Alec Baldwin can't seem to catch a break ... because he was just involved in a vehicle crash in The Hamptons, TMZ has learned.

00:00In the words of the legend, Alec, you got some splainin' to do.

00:04At least that's what it seems he was doing with his wife, Hilaria,

00:08because Alec got into a car accident yesterday.

00:11And we'll get to his explanation in just a moment,

00:15but Alec and his brother, Stephen, got into a car accident out in the Hamptons.

00:20And when you see the images, you're like, it's amazing that they're both safe.

00:24It's car versus tree.

00:26But smashed the Range Rover right into this tree.

00:29Now, Alec says, his version of it is that there was a garbage truck that cut him off.

00:33We actually have sound from Alec, so he kind of gives us a loo down.

00:38He does, but what you need to know is that Range Rover, it's hilarious.

00:43And that's why he had to explain.

00:45This morning I was in this car accident.

00:47A guy cut me off in a truck, a big garbage truck.

00:49I mean, a garbage truck the size of a whale.

00:52I've never seen a garbage truck.

00:53It must have been something commercial for, like, taking away material from construction or something.

00:59It was the biggest garbage truck I've ever seen.

01:01And he—anyway, I won't go into the details now and bore you, but to avoid hitting him, I hit a tree.

01:08I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car, my wife's car.

01:14I feel bad about that.

01:15But it's all fine, and I'm fine, and my brother's fine.

01:17Why was it so bad that it's his wife's car?

01:21He should just be happy that they're safe.
