00:00Welcome to the Inner Circle, the game where trust is as important as knowledge.
00:05I know that you're bluffing.
00:07You don't.
00:07He's trying to frame me to be a liar. I'm really not.
00:10The aim of the game? Get the most money and the best brains into the final.
00:15To win, the players need to be strategic and outsmart the rest.
00:20Then they take their secret stash of cash and the person they trust the most to the final.
00:25What's made important? Money off the handship.
00:27Where two players will face the ultimate decision.
00:30Split the prize money and walk away as equals.
00:33Hooray!
00:34Or attempt to take it all by shafting the other player and leaving them with nothing.
00:39You little shafters!
00:42But the question is, who would you trust?
00:48I'm Steph from Tavistock in Devon.
00:50Drama teacher by day, murder mystery host by night.
00:53I'm Tom, I'm a customer service advisor slash comedian from Swansea, and today I'm here to put my acting skills to the test.
01:01I'm Jan, I'm from Cajorone in Northern Ireland, and I'm a business owner, and I'm just here for the crack.
01:06I'm Maddie, I'm a journalism student from Northumberland, and most people would describe me as a bit of a smiling assassin.
01:13I'm Alex from York, I'm a telecom engineer, and I'm more dangerous than Tiger Woods on a Sunday.
01:18I'm Grace, and I work in architecture in London.
01:21If you look shady, I'll switch from sweet to strategic real fast.
01:24Welcome, everyone.
01:29You are about to face four rounds.
01:32After every round, one of you will be eliminated.
01:35However, if you win, you will secure immunity for that round, meaning that you will be safe from elimination.
01:43Plus, you will receive a game-changing power, and I mean game-changing.
01:48This is going to give you a big advantage that should get you one step closer, because remember, only two of you can make it to the final.
01:57Anyone that's eliminated, though, will be back tomorrow to have another go, so it's not all bad.
02:02It's a brand new week here on the Inner Circle.
02:06I've got fresh blood.
02:07Let's welcome our players.
02:10Steph, you're a theatre teacher, darling.
02:12Yes, absolutely.
02:14Tell me all about that.
02:15I teach up to 18-year-olds and adults with additional needs.
02:19Did you start out yourself in amateur dramatics or wanting to be an actress?
02:23I studied drama and set up a theatre company and then got a real job and went into teaching.
02:29Amazing.
02:30Tom, you work in customer service.
02:32Does that mean that you've got a fair idea about people or a good listener?
02:37Yes, I would definitely say so.
02:39Do I detect an accent there?
02:40Yes, it's a Swansea accent.
02:42Okay, my love.
02:43And Alex, you work as an assembly engineer.
02:47Tell me what that means.
02:48We create telecom infrastructure.
02:51Exciting.
02:51Brilliant.
02:52That's brilliant.
02:53Do you reckon any of those skills are going to help you today on the Inner Circle?
02:57I'd say it makes me a bit more methodical and calculated.
02:59Ooh.
03:00Grace.
03:01Hi.
03:01This is a fabulous job.
03:03You're an architect.
03:04Yeah, yeah.
03:05Do you have a blueprint then for how you're going to play this game?
03:08I'm not sure about a blueprint per se, but in architecture we have to be quite analytical
03:12and think about people a lot.
03:14So I'm definitely going to be using those skills today.
03:17Interesting.
03:17And now we have Jan.
03:18Jan, you've got a family business.
03:20Tell me a little bit more about that.
03:21Nine years ago, me and my brother started a charcuterie business.
03:24Oh, so that's meats and hams.
03:26Yeah, making cured meats and salamis, teresos.
03:29Fantastic.
03:30Congratulations.
03:31Maddy, you're training to be a journalist.
03:32Yeah, that's correct.
03:33I feel nervous.
03:35Are you going to be asking lots of questions to everybody here to try and uncover secrets?
03:39Yeah, I think I'm quite intuitive.
03:41I think I'm good at assessing people's art.
03:43I've got a good gut instinct.
03:45Well, I look forward to getting to know all of you a little bit better later on.
03:49Earlier on, the Inner Circle randomly assigned each player a secret stash of money.
03:54So, for our players, Inner Circle, please will you reveal the secret stashes?
04:00And for you at home, you can now see everyone's secret stash amount too,
04:06so you always know where the cash is.
04:18Well, there were a lot of poker faces there.
04:20I got nothing.
04:22I've been banned from knowing until the end.
04:24It's very rude, but I suppose it's fair.
04:26I'm not very good at keeping secrets.
04:27OK, guys, your mission is now simple.
04:31You've got four rounds to get yourself and some big money into the final.
04:36So, whoever bags the most points in this game will secure immunity
04:40and pocket the first power, which is a fabulous one.
04:44It is £1,000 to add to your secret stash.
04:48It's time for round one.
