00:00Former Kenyan Prime Minister Rai Lodinga, who had been undergoing treatment in Kochi, India,
00:06passed away on Wednesday due to cardiac arrest.
00:10Lodinga collapsed during a morning walk within the premises of an eye facility
00:14and was rushed to one hospital within the region where he was pronounced dead at around 9.52 Indian time,
00:23according to local reports.
00:25The 8-year-old Lodinga is a prominent Kenyan politician who served as a country's Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013.
00:34A member of the Lua tribe, he entered Parliament in 1992
00:38and ran unsuccessfully for the President in 1997, 2007, 2013, 2017 and 2022,
00:47claiming to have been cheated of victory.
00:49In the last four elections, Lodinga is the son of the nation's first Vice President
00:54and was seen as the longest opposition figure in Kenya.
00:58Just like the Kenyatta family, Lodinga family have dominated Kenyan politics
01:02since the country won independence from Britain in 1963.
