00:00This is Police Interceptors.
00:04Police Interceptors are all I for.
00:06I'm going to tell my kids about this.
00:08And you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:11Speed one, two, zero.
00:14Ace Pursuit drivers.
00:16Contact, contact, contact.
00:18With air support.
00:19Got two out, stand by.
00:21I'm out.
00:22And a crack dog unit.
00:24If you leave, you will get hit.
00:26They bring down the bad guys.
00:30I believe you're one in the moment.
00:32Keep the streets safe.
00:35He won't put your arms behind him.
00:37Get on the floor.
00:39And battle 24-7.
00:41Get down on the floor.
00:43In the war on crime.
00:45Crash, crash.
00:47On the floor now.
00:48This is what it is, isn't it?
00:49We find them, we lock them up.
00:53Coming up.
00:54The interceptors battle road tax rage.
00:57Get on the floor.
01:00Get back!
01:01Get back!
01:02Get back!
01:03This is going to fail to stop.
01:05Service station thieves are caught in the act.
01:08There's parcels falling out of the back of the vehicle.
01:11And...
01:12There it is.
01:13The mystery of the vanishing van driver.
01:16He's parked it very interestingly.
01:19There were over 40,000 assaults on police officers in England and Wales last year.
01:40Situations the interceptors face can change in a heartbeat.
01:47Dan and co-pilot Catalin from the neighbourhood policing team are on their way to a routine check on a motor.
01:53I received a call a few days ago that there's an untaxed vehicle parked on the road.
02:00If the vehicle's here that's untaxed, that'll be seized.
02:04Because I believe the tax hasn't been paid on it for over a year now.
02:10That's the vehicle there.
02:12One untaxed Nissan Navara exactly where they expect it to be.
02:22To try to find the owner, Catalin does some digging on the number plate.
02:27There's no insurance on it.
02:29MOT will aspire in 2024.
02:33And it has no tax since 2022.
02:35There's no insurance on it either?
02:36No.
02:39I mean, to be fair mate, it might have just been dumped here or something.
02:41Yeah.
02:42A solid theory.
02:44Until a woman says she's spoken to the owner of the pickup truck.
02:48Can he come here without, because I don't want to take his car away.
02:51Because he has no, no, no tax on it.
02:54He has traders.
02:56Yeah, you can't have traders mate on, on, you need to have a number on it
03:00for me to check that he's paying tax.
03:03Which I don't, I can't verify, he's paying tax.
03:06Yeah.
03:07Yeah.
03:08It's a clear cut job.
03:09Without any proof of tax or traders insurance, the pickup truck can be seized.
03:15Hello, can I arrange, please, a vehicle recovery, no tax.
03:20However, the news isn't going down well with the residents.
03:25Standing in here like you're the man.
03:26No.
03:27You're a stick mate.
03:28Absolutely smoky with your uniform, I promise you I would.
03:32Or the untaxed motor's owner, who's just rolling up.
03:35Okay.
03:37You're taking what?
03:38You're taking what?
03:39You won't take nothing mate.
03:40Okay.
03:41You won't take nothing mate, I'm a trader.
03:42Okay.
03:43I promise you you won't take nothing mate.
03:45Is that your car, is it?
03:46There's nothing you can do mate.
03:47It doesn't look like a calm chat is on the cards.
03:49And the interceptors are outnumbered.
03:50Can we have another wind unit here, please?
03:52What do you mean can you have another unit?
03:53Get away from my vehicles mate.
03:55I am a trader.
03:56There's nothing you can do.
03:57Yeah.
03:58Show me that.
03:59Mate, stay back.
04:00Stay back.
04:01Don't touch me brother mate.
04:02Yeah.
04:03I promise you.
04:04Is this your vehicle?
04:05Listen, don't think you're a hero because you're not.
04:06Listen to me, is this your vehicle?
04:07I am sick of you because you're tramps mate.
04:09That's all you are.
04:10Okay.
04:11Want to come around and just try to think you can just take anything you want.