04:50Moving in circles.
04:51I'll ask a question.
04:55All our players need to do is stand in the section with the correct answer to score one point.
05:00If they're brave enough to correctly go it alone, they'll score three points.
05:04So, I wonder if you'll follow the herd or risk it all to try and take the lead.
05:10After each question, you'll have seven seconds to stand on the answer,
05:14so you need to be alert and decisive.
05:17Let's play.
05:17OK, your options are Leigh-Anne, Jessie and Jade.
05:26Your question is, which Little Mix member released the solo single Angel of My Dreams?
05:40Whoa!
05:41In the nick of time.
05:43OK, so we've got a split decision in a circle.
05:45Please reveal the correct answer.
05:47Jade, well done, girls, for one point.
05:512024, she released Angel of Dreams, and it went to number seven.
05:56Your options are Autocumulus, Cirrus and Stratus.
06:02Your question is, which of these clouds typically sits lowest in the sky?
06:08Oh, Tom, you were cutting it fine there.
06:20We have Jan, Tom, Maddy and Alex on Stratus, and we have Grace and Steph on Cirrus.
06:26Inner circle, please reveal the correct answer.
06:30Stratus.
06:30One point there.
06:31Was that a guess?
06:33Absolutely.
06:33Well done, Tom, it paid off at this point.
06:36So the inner circle is going to make things a little bit more difficult now.
06:40You're going to have four possible answers, and your options are Neo, Trinity, Morpheus and Oracle.
06:49Your question is, which of these is the name of a college that makes up part of the University of Oxford?
06:56OK, you've all opted for Trinity.
07:07Are they right in a circle?
07:09Yay!
07:11Trinity, one point.
07:12Well done.
07:13It's 450 years old.
07:15Oh, wow.
07:16Your options are The Stand, The Dead Zone, The Fog, The Tommyknockers.
07:22Your question is, which of these is not the title of a novel written by Stephen King?
07:31Quick, quick.
07:33Oh, sorry.
07:34Ah!
07:37OK, once again, split decision.
07:40We've got Tom, Steph and Jan on The Stand, and we've got Maddy, Alex and Grace on The Tommyknockers.
07:46The correct answer is...
07:48The Fog.
07:49Oh, none of them.
07:50That's by James Herbert.
07:52In case you want to go and borrow it from the library or something like that.
07:55OK, this is your last chance to win some points.
07:59Your options are...
08:01Neutrons, atoms, protons and molecules.
08:06Your question is, on the periodic table, the atomic number of an element corresponds to its number of what?
08:12What?
08:12So, we've got Steph all alone on atoms, Toms on neutrons, and then we've got Grace, Maddy, Alex and Jan on protons.
08:30The correct answer is...
08:31Protons.
08:32Protons.
08:33Ah.
08:34For one point.
08:35Was that a guess?
08:36No.
08:37No.
08:38Alex.
08:39Well, congratulations.
08:40And that was the last question.
08:42Please return to your podiums.
08:43Inner Circle, please, will you reveal who won the round?
08:50Jan.
08:51Congrats.
08:53Jan.
08:54Congrats.
08:56You've secured your spot in the next round and you've won the first power, which, if you remember, is £1,000 to add to your stash.
09:04Has that made a huge difference to you at all?
09:07It's hard to say at the moment.
09:09OK.
09:10That's how she's going to play it.
09:13It's time now for the first vote.
09:19One of you and your secret stash is about to be eliminated.
09:23Jan, you have immunity, so you are safe for now.
09:26But for the rest of you, you really need to fight to remain in the game.
09:30Remember, what you want is the most money and the best brains in that final.
09:36That's your motivation and the floor is open.
09:39I'd just like to say that I didn't do brilliantly in that round, but I have got a lot of rubbish knowledge in my head.
09:49I don't know where it comes from, but I've been good at dragging up those answers.
09:55So I would be good to keep till the end.
09:58I've got great general knowledge.
10:00The reason I knew the answer to the cloud question as well is because I speak four languages.
10:03But I want to play a good game and I just want to get with people that I can trust that I know are in it for the team.
10:10The answers that I did get on that, I knew exactly and I wasn't guessing like some people were in here who admitted to guessing.
10:16So it's all about clear and precise and speed of memory recall.
10:21And I think in the final and especially in the cache builder, that is vital.
10:24I knew all of the answers aside from the one to do with the cloud.
10:27So I think I'm also a good contender for general knowledge.
10:30And then I'm also quite trustworthy, I think.
10:32So I definitely want to be moving forward with people who I think can be trusted.
10:36I'm very trustworthy as well.
10:38Similar to Steph, I had a poor first round.
10:42That wasn't really my favourite type of game but general knowledge, experience.
10:49I'm ready to continue.
10:51OK.
10:52I'm ready to go.
