The Philippines and Croatia agreed to expand and strengthen their relations across a range of sectors, including labor, defense, and trade, as Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro and Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman held a bilateral meeting on Monday, Oct. 13.
00:00I think I can only describe Philippine-Croatian relations in an optic trend in the sense that the presence alone of the foreign minister in the first time he's visiting a Southeast Asian country is already a manifestation of the relations and it's not only evolving as it stands right now, it's in a very good situation.
00:24But as it evolves further, then there will be definitely, as per our discussions, an expansion and a strengthening of our relations.
00:33Well, you were asking about the EU. I think we have had also a number of discussions and a number of meetings with the European Union.
00:48Just to give you a definite example, I have requested for the foreign minister of Croatia to support us in the fourth round of negotiations on the FDA, the free trade area between the Philippines and the EU.

01:10Of course, the relations of the EU is on a more bigger scale, but I think the relations are also going very strong.
01:21In fact, just last week, a number of senior officials from the Philippines went to Brussels to have discussions on governance, human rights, maritime cooperation.
01:34There will be another set of cooperation. There will be another set of meetings in these coming days.
01:41And this just, again, points out to the strength of the relations between the Philippines and the EU.
01:52But with Croatia, this alone is a manifestation. His presence alone is a manifestation of an expanding relations and strengthening. Thank you.

03:44There are six Croatian strategic ports on the coast, Adriatic Sea, and it's a very close entry point.