04:12Okay.
04:13You won't mate.
04:14It's been untaxed.
04:15It's been untaxed over a year.
04:16I've just bought it.
04:17I'm a trader.
04:18I get to drive with no tax for two weeks if I really want to.
04:20No.
04:21There you go.
04:22Mate, you don't know.
04:23I'm a trader.
04:24Okay.
04:25Show me that trader.
04:26Yes.
04:27I'll show you my trader's policy now.
04:28Get me this key for this thing now.
04:30Just calm down, buddy.
04:31Calm down.
04:32Move.
04:33Get out of my way.
04:34No.
04:35I'm not going to move.
04:36There's nothing you can do.
04:37There's nothing you can do.
04:38I can do.
04:39You're not getting in there.
04:40Take this stupid thing off mate and I guarantee you couldn't do one thing.
04:41Okay.
04:42I promise you you couldn't.
04:44Before long, the irate owner's name calling.
04:47Yeah, sure.
04:48I'm going to show you my policy.
04:49Don't you think you moron.
04:51Escalates.
04:52You think you're a hero because you've got this stupid thing on, brother.
04:55Take this off.
04:56I'll break your head.
04:57That's about that.
04:58We don't think we're heroes.
04:59You couldn't, mate.
05:00I promise you.
05:01We're just doing our job.
05:02Mine.
05:03Mine.
05:04See?
05:05Mine.
05:06Now move.
05:07It's a standoff.
05:08Mate, I'm telling you, you're not getting into that.
05:09I'm telling you.
05:10Catalin tries again to reason with the owner.
05:11Show me that you're a trader.
05:13Okay.
05:14And you can prove to me that you can drive this without a tax.
05:17Yeah, okay.
05:18And I'm not taking it.
05:19I'll show you what.
05:20Yeah.
05:21There you go.
05:22That's all we want to see.
05:23Yeah.
05:24Pass your phone.
05:25The owner phones his dad and asks him to bring proof of a trader's policy.
05:29Is he, can he get the policy?
05:31Yeah.
05:32Okay.
05:33Well, if he can get the policy, we'll just wait.
05:35But the pause in hostility doesn't last long.
05:38Where are you from?
05:39My detail is this.
05:40This.
05:41Do not like brassism.
05:42I guarantee if you turn back into your own country in that uniform, they'd probably be
05:45edger.
05:46Okay.
05:47That's probably what they would do to you.
05:48A simple seizure of an untaxed motor is taking a sinister turn.
05:51If you want to.
05:52Dad, please, can you just get this paperwork?
05:54This fat knob's pissing me off.
05:56Fortunately, the cavalry are arriving.
05:59Yeah?
06:00Let me find out what's going on.
06:01You're saying chill, but it's, don't do that.
06:04Come on, don't do that.
06:05Along with a recovery truck ready to lift the untaxed Navara.
06:09Literally two minutes and then I'll let you know.
06:12However, they are closely followed by another truck driver.
06:17Who's seen red?
06:22What do you want?
06:27What's the need for that?
06:28What?
06:29What's the need for that?
06:30Blocking the road.
06:31I know, because we're dealing with an incident here.
06:33So am I.
06:35Idiot.
06:40The raging driver is pushing ahead.
06:45Forcing recovery further down the road.
06:48What are you looking at?
06:51Right, you chill out.
06:52Because otherwise you'll get yourself locked up for public order.
06:54Move.
06:55You move.
06:56And stop swearing.
06:57Go on, go.
07:00Oh my days.
07:03You're lucky.
07:04You need to go somewhere.
07:05Go.
07:06I can't go before I did anything.
07:07Sounds familiar, because he's the untaxed motor owner's father.
07:12And he's about to kick off.
07:15Stop.
07:16Stop.
07:17Stop.
07:18Stop.
07:19In Northampton, Dan and Catalin's simple inquiry into an untaxed Nissan Navara is going from nought to a hundred.
07:39I'm going to show you my policy. Don't you think you moron?
07:43First, the owner turned up making threats.