10:53Well, it's time to lock in your votes.
10:56OK, let's find out who's going to be out of the inner circle first.
11:14Steph, I'm going to start with you.
11:16Who are you casting out?
11:18Ah, I'm voting for Tom.
11:22I'm so sorry.
11:24It's really difficult at this stage.
11:27We don't know people that well.
11:29Correct.
11:30I could be bluffing.
11:31It could be bluffing, absolutely.
11:33Tom, who are you voting for?
11:35I voted for Grace.
11:38Because she said that she is quite intelligent and she did get...
11:43Did you get all of them right, I believe?
11:45I think it was two.
11:47Was it two?
11:48Yeah.
11:49I'm sensing you might be a bit of a bluffer.
11:52So, for that reason, I'm voting Grace.
11:54Very good.
11:55Alex, who are you going to vote for?
11:57I'll be voting for Tom.
11:59I think someone like myself has got good memory recall.
12:02He has just said that Grace has got the wrong amount of answers correct.
12:05So, I think that's a valid term for voting somebody out.
12:07Fair enough.
12:08Interesting.
12:09Grace, who are you voting?
12:12I will be voting for Tom.
12:14I think I'm quite good at reading people and I just haven't sensed that level of genuineness
12:22from you.
12:23I'm sorry.
12:24Jan, who are you voting out of the inner circle?
12:26I have voted for Alex.
12:28Purely for the reason.
12:30Everybody to me was on the same level.
12:32So, I just had to pick somebody.
12:34And lastly, Maddy, who are you casting out of the inner circle?
12:39I'm sorry to say, it's got to be Tom.
12:41I just feel you could be a bit of a potential snake in the future.
12:45And I really don't want to get bitten and I don't want to blindly trust someone who I think
12:49hasn't got the team's best interests at heart.
12:52So, it's got to be Tom.
12:53I'm sorry.
12:54Okay.
12:55Tom, sadly, that is four votes for you.
12:57We've barely got to know you.
12:59How do you feel?
13:00I'm a bit disappointed, but that's the name of the game.
13:03It is the name of the game and it's not over.
13:06We'll see you tomorrow, but for now, you have been cast out of the inner circle.
13:10Good luck, everyone.
13:13Oh, my goodness.
13:14Maddy, no holding back.
13:16Who knows what that's done to the game?
13:18Only you know where the money is.
13:20I wonder if you've just said goodbye to somebody that would have split the stash,
13:24but the choices have been made.
13:26There are no rewinds.
13:27And with one person down, it's time for round two.
13:31And in this round, you really want to win because as well as immunity,
13:35the power on offer is peak.
13:39This is a huge advantage because you will be able to have a sneaky peak
13:43at someone's secret stash.
13:45And given that your ultimate goal is to get as much money as possible
13:49into that final, this power could give you a really big boost.
13:54It's time for round two.
13:56Vicious circle.
13:58So, this is all about being quick, taking control and firing those killer shots.
14:04Get any two questions correct and you'll get into the vicious circle.
14:08Once you're in, every correct answer you give will give you the power
14:13to get rid of another player.
14:15But if you get one wrong, you are frozen out of the next question.
14:19So, you need to play smart, play sneaky and take down your competition.
14:25Last player standing wins.
14:27So, you need to get ready for survival.
14:30Let's play.
14:34Here is your first question.
14:36Which month of the year contains the fewest letters in its name?
14:40Yes, Jan.
14:42Me.
14:43That is correct.
14:45You are on your way, Jan.
14:47Next question.
14:48Australian dish, the ham dog, is a combination of a hamburger
14:52and which other meat and bread snack?
14:53Yes, Alex.
14:54Hot dog.
14:55That's correct.
14:56Congrats.
14:57You're a step closer.
14:58Next question.
14:59In the sitcom Friends, what decorative structure
15:03do the characters dance in during the opening credits?
15:05Jan.
15:07Water fountain.
15:08It is.
15:09You are in the vicious circle, which means your next correct answer
15:14puts you in control and you can take out another player.
15:19Chelmsford and Colchester are cities in which English county?
15:23Maddy.
15:24Essex.
15:25Correct.
15:26You're on your way.
15:27Next question.
15:28The Game Boy Switch and Wii are all consoles released by...
15:31Yes, Alex.
15:32Nintendo.
15:33Well done.
15:34You're also in the vicious circle, which means your next correct answer
15:37puts you in control and means you can take out another player.
15:40In Grand Slam tennis, what surface do players compete on at the French Open?
15:45Alex.
15:46Clay.
15:47That's correct.
15:48Who do you want to take out?
15:50Steph.
15:51Oh.
15:52Steph, sorry.
15:53You're out.
15:54Oh.
15:55Oh.
15:56Next question.
15:57What organ of the human body would most likely be studied by a cardiologist?
