00:00Well, there are a range of changes coming into effect today, not only for riders but
00:07also for operators supplying these e-bikes, which includes heavy fines.
00:14Now, this legislation will be an Australian first regulation on e-bikes and it comes after
00:22a parliamentary inquiry into e-bikes and e-scooters.
00:27Now, here in New South Wales, e-bikes aren't tightly regulated, as you can see around me.
00:34People can just hire bikes and dump them whenever they're finished, creating hazards for other
00:40cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
00:43Now, under this new legislation, councils will be given the power to determine specific parking
00:49bays for these e-bikes in and around towns and as well as outside of public transport
00:55stations.
00:56They'll also be determining no-go zones for e-bike riders as well as slow zones.
01:04And as part of, sorry, if the bikes aren't parked in these specific parking bays, operators could
01:13be slapped with a hefty fine of $55,000 plus an additional $5,000 if the bikes aren't removed
01:21for each day that they're not removed.
01:24And it's not just about keeping the pathways and the streets clear and tidy.
01:29It's also about ensuring riders are safe, so operators will also be responsible for educating
01:36riders and supplying helmets before they hire a bike.
01:40So when this legislation does come into effect today, it will be interesting to see what impact
01:46it will have.
01:47So when this legislation will be able to determine the bus, it will be a safe to have, it will be a great
01:53opportunity to hear you to be able to handle the bus, so that they're not going to be able to
01:55be able to do this.
01:56So when this legislation is going to be able to handle this, it will be a big deal for you to
01:58be able to handle this.