07:45Take this off, I'll break your head.
07:49And now his dad has arrived.
07:54And he is even more volatile.
07:58Can you leave the car? Can you get out of the way, please?
08:00Yeah, no, don't even get my car.
08:03Let's move out of the way.
08:05Get out of the way.
08:10Buddy, can you get out of the way for us, please?
08:12Get out of the way. You don't want to get yourself hurt.
08:15An officer tries to defuse the situation.
08:17Get up!
08:19But the family's hit boiling point.
08:23Dad, leave it.
08:25Dad, leave it.
08:26The whole team rush to assist and Catalin is forced to pull the Parva spray.
08:34Get on the floor.
08:35even with a full face of parva dad is still resisting
08:42more people are gathering
08:53and the aggressive son isn't backing down
09:05the Sarge draws his taser the prospect of 50,000 volts does the job
09:18whilst getting the dad in cuffs the son flees in his golf
09:28yeah you made off you made off driven off driven off
09:35we're gonna lift trucks fun during the altercation someone's also driven off in
09:42the untaxed Navara
09:49after coming down he was holding his dad was going for me
09:53yeah holding his dad back and then he's gone so he hasn't actually like touched me
10:00the simple seizure of an untaxed motor has escalated to cops on the lookout for one
10:06man as well as both of his cars and his parved father being nicked for public order
10:13yeah there's times like this you realize how much you can rely on your colleagues to come and assist
10:23the team wastes no time in getting back on the road to find the son on the run
10:29sometimes you know you can meet someone who's really angry but if you talk to them in the right way
10:34some people respond better to that you know that's works most of the time luckily
10:38but it's the people who can't de-escalate and we may need to resort to using PPE
10:43so like like Catalan did today with the parva spray
10:46sometimes we have to you know use force which is portion to be able to get a situation under control
10:51to make sure that we don't get injured and members of the public don't get injured either
10:56within the hour there's some search success
11:01they found the golf
11:05another unit finds the son's white golf unattended and they seize it
11:10if he wants to get his car back he's going to need to present himself to get that
11:14so at some point he's going to his luck is going to run out unfortunately
11:19and he'll have to answer what he thought he's done
11:23interceptors also picked up the untaxed Navara that afternoon
11:30the owners look ran out when he was arrested the following day
11:36he pleaded not guilty to assaulting and obstructing the police
11:39but guilty to using threatening words and behavior
11:42he was ordered to pay 141 pounds in fines
11:46after some time in the cells no further action was taken against the father for public order
11:52some of the country's main arterial routes such as the M1 and the A14 run through Northamptonshire
12:10and these rows are often hit hard by travelling crime gangs committing curtain side thefts from lorries
12:19what you'll tend to get is a spotter vehicle which will go into the service areas
12:24cut the curtain fabric of the lorries and then if it's worth taking
12:28they will normally call forward a carrier vehicle and the team will then go about emptying the context
12:37in the back of the curtain side into their vehicle
12:41it can be quite a difficult crime to detect because a lot of times the lorry drivers are asleep
12:47so don't hear it it's a big problem but I think we do quite a good job at trying to prevent it
12:54and also pursue it as well
13:01to crack down on the country's 66 million pound cargo crime problem
13:06there's a national police operation
13:09up barrack
13:12tonight dog handler Lucy and canine crime fighter Bryn are on barrack duty
13:17looking to catch the thieves red-handed
13:23we'll just be checking service stations
13:26lorry lay-bys lorry parks
13:30anywhere really where suspects could park up and try and steal loads from the back of HGVs
13:39it's just a little bit of luck and a little bit of looking in the right place
13:44the right place tonight is a service station off the A14
13:51Lucy spots a van parked up next to a lorry
13:55and the driver isn't sticking around
13:59the vehicle check please
14:06loaded with loot tail lift still down
14:10I think we've just come across a barrack in progress
14:13this is going to fail to stop
14:16Lucy has caught curtain side thieves in the act
14:19we're now a 605 north
14:22it is failing to stop
14:26it's a hasty getaway with a van load of stolen goods
14:29if the driver can keep hold of them
14:34there's parcels falling out of the back of the vehicle
14:41we're now into Thrapston
14:44I think there was some other people in the hedge line
14:47there was torches flashing in the hedge line
14:49it's likely the crime gang had to spot a car as well as this van
14:54unluckily for the van driver
14:56it's him Lucy got a glimpse of
14:59from what I could see of the driver
15:02it was a fairly well built male
15:04wearing like a light coloured grey jumper
15:07still into Thrapston village
15:09speed 27 low risk
15:11as pursuits go it's strangely slow and steady
15:15he was panicking isn't he?