16:01Yes, Jan.
16:02Heart.
16:03Correct.
16:04Who would you like to take out of the vicious circle?
16:06A...
16:07Griess.
16:08No.
16:12Next question.
16:13Which British Prime Minister said in a 1980 speech,
16:16which the ladies not...
16:17Yes.
16:18Turning.
16:19Alex.
16:20Margaret Thatcher.
16:21That is correct.
16:22Who do you want to take out?
16:23Maddie.
16:24Maddie, you are out.
16:28So, the next correct answer will be the winner.
16:33In the Mission Impossible film series, Tom Cruise plays a field agent named Ethan what?
16:38Alex.
16:39Hunt.
16:40Congratulations, Alex.
16:42That means you've only got one player to get rid of.
16:44Sorry, Jan.
16:45Bye, Jan.
16:48Which means, Alex, you are the winner of this game.
16:51Congratulations.
16:54And, Alex, as the winner, you have secured your place in the next round
16:58and you've won the second power, which is to have a sneaky peek
17:01at someone else's secret stash.
17:03Things are going to get very juicy now.
17:06Whose stash are you going to have a peek at?
17:10Maddie's.
17:12Any particular reason?
17:13Well, I know Jan's got the thousand and Maddie voted for me earlier, so I might as well just see what she's got.
17:19OK. Fair enough.
17:21In a circle, please let Alex have a peek at Maddie's secret stash.
17:26Well, we are heading for another casting out.
17:39It's time for the second vote.
17:41Who do you think should stay?
17:43And who needs to go?
17:45There's no margin for error.
17:47Another player and their secret stash are about to leave.
17:51Plus, I wonder if Alex will let us know what he just saw.
17:55Over to you.
17:56The floor is open.
17:57Would anyone like to disclose how much they have?
18:00Would you like to disclose what you've seen on Maddie's screen?
18:03Well, if I disclose that, I can't see who's lying.
18:06Whereas if you...
18:07You already know I have a thousand pounds.
18:09And I could potentially have a decent amount sitting there too.
18:13I'm not going to say how much I have, but I have a decent amount for sure.
18:17So taking me forward would definitely be good.
18:19Jan, I know you've got the thousand now, which is really awesome.
18:23But is it that you have zero and now you're using this one thousand to be a shield?
18:28All I'm saying is there is a bit more to it than just the thousand.
18:32I'm trying to work out who I can trust as well.
18:34Because who's to say that we're going to get to the end
18:37and then someone's just going to take it all for themselves.
18:40Yeah.
18:41So I'd personally love to be in the next round
18:43because I want to work with someone and combine collective knowledge.
18:47Yeah, I'm with Maddie there.
18:49I'm a team player and I think you work together for the greater good.
18:55Yeah, and I too have a decent amount of money.
18:58Okay.
18:59Alex, would you say you're a trustworthy person?
19:01Yeah, I've given the reason to doubt me so far.
19:03Have you ever told any white lies in your life?
19:06I may have lied to my mum.
19:08Really?
19:09Oh, Alex.
19:10What might have you said to your mum?
19:12Oh dear.
19:13Every Friday she makes a fish pie and I despise fish pie,
19:16but I grit through it and say that it's nice even though I despise it.
19:19So I try and find an excuse to go out at Friday tea time.
19:22I think you could be forgiven for that.
19:23Yeah.
19:24But listen, it's now time for you to lock in your decisions.
19:41The votes are in.
19:42Steph, tell me, who are you casting out?
19:45I am casting out Grace.
19:50I'm not sure that she's got as much money to take forward as she's trying to say she has.
19:56Interesting.
19:57Alex, who are you casting out?
19:59I'm going to cast out Steph.
20:02She didn't answer very many questions last round.
20:05I believe there wasn't any.
20:06Grace, who are you casting out of the inner circle?
20:09I have also voted for Steph, I'm sorry.
20:12Yeah, you were just less on the buzzer than I felt I was, so I'm sorry.
20:17Jan, who are you casting out?
20:20I also voted for Steph.
20:22Sorry, I just don't think she even got a fair chance in the last round, but that's just my decision.
20:27And lastly, Maddy, who are you casting out?
20:31Well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to vote for Steph.
20:34I just think there might be a few gaps in some of the knowledge questions and I'd like to get to the end with someone I know is going to get as much money as we can and also work together really well, so I'm really sorry.
20:42Okay.
20:43That's four votes for you, Steph.
20:46Thank you so much for playing.
20:47We'll see you tomorrow, but for now you have been cast out of the inner circle.
20:55So Steph has gone, but only you at home know if that was a good decision.
21:00There's now just two more chances to win an immunity and a power that could help you get through to that final.
21:08And this time that power is swap.
21:11Swap.
21:12Swap.
21:13It's a really good one.
