Russia's two military bases in Syria, as well as Moscow's role in the post-Assad phase, particularly in areas of economic cooperation and reconstruction efforts.