15:17he didn't know what to do
15:18perhaps the thieves don't want to risk losing any more loot
15:22left left
15:25speed 23
15:27or perhaps they're looking for somewhere to bail out
15:34as the passenger side opens
15:36one is out and running
15:39it's touch and go
15:42he's still going isn't he?
15:45I've had one bail out on Thrap
15:47stand by
15:48but the van comes to a stop
15:50running now would not be a wise move
15:55stay there
15:57there's another suspect also in the passenger seat
16:02I've got one detained
16:04one's run off
16:05I need officers to me
16:07put your handbrake on mate
16:08put the handbrake on
16:09put the handbrake on
16:10put the handbrake on
16:11right we'll put it in gear then
16:12no it's not it's rolling mate
16:16too late
16:18it's rolled backwards into my car
16:21but a prank to the Skoda is a small price to pay for bagging a suspected thief
16:27this male is compliant
16:29he was the driver for certain
16:31although he's now sitting in the passenger seat
16:33Bryn Spark may have stopped one suspect from running
16:37just so we've covered the legal side at the minute you're under arrest for failing to stop
16:42alright
16:43but with another unit on scene to deal with the driver
16:46Bryn and Lucy turn their attention to looking for his accomplice
16:51wait a minute
16:58dream team Lucy and five year old German shepherd Bryn once tracked three armed robbers who'd taken a car at gunpoint
17:06yes yes I've got like an office block to my left
17:09we're tracking up towards the car park
17:12and this evening Bryn's finely tuned sense of smell
17:15one seven where I am the dogs indicating over the fence to some back gardens
17:21he's catching a whiff of curtain sight thief
17:24he's definitely gone this way but it's a spiked fence
17:29finding a way into the garden on the other side
17:33where is he then?
17:35Bryn is drawn to a shed which has been left wide open
17:42they've been in there haven't they?
17:44hands locked
17:46I think he's gone back because he was all in that garden
17:48it looks like the thief could be on the move
17:57taking a left down another alleyway
17:59tracking quite strongly now
18:03the canine cop has a solid lead
18:05so we're tracking down the hill
18:08until all of a sudden the track goes cold
18:11this is a pick up point
18:18100%
18:20tried him in all four directions and he's just nothing
18:24he came flying down here as well
18:26despite Bryn's best efforts Lucy suspects the runner has been picked up by other gang members in the spotter car
18:33he's worked his nuts off bless him he's done really well
18:36good lad
18:38people
18:39good boy
18:40yes he is
18:42he's a good lad
18:44what's the best way back from here?