21:14If you win this round, you can swap stashes with any player.
21:19So if your secret stash is a little bit low at the moment, you really want to win this one.
21:24It's time for round three, connecting circles.
21:27It's a pairs game, so you're going to work together.
21:30You'll each have two chances to win more points and the person with the most points will win immunity and that all-important power.
21:39Each question has two correct answers.
21:42You've both got to stand on a correct answer.
21:44If you get one right, you score one point each.
21:47If you get both right, that's three points each.
21:49So it's time to get thinking, get moving and get connecting.
21:54Our first randomly selected pair is Grace and Alex.
22:01Alex, your answers are the bedroom, the night watch, the girl with a pearl earring, the scream, the starry night and water lilies.
22:11You have 15 seconds to lock in both answers.
22:14Your time starts as soon as I finish reading the question.
22:17And your question is, which two of these famous artworks were painted by Vincent van Gogh?
22:24Do you have any idea straight away?
22:26Oh, gosh. I'm not actually quite...
22:28The screen? No, wait.
22:29I think starry night.
22:30Starry night definitely was.
22:32Starry night and maybe night watch.
22:33Five seconds.
22:34I thought it might be the...
22:35I'm signing it.
22:36OK, I'll go here.
22:40OK, so let's see if you're right.
22:44Ah, the other one was the bedroom.
22:47Rembrandt painted the night watch.
22:49Interesting.
22:50Never mind, you still scored a point.
22:51Each back to your podiums.
22:54Our next pair is Jan and Maddy.
22:56Your answers are...
23:02Bungle.
23:03Ah, and Winnie the Pooh.
23:05Your question is, which two of these fictional bears first appeared in the 1920s?
23:12So it's an old bear.
23:14Rupert is definitely fairly old.
23:17Oh, I don't want to say...
23:18And I think Winnie the Pooh is quite old as well.
23:20Or Paddington actually would be.
23:22I'm between those two.
23:23I'm going to go with Winnie, I think.
23:26Oh, no.
23:28OK.
23:29In a circle, please reveal the correct answers.
23:33Yay!
23:34Yay!
23:35Three points each.
23:36Yogi and Paddington were the 50s.
23:38Fozzie and Bungle were the 70s.
23:40I remember most of those years quite well, sadly.
23:43Please return to your podiums.
23:46Next up, we have Maddy and Grace.
23:48Your answers are...
23:50Pawn, rook, knight, bishop, queen and king.
23:55Your question is...
24:0215 seconds.
24:03Pawn.
24:04Pawn.
24:05And also the...
24:07The L-shaped.
24:08It's the knight, yeah.
24:09Knight's move, L-shaped.
24:11This one.
24:13I think we're feeling good about...
24:14Yeah.
24:15Bishops move sideways.
24:16Rooks.
24:17Rooks straight and across.
24:19Knight's move.
24:20They're all trapped as well.
24:21OK, so we've gone for Pawn and Knight.
24:23In a circle, please reveal the correct answers.
24:26Yay!
24:27Yay!
24:28Well done.
24:29Everything else is blocked in.
24:30Three points each.
24:31Please return to your podiums.
24:32Well done, girls.
24:33Our next pair is Alex and Jan.
24:35Your answers are...
24:44Your question is...
24:4815 seconds.
24:49It's Tiger and Bubba Watson.
24:50Oh, my God.
24:51Look at that.
24:52Tiger.
24:53Bubba Watson and Tiger.
24:55I should know Darren Clark is from Duncannon.
24:57It's not him.
24:58Alex, I feel like you know your golf.
25:00Play a lot of golf.
25:01Do you?
25:02Came out of the room with a golf club in hand.
25:05In a circle, please reveal the correct answers.
25:09Excellent.
25:10Three points to both of you.
25:12Bubba twice and Tiger, do you know?
25:14I think five times.
25:15That's correct.
25:16Alex, there's no extra points, though.
25:18That was the last question.
25:19Please return to your podiums.
25:21Oh, well.
25:22We have a tie.
25:23Jan and Maddy, you both have six points.
25:24To decide who wins, we're going to play fastest finger on the buzzer.
25:25Here we go.
25:26Which word in the NATO phonetic alphabet shares its name with a style of dance believed to have originated in Latin America?
25:32Jan.
25:33Tango.
25:34Well done, Jan.
25:35You've won immunity and I think the best power of all, which is you can now make a swap or you can keep what you've got, which will be interesting.
25:47What are you going to do?
25:48Oh, I don't know.
25:49I'm not convinced of who's possibly got the bigger value.
25:50I think it could be between Maddy and Alex, potentially.
25:51OK.
25:52I can't really grace out either.
25:53I know what I definitely have.
25:54So I think I'm going to stay.
25:55Are you going to play it safe?
25:56Yeah.
25:57And stay with your own.
