In an interview with a Japanese newspaper, Taiwan's foreign minister, Lin Chia-lung, called for Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines to set up a security framework to combat China's actions in the region, such as attacking underwater internet cables and misinformation campaigns.

00:17All three countries are part of the first island chain in the Pacific, and each has
00:21maritime disputes with China.
00:23Lin also praised Japan's likely new prime minister, Takaichi Senai, saying that she
00:27could help Japan take a more active role in regional affairs.