18:46back at the scene cops have discovered the getaway van is a stolen vehicle on false plates
18:51and the bloke Lucy arrested is a disqualified driver
18:56clearly he was pretending he wasn't the driver
18:58because he was sat in the passenger seat when we got round to him
19:01which is an age old trick
19:04but unfortunately for him I saw him in the driver's seat
19:08so unlucky
19:09to come across a crime in progress like that is quite rare
19:15and to obviously get the driver of the stolen vehicle arrested is a brilliant result
19:19really really pleased
19:21good boy
19:22good boy
19:23come on then
19:24in
19:25good lad
19:26good boy
19:28good boy
19:30next stop the services to continue the investigation
19:36not before a little carriageway clear up
19:40this is one of the boxes that came out of that van
19:45can't tell what it is but we'll take it back to the lorry
19:49can have that back
19:52that back at the service station it looks like more boxes were destined to be stolen had lucy
19:58not intercepted so this will be where they've cut the side to have a look at um what's inside
20:05and then they've evidently tried to pull some of the bits out of here to see what the property is
20:12it looks like it's electronic equipment of some description uh sound bar subwoofers it's going to
20:23be relatively expensive electronic equipment i would say um and given that that luton van was
20:30half full of these boxes um i would say we've probably prevented quite a high value theft
20:36um from taking place so yeah good high value indeed lucy recovered around 3500 pounds worth of stolen
20:47goods the man in the van is awaiting trial for stealing from the lorry driving whilst banned
20:54and without insurance no legal action was taken against him in relation to the damage to lucy's car
21:02or the nicked van coming up we've got a town center c3 uh see our vehicle swerving
21:16the interceptors go looking for a drink driving suspect what was that about what's moving out
21:21of the way traffic and the van crash suspect goes looking for the interceptors
21:27god this is my vehicle i just had to get my insurance details from my friend's house oh interesting
21:45north hamptonshire is home to nearly three quarters of a million people
21:50many will take to the roads during rush hour and could face increased dangers
21:54the main issues of driving during rush hour is just the volume of traffic and the fact that
22:03people tend to be quite impatient if a car loses control where there's a lot of pedestrians around
22:11for instance like children walking over from school it can be catastrophic really for them because cars are
22:17effectively um one-ton killing machines
22:34it's the friday morning rush hour and interceptor calum donoghue is blue lighting through traffic to the
22:41scene of a crash a van has apparently collided with a pole um and the drivers fled from the scene
22:47we're gonna really need to try and identify where the driver's gone and work out the reason why they
22:52fled from the scene
22:56calum has an early prediction on the reason for the driver's disappearing act
23:01i would normally be suspecting drink or drugs
23:03so see what we can find when we get there at 8 15 in the morning north hampton streets are busy with
23:10commuters and families on the school run
23:15there it is
23:18this crash and dash has caused serious damage but it could have been lethal
23:22very proper six one they're passing the red for this van
23:34after plowing into a pedestrian crossing the abandoned van is wedged on the top of the railings
23:39and blocking one lane of traffic
23:41uh lady out there said he's done a red light yeah lori's flipped him then he's made off oh interesting
23:54where's the lady whilst the fire crew fight any further danger by disconnecting the wrecked van's
24:00battery calum speaks to the eyewitness to say it happened because i came out of brad's office it
24:05happened yeah as i run you like he done a runner so what was this description um about five eight
24:12yeah very skinny crew cut hair um beige colored shorts white train blue top
24:20he's stupid why are you so eager to get across the red light for it's red there's emptying traffic at
24:28this time of the morning it's a stupid move thankfully no one seems to have been injured
24:36it's pretty stable it's not gonna yeah yeah so if you're happy we'll leave you too absolutely
24:40mate that's fine now the scene is safe calum can focus on solving the mystery of the vanishing van
24:47driver we'll wait for the vehicle to get recovered and then we'll go around to the
24:52address where it's registered to and see if we can speak to the driver or the owner um
24:58see if he's using drugs or any alcohol see what his explanation is for
25:02this because he's parked it very interestingly
25:06even more interestingly the runaway driver has left their motor unlocked and full of expensive power
25:12tools there'll be a bigger reason behind it and it's annoying me because i'm yet to find out why but