26:14Wow.
26:15OK.
26:16The only thing we know for certain is that Jan pocketed about a thousand gelir of balance.
26:23is that Jan pocketed £1,000 from the power earlier on.
26:28It's time to make another big decision.
26:34Welcome to the sharp end of the game.
26:37Only two of you can get to the final.
26:39Time to get your stories straight.
26:42Who goes? Who stays?
26:44That decision is up to you and the floor is open.
26:47Go on, Alex.
26:48Being the only boy left,
26:49I've got a completely different set of knowledge to everyone here.
26:52I also know what Maddie's total is.
26:55And I can reveal that is £50.
26:57Is it?
26:58It is £50.
26:59Well, I think you wanted to look at mine
27:02because you know I have the foreground
27:04and I know that's why you wanted to get that swap.
27:07I wanted to get that swap because I actually have zero.
27:09I've got nothing.
27:10I know for a fact you have 50.
27:11And if I was any of these players here, Grace or Jan,
27:14I'd rather be in the final with myself
27:16because I've been more accurate with my answers
27:18and I've been straight and quick.
27:19I'm sure you get a lot right,
27:20but I'm sure they'd probably go home with nothing.
27:22What's given you that impression, though, so far?
27:23I have a gut feeling and I'm not usually wrong.
27:25I trust both of these girls more than I trust you
27:28and I want to play with integrity.
27:31You just said you're playing with integrity
27:32and directly lied about the cash total amount that you have.
27:34No.
27:35Grace, if you had anything to add, would you want to show what you have?
27:40I don't want to share exactly because I don't know what you have.
27:43However, I'm not seeing why Alex would lie and want to vote you off
27:48if you had the biggest cash prize,
27:51because then what would the end goal be?
27:54Do you get me?
27:55So I'm a bit lost on that reasoning from you, Maddy.
27:58I haven't got a feeling telling me.
28:00Do you have the £50, though, like Alex said?
28:03I'll be honest, I do have £50.
28:05Right.
28:06And that was a strategy on my part because I do want to get to the final.
28:09I know I'm safe from this one, but my head's a mess now.
28:13I have to pull that there.
28:15I'm kind of with Maddy, with Alex.
28:19I think he is a good player, but I don't know if he's 100% truthful.
28:23Grace, I don't know.
28:25I'm kind of on the fence about you,
28:26because everybody else is sort of giving their money.
28:29But yet, you did play well last round,
28:32so I'm a wee bit up in the air at this one.
28:35So, Maddy said she had £4,000,
28:38then she changed her mind and said she had £50,000.
28:41Alex said he had nothing.
28:44Grace doesn't understand anyone's logic,
28:46and Jan's head's in a mess.
28:48The only thing we do know is that Jan has at least £1,000,
28:52and you at home know everything.
28:55It's time to make your decisions.
28:57Will you please lock them in?
28:59Jan, who are you casting out?
29:12I went with Alex.
29:14I don't know if that was my right choice or not,
29:17but to be honest, after that last round there,
29:20I'm not sure who to trust,
29:22so I just went with my gut on this one.
29:24Alex, who are you casting out?
29:27It speaks for itself.
29:28You can't lie and say you've got one amount
29:29and then say you've got another bit later on
29:31when you feel like it,
29:32so Maddy's got my vote.
29:35Grace?
29:36I have voted for Maddy
29:39purely because of all your talk about trust,
29:42and then, yeah, just the blatant lie.
29:45And Maddy?
29:46Obviously, I went for Alex.
29:50I've just got to go with my gut on who I can trust.
29:53Right, that means Alex and Maddy,
29:56you are tied on two votes each,
29:58which means, Jan, it's up to you
30:00to decide between the two of them.
30:03Oh, pressure.
30:07I think it's only right if I had went with Alex,
30:10I'm going to stick to Alex.
30:11OK, that's who you voted for
30:13and that's who you're sticking with.
30:15Alex, we'll see you tomorrow,
30:17but for now you are cast out of the inner circle.
30:25We have our final three players.
30:27Well done.
30:28Congratulations on making it this far.
30:31Only two of you can make it through to the final
30:34and be in with a chance of walking away
30:36with a combined stash.
30:38I still have got no idea how much money is left.
30:42The winner of this last round
30:44wins the final power and will control who joins them
30:47in the final.
30:49Time for the last round.
30:51Circle of clues.
30:54So, for each question, I'll read out a series of three clues.
30:58The quicker you buzz in with the correct link,
31:01the more points you will win.
31:03So, as soon as you think you know, buzz in.
31:05But remember, if you get it wrong,
31:07you will be frozen out of the rest of that question.
31:11It's time to get your brains in gear.
31:14Let's play.
31:18Question one.
31:19Can you name the food linked by these three clues?
31:22Clues.
31:23Your first clue is...
