The stages of writing and vocabulary development in children represent a conceptional way to understand how vocabulary and writing in children develops. Once a conceptional understanding of writing is developed, one can then divide this development into concrete stages for the purpose of facilitating the writing developmental process. Children should never be discouraged from exploring writing by the means they are able to do, whether it be scribbling, invented spelling, or conventional spelling.