25:19leave it with us we'll get an answer by the end of the day an answer might present itself sooner
25:24than calum is expecting all right this is my vehicle i just had to go and get my insurance
25:29details from my friend's house oh interesting sorry the van driver has come back what happens
25:34basically the lights change so the lorry come around here yeah and i've had to swear to mr lorry
25:38who ended up going up the basically so i didn't hit anything i thought i hit the central reservation
25:43oh how fast were you going only 30. what 30 from there that takes a bit of force doesn't it huh
25:51that takes a bit of force to get it up there oh i was yeah i was doing 30 right um have you got your
25:56license on you yes calum is an advanced driver who is trained to handle anything from a high
26:04performance pursuit car to a riot van or a four by four response car
26:10if you've been involved in a collision i'll have to put you on a breath test and a drug test as
26:13well just to make sure that's all fine is this van crash just a simple accident or are calum's
26:19suspicions about drink or drugs correct just make a seal around it with your lips and one long
26:25continuous blow until i tell you to stop okay keep going keep going keep going keep going keep going
26:29stop that's the time at the same time as you zero one test passed one to go so not as i first assumed
26:39um we'll still wait on the results of the drug wipe he's very nervous but he came back and i'd argue
26:47if there was something more to hide he probably wouldn't have come back
26:49another unit are on route with the drug wipe kit in the meantime calum and a recovery worker are
26:57coming up with a plan to get the van off the rush hour roads let this lot go through do you need
27:04this one closed as well leave that one open just this bit yeah he's somehow going to go over there
27:09and lift it onto the back of his truck so we've got to close the whole road which will be interesting
27:13because everyone wants to try and squeeze past this morning already all i've got to do is set the
27:18crane up put the crane above it pick it and we're away cool at the next red light the recovery truck
27:25moves in calum closes the second lane you can't get that way because the van the way can't get that
27:32way because truck will be in the way cheers mate and operation van lift begins
27:37weighing in at over a ton the van is wrenched from the railings
27:51i bet he's great at the grabber machines in the arcade
27:58job done with a clearer view calum notices a problem with one of the tires
28:04there's one here you've got enough tread on them ain't they i've got cord showing
28:12bald tires can increase stopping distances but so can drug driving
28:21having got the rush hour traffic moving again another officer has arrived with a drug wipe test
28:26cheech just get some saliva on the nd channel for me do you take drugs at all no
28:30and then just three front okay so it takes eight minutes to fully work all right it's going to give
28:36us a reading of uh cannabis or protein and just hopefully nothing now i play the waiting game
28:44one in 20 fatalities on our roads are caused by drug drivers
28:50within minutes it looks like calum's suspicions could be correct
28:53uh you see on the bottom one yeah there's a second line under there right okay that shows
29:00that it's testing positive for cocaine shouldn't do well that's what the machine says so at this
29:05moment in time you're under arrest okay i'm suspicious of drug drive uh you don't have to
29:09say anything but it may harm your defense if you don't mention one question something you should
29:11later on in court anything you do say may be given evidence having failed the roadside drug test
29:17the van driver is taken to custody to give a blood sample for forensic testing obviously it's a
29:23friday morning there's lots of pedestrian traffic about as we saw kids going to school etc it was on
29:29quite a main road in northampton and for him to make that sort of maneuver to be wedged into the
29:35fence he was doing a bit of speed just lucky no one was stood in the middle of the crossing when
29:41that collision did happen blood test results confirmed the van driver was over the limit for
29:48cocaine he pleaded guilty to drug driving was banned from the roads for 17 months
30:02when it comes to collisions involving drink drivers the number of fatalities are at their highest level
30:07for more than a decade setting his sights on taking those over the limit off the road is harrison beverly
30:15so we're on a sunday night shift um we've got the england match on tonight the first match of the
30:20euros against serbia so um expect it could be a bit busier than normal for sunday night um potentially on
30:27the roads you're looking at people that have been watching the match few drinks potentially um
30:31so we'll keep an eye out for that
30:35football fan harrison supports middlesbrough fc as the knight draws in he's pleased to learn that