31:30Anyone?
31:31Next clue for two points.
31:33This fruit is a popular pie filling.
31:37Yes.
31:38Maddy.
31:39Apple.
31:40That's correct.
31:41For two points.
31:42Well done.
31:43The last clue would have been Gwyneth Paltrow named her
31:44daughter after this fruit.
31:46Question two.
31:48Can you name the island country linked by these three clues?
31:53Your first clue.
31:54Unique animal species on the island include lemurs and chameleons.
31:58Next clue for two points.
32:03It is separated from continental Africa by the Mozambique channel.
32:07Jan.
32:08Madagascar.
32:09That's correct.
32:10Well done, Jan.
32:11That's two points.
32:12The other clue would have been it shares its name with a 2005 animated film
32:16starring Chris Rock and Ben Stiller.
32:18Madagascar.
32:19Question number three.
32:20Can you name the rapper linked by these three clues?
32:24This Brit Award winner is sometimes known as Santan.
32:27Yes.
32:30Grace.
32:31Dave.
32:32That is correct.
32:33Three points.
32:34The other clues were his UK number one singles include Starlight and Funky Friday
32:39and he's known by a singular name which is the same as the first names of actor Batista and Franco.
32:45This is your last question.
32:47Can you name the toy linked by these three clues?
32:50This toy was first launched in 1963.
32:57For two points, your next clue is her outfits were designed by the Emanuals.
33:03Yes, Grace.
33:04Barbie.
33:05I'm afraid not.
33:06You are frozen out of the question.
33:08Restart the clock were designed by the Emanuals who also made Diana's wedding dress.
33:14Your last clue for one point.
33:19She is a British teenage fashion doll that's 12.
33:22Yes, Jan.
33:23I'm just going to go with the Cindy doll.
33:24Yes.
33:25One point.
33:26Did you have one?
33:27No, I brought up on a farm so I was always playing with farm toys and stuff.
33:30Did you have animals?
33:31Did you have livestock?
33:32Yeah.
33:33What did you have?
33:34We live on a pig farm and shaping cattle so a wee bit of a mix.
33:36Fantastic.
33:37That is the end of the round.
33:42Oh my goodness.
33:43We have another tie.
33:45Jan and Grace, you both have three points each which means to decide we're going to play fastest finger on the buzzer.
33:53Here we go.
33:54Which general and emperor led the French army at the Battle of Waterloo?
33:59Jan.
34:00Napoleon.
34:01Correct.
34:02Well done.
34:03You have now won the power to control the vote.
34:06Wow.
34:10Remember, you need somebody that you can trust, but you also need somebody strong enough to help increase your stash in that final cash builder.
34:18Yeah.
34:19Grace and Maddy, this is your time now to convince Jan why you should be taken through to the final.
34:26Shall we start with you, Grace?
34:28Sadly, I haven't been able to reach the buzzer in time on a lot of these rounds because you've been so on it, Jan, but I have known the answer to most of these questions.
34:36So I think in the next round when we do the cash building, you're definitely going to want me in to help you build that pot.
34:41And then also, I have quite a healthy price pot to begin with, so that's also going to be a value to you in the next round.
34:47And Maddy?
34:49It's no lie, I've got 50 quid.
34:51And I want to go through because I have really great general knowledge and I want to have fun doing it and I want to go to the end with someone that I know we can do a really good job and just smash it out and get as much as possible.
35:02OK, Jan, it's up to you. What do you want to do?
35:05I'm not sure.
35:06Grace has never once said how much she actually has, which is putting a wee doubt in my mind, is she bluffing me.
35:14I know what I have and it's a fair wee bit, I'm not going to lie, so I'm very much on the fence again between the two.
35:23Another thing too, Alex did say before he left that he had zero, so if he had zero you had 50.
35:29It only begs the reason that Grace has potentially a higher amount than she's letting on.
35:36I don't know, it's a tough one.
35:37I would just play it with you if that makes you feel...
35:40As would I.
35:42So Jan, who do you trust, what do you want to do?
35:52I think now I didn't expect to get this far and at the end of the day it is still half about money, half about trust.
36:00So in taking naps, I'm sorry Maddy, but I'm going to save Grace this round.
36:08So commiserations to you, Maddy.
36:11We will see you on tomorrow's show, but you have been cast out of the inner circle.
36:21Our final two.
36:23It's time for the cash builder.
36:25This is the last chance for Jan and Grace to work together and add some money to their combined secret stash.
36:32Remember, I still don't know anything for certain, but here's a quick reminder of your money for everyone at home.
36:39You are now playing together to add to your combined stash.
36:44I'm going to give you £100 for each correct answer.
36:48You've got 60 seconds to get through as many as you can, but my advice to you is to say pass if you don't know,
36:54because I cannot move on to the other person until you get a right answer.
