01:27I'm Joey Styles and as you have seen
01:29a new ECW World Heavyweight Champion
01:32was crowned this past Saturday night
01:34December 7th, 1996
01:37that will live in infamy in ECW Wrestling History.
01:41Raven defeated the Sandman in a barbed wire matchup
01:45to become a two-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
01:51The ECW World Heavyweight Title
01:53was established in August of 1994
01:56when the franchise Shane Douglas defeated
01:58two Colt Scorpio now known as Flash Funk
02:02in the finals of a tournament
02:04to crown a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
02:08But Douglas shocked the Wrestling World
02:10by tossing the NWA strap down
02:13and proclaiming the Eastern Championship Wrestling Title
02:16at the Extreme World Heavyweight Championship.
02:20The Arrogant Blonde's title reign came to an end
02:32on April 15, 1995
02:34at the second annual Hostile City Showdown
02:37when he locked the Sandman in the chicken wing
02:40but had his shoulders pinned to the mat.
02:42To this day, Douglas claims he heard
02:45the cigarette-smoking brawler scream,
02:47I quit.
03:05The Sandman held onto the belt
03:07until being upset by everyone's favorite underdog,
03:10Mikey Whitbrick, on October 28, 1995.
03:17But Mikey didn't hold the belt long.
03:27On December 9, 1995,
03:29he fought a Stone Cold Superstar
03:31in Steve Austin and the Sandman
03:33in a three-way dance.
03:35Mikey was eliminated early.
03:37It came down to Austin and the Sandman
03:40with the ECW icon emerging
03:42as a two-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
03:46But while everything seemed great on the surface for the Sandman,
04:01behind the scenes, his life was a mess.
04:04A secret only Raven knew
04:06as he had been with the Sandman's ex-wife,
04:08Lori Fullington, for a while already.
04:10And on January 27, 1996,
04:15Raven used his knowledge of the Sandman
04:18being locked in a custody battle
04:20over Tyler Fullington
04:21to defeat the cane-swinging champion for the belt.
04:24But Raven had his own problems
04:34and took a personal leave of absence without notice in October.
04:39Raven's number one assistant follower,
04:54Flunky Stevie Richards put the belt up
04:57in an Ultimate Jeopardy! Tag Team battle
04:59and the Sandman became a three-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion.
05:09Until this past Saturday night,
05:24a barbed wire matchup
05:26with Raven challenging the Sandman
05:29for that very same title.
05:31Raven, the challenger, came to the ring first
05:34with Lori and Tyler Fullington.
05:43But ECW officials escorted Lori and Tyler
05:47back to the locker room, away from the barbed wire.
05:55That was no accident.
05:56That was Raven's plan.
05:58He timed it perfectly
05:59because Lori and Tyler passed the Sandman
06:02making his way into the ring
06:04and the champion saw his ex-wife
06:06and his son before getting into a barbed wire matchup.
06:11Getting into the ring,
06:12the barbed wire tore the Sandman's pants to shreds
06:15and at that moment,
06:16both men knew they were in for a bloody war.
06:20The Sandman had the advantage.
06:22He's got the experience in barbed wire matches.
06:25The Sandman punished Raven unmercifully.
06:30This was payback.
06:31Payback for losing his title.
06:34Payback for taking up with his ex-wife.
06:36Payback for taking away his son.
06:38But Raven showed he was no pushover,
06:42even tearing off his own T-shirt in a barbed wire match.
06:46Raven got the advantage,
06:48and the two were battling on top of the table
06:53and went crashing through it.
06:55The Sandman landed head first
06:58and took the blunt of the fall
07:00and Raven fighting exhaustion,
07:02fighting blood loss,
07:04barely conscious,
07:05hooked the champion
07:07and DDT'd him through what was left
07:09of that broken table.
07:11Covered the Sandman for the 1-2-3
07:15and thus began the second ECW
07:20World Heavyweight title raid of Raven.
