00:00I'm at the Southern Rail Depot in Selhurst where a five-year project costing £100 million to
00:07renovate more than 300 trains has just been completed. Now these trains are used every day by
00:13tens of thousands of commuters going in and out of Victoria, down to Brighton and across the
00:18southern home counties. We're actually seeing a lot more passengers coming back onto the railway
00:23than we previously did in terms of the pre-COVID era. I would say we're nearly there, we're nearly
00:27back to pre-pandemic levels. Millions of customers and passengers will experience this upgrade onto
00:33these trains and that's exactly why we're here today to do that, to celebrate the modification,
00:37to celebrate the investment into the asset but also into industry to really benefit the passage chain.
00:42What do the changes involve? Well at your seat there'll be charging points for your phone,
00:47there's better lighting, there's better information but crucially as well there are changes underneath
00:52the train that should improve reliability and keep these trains on track for at least another 15 years.
00:59The key thing here was that we took passenger feedback, GTR took passenger feedback and incorporated
01:04that into the designs and that's what you can see all around you really so bringing them up to a very
01:08modern standard, making their passenger experience better and we've also invested in the technology as
01:16well inside the train and so on to make the trains more reliable and ultimately improve overall
01:21that those passenger journeys much lighter and brighter and better connected.
