Eurovision cancels vote over Israel's competing in song contest

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has pushed to December a vote planned for next month over Israel's Eurovision participation after the Israel-Hamas ceasefire.

00:00A vote over Israel's participation in Eurovision has been pushed back.
00:07The organizers of the song contest, the European Broadcasting Union,
00:11had initially planned the vote for next month,
00:13after several countries threatened to boycott the event if Israel's entry was upheld.
00:19Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia all stated they would withdraw
00:24if Israel was allowed to participate.
00:27In response, Germany said it could do so if Eurovision decided to exclude Israel.
00:33However, now following the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas,
00:37the EBU announced the vote will take place in December.
00:40No specific date has been scheduled for a final decision,
00:44but it's reported that discussions are set to resume once it becomes clearer if the ceasefire will hold.
00:50Austria, which is due to host the 2026 contest after its win last year,
00:55has praised the delaying of the poll.