36:59OK?
37:00Let's play.
37:09Pass.
37:10It's Macaroni.
37:11Which Italian fashion house has the head of Medusa as its logo?
37:15Gucci.
37:16No.
37:17Pass.
37:18It's Versace.
37:19The book, The Gruffalo, the title's character's eyes are described as being which colour?
37:23Yellow.
37:24That's incorrect.
37:25Green.
37:26Keep going.
37:27Purple.
37:28Blue.
37:29No.
37:30Black.
37:31Right.
37:32Pass.
37:33The name of the ailment influenza is commonly abbreviated to what three-letter word?
37:36Phone.
37:37Correct.
37:38Well done.
37:39Grace.
37:40Which classical musical features the songs Consider Yourself and Food Glorious Food?
37:43I say...
37:45It's Oliver.
37:47Yeah.
37:48In which US state is the theme park Dollywood?
37:52New Orleans?
37:53No.
37:54Pass.
37:55It's Tennessee.
37:56Simone Biles is a famous name in which...
37:58Gym.
37:59Gymnastics.
38:00Which salad ingredient is named from the French word for crust?
38:04Crouton.
38:05Just in the nick of time!
38:09You answered three questions correctly meaning you've added £300 onto your combined cash stash.
38:16Well done.
38:17Jan and Grace had the chance to work together but now the inner circle has one final test for
38:23them both.
38:24It's time to play Split or Shaft.
38:30Girls, everything has led to this point.
38:34Remember that you are playing for your combined cash total.
38:38I still haven't got a clue what you've both got hidden away.
38:41Only the viewers at home know what you are truly worth.
38:45We now have three possible outcomes.
38:48You can win together and half the cash if, but only if, you decide to split.
38:53You can lose together and go home with nothing if you both decide to Shaft.
38:58Or, if we see a split and a Shaft, the Shafter wins it all.
39:03Jan and Grace, time for you now to have a little chat about how you want to play this.
39:09I mean, personally I would prefer to split as soon as we've both gotten to this point.
39:17But how are you feeling about things?
39:19It's sort of unknown.
39:20I know exactly how much I have in the pot.
39:23Obviously you know I have £1,000 already sitting there.
39:26So it's, you know, I'm still very much on the fence of how much you have.
39:30Yeah.
39:31But I think, kind of the same, I've got this far.
39:33Like I'd rather go home with something than absolutely nothing.
39:37Okay.
39:38We'll just have to maybe put trust in each other.
39:41I think so, yeah.
39:42I think I'm a bit apprehensive maybe to tell you how much I have at this point.
39:46In case you change your mind.
39:48It doesn't matter either, right?
39:49Yeah, to split or Shaft.
39:51But, yeah, I think if we can put our trust in each other and split, I think that would probably be the preferable option.
39:58As scary, as scary as that sounds.
40:01Are you on board?
40:03I'm sort of in the same line of thought as yourself.
40:07I guess we'll have to see what happens.
40:10Okay.
40:12Time to lock in your decisions.
40:21So, now we get to find out what you were really worth.
40:35Jan, can you please tell me how much was in your secret stash at the very start of the game?
40:40I started off with £1,000 and then I won the £1,000 after the first round, so that was £3,000.
40:46Grace, the big question is to you. What did you start with?
40:51I believe I had £100, yeah.
40:55Wow.
40:56Okay, so added to the £300 you brought through from the cash builder, that means you're playing for a combined total of £2,400.
41:04What would you spend that money on, Jan?
41:06I'm trying to build a house.
41:07Are you?
41:08Yeah, so I would love to put towards that.
41:10That is the dream.
41:11Yeah.
41:12Very lucky possession.
41:13What about you, Grace? What would you spend the money on?
41:15I've been planning on starting a podcast with my friends, so probably some equipment and set up for that.
41:19Okay, fantastic.
41:20It is now time to reveal if you've decided to split or shaft in a circle.
41:28Will you please reveal today's decision?
41:30Oh!
41:31Oh, my goodness, you little shafters!
41:43You both decided to shaft!
41:56Which means today's cash pot has been thrown away, leaving you both with absolutely nothing.
42:04Who would you trust?
42:05How does that feel?
42:06How does that feel?
42:07I deep down knew that she was going to shaft me.
42:09She was so cagey about her amount and all, and I just didn't have full trust in her.
42:13Oh, my God!
42:14Wow!
42:15I actually was going to split, but it looked like you were going to shaft, so in the end I decided to shaft because I didn't want to get started.
42:24Well, my gut feeling was that you were going to shaft me at the final end.
42:28Well, maybe we should take this outside.
42:30You both ended up with nothing.
42:33Who would you trust?
42:34And how would you play the game?
42:36We'll see you next time here on The Inner Circle.
43:00We'll see you next time.