30:41england have scored a win however lord i'm just off the junction 10 now are you still
30:49barn road out of town yes right interceptors v suspected drink driver is about to begin
30:56we've got a town center c3 uh i see a vehicle swerving uh nearly hit um another vehicle i think so
31:04we're gonna go get my leg up with getting the vehicle stopped fellow interceptor lloyd is already
31:10behind the erratic driver so harrison is plotting up ready to join us back up yeah it's got four or five
31:18occupants i think he said so it's um we want to try and get stopped and obviously just been seen driving
31:23that bad on camera just double checking out of a drink or anything you know it's the england match
31:27tonight you'd hope that people are sensible but should be coming past us in a second
31:41harrison falls in directly behind the suspect happy with compliance stop junction 10 lloyd reckon
31:47yeah four passengers in a car with a suspected drink driver could be a recipe for disaster
31:59see if that stopped here it's a bit of safe that arose for us without delay they're lighting him up
32:04either he's failing to stop or something might be slowing the driver's reactions
32:17just as lloyd calls it in the suspect comes to a stop
32:28so
32:39what was that about i was moving out of the way traffic you weren't give it all
32:42i was no leave it all come out of the road stop no damage
32:46you've got the keys it's five off at the minute yeah lloyd gets straight to the point
32:51the reason we're stopping you mate is um we might be driving quite bad in the town center
32:59any alcohol you can see here i had a couple of points while we were watching the euros that was
33:03it when was your last drink it's 25 past midnight now good hour ago you had to try to stress me
33:11left the roadside yeah refusing the breathalyser is an offence in itself
33:18if this footy fan's got nothing to hide it's in his interest to play ball okay i said i'll hold on
33:24to the device and i should take a big deep breath and blow until i tell you to stop please
33:29blow and you're not blowing okay yeah stop messing around okay yeah yeah imagine you blow a balloon
33:37okay you know you can't trick the machine all right if you're not blowing if you don't blow hard enough
33:41again then it's what's called failing to provide we should be arrested all right do you understand
33:45yeah lovely big deep breath blow out until i tell you to start keep going keep going keep going
33:52keep going lovely thank you that'll analyze the sample breath that you've given us
33:59legal limit at the roadside is 35.
34:01that's a fail at 72 so it's one of them timing under arrest for driving or service for
34:07no alcohol i'm standing don't be defensive you want to try and question some touch on the court
34:11nothing you do so you can give him evidence all right put your hands out i think it's all right
34:13you might have a quick take my vote mate he's going to be sent off to custody
34:19shouldn't drive like idiot mate and his mate will be taking the safer option of a stroll home
34:26after a word from harrison i would say filming and laughing at your mate who's now with us is pretty
34:31stupid yeah please step out the car
34:39good job you don't want people like this driving especially with passengers in the vehicle
34:42you know he's he's double the drink drive limit potentially prevented a serious accident
34:48drink drivers kill people i've got no sympathy
34:51what time am i going to be out tomorrow i don't know you got work i don't know you got work
34:59i'm going to be getting pissed for half five yeah you won't be going to work at half five mate
35:04and there's one more bit of bad news for the driver probably he's failed to stop initially
35:10we're going to get a second section 59 warning mate which means we're going to seize your car
35:14section 59 warnings are issued for anti-social driving
35:18thanks to his earlier dodgy driving he's totted up two section 59s within 12 months
35:25and his motor is shown the red card i think he's got some regrets when he wakes up later today
35:34after failing the breath test of custody he was convicted of drink driving and disqualified for 18
35:39months he also had to pay 859 pounds in costs and a fine
35:48and another set of wheels bombing along the pavement is raising eyebrows for ian bayliss
36:07that ride could land this bloke in hot water he claims he's just picked up the electric quad bike
36:32for his son you can't ride that on the road i thought i thought it was just like it's like a
36:37mobility scooter yeah it's not it's a motorcycle so technically you need insurance yeah a driving
36:44license and everything and have you got any of that i have yeah you've got it all i've got i've got a
36:50driver license you've got insurance see that's where i have to take it now i think my place he's
36:56literally just got it where do you live i'll push it back down honestly push it back that cannot be on
37:01the road i'll push it back okay i'll take it out i'll put it in pocket and i'll push it back
37:07potentially ian could seize the mini motor it's classed as a mechanically propelled vehicle
37:13which is a it's effectively a motorcycle yeah same as a quad doesn't matter if it's electric electric
37:20i don't think they've got it no but he decides the best road to take here is some words of advice
37:27if he wants to ride it you have to take it somewhere private land you can't just blast down
37:32especially pavements as well and the good old section 59 warning comes in handy again
37:38if this is seen on the road again yeah okay i'll put a thing in with your name on it
37:44it applies to you and the bike and then we take it yeah sorted right walk it
37:55thank you very much he can stay on it but you're walking and you hit riding it
38:00thank you all right good luck thank you anyone else that took that damn right yeah see you later
38:06two happy customers walk their new main machine home
38:16still to come hello there oh a rescue mission on the a14 you got it you're on and griff gets a couple
38:27of new crewmates
38:47as we've already seen the interceptors don't always get a warm reception
38:52but managing suspects is only part of their day-to-day duties a vast chunk of our time isn't
38:58dealt with chasing criminals down um it's dealt with helping people and undoubtedly that's what
39:04drives most cops to get out of bed in the mornings the roots of policing it's all about community it's
39:10about serving the communities in which we live um to try and make people's days a little bit better and
39:17to make those communities safer places
39:25in the west of the county worrying reports are coming in about a breakdown on the a14
39:41this afternoon chris is joined by fellow interceptor aaron griff griffiths
39:45who's putting his foot down just like the occupants are out the vehicle but stood in the live lane
39:50so you've got traffic traffic traveling at 70 miles an hour uh maybe something
39:57some higher speed so see that's a concern that is as reported
40:02the call is being treated as a grade one emergency
40:09to reach the stranded couple the interceptors are up against building traffic
40:12just on a grade one uh quick back
40:18griff received a police commendation for saving the life of someone involved in a crash
40:23he's armed with advanced driving skills
40:28which are coming in handy today
40:31fair bye fair bye thank you very much
40:34another unit are first for the scene griff and chris aren't far behind
40:38you got them on mate and raise and rates and we've arrived
40:45fellow interceptor james fills them in lady bless is ever so emotional because she's got scared
40:51a bit of all the lorries beeping up um so i've reassured them told them what we're going to do
40:55to tow them off but towing eyes not missing so we're going to have to do a bit of a thing on the
40:59what's the underneath if you stay if you stay where you are jc goes in front while griff and james
41:05move their marked cars into a position to shield and tow the broken down renault chris comforts the
41:11shaken driver hello there oh it'll be all right my love hello hello the couple were on their way to
41:21wales on holiday when disaster struck for driver sue it's just come up with the red light say an
41:27engine failure and it's not a palm or that's it nothing else no sound nothing it's never happened
41:36to me not in 40 odd years
41:37the interceptors need to move fast to tow the elderly couple to safety where do you think of
41:57where you're thinking of putting it
42:02a missing towing eye puts a spanner in the works but chris is on the case
42:08although i think lucky might have said might have sussed out somewhere for it to go
42:13if you got it you're on good to go james and the gent will be out front on towing duty
42:24chris will ride in the renault whilst griff sometimes these things happen
42:29and not but they're flipping a 14 of all
42:36is crewing up with sue and her canine companion good when you are josey and we're off
42:43if it ever happens in the future first thing you must do is call the police
42:47between 40 and 70 miles an hour if you break down a road like that and you can't get the car out of the
42:51road yeah get out of the car and call us straight away right yeah because we'll come out and even
42:56if we have to just shut the road keep keep you safe uh shut the lane then we'll do that
43:02the team tow the renault off the a14 and onto a side road
43:07where the couple can safely wait for their recovery
43:10just think i'll give him a phone number just in case you do need me as a teammate
43:16if i tell him he's been replaced he won't be happy is that your partner no no the one underneath
43:21your car oh he's underneath chris's improvised tow line worked a treat
43:26despite her initial distress after a good matter it seems sue is feeling much better
43:32i don't know which one i like the best here
43:37isn't he lovely will you take a picture of us oh yeah i will yeah i like this one
