A massive 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the southern coast of the Philippines, triggering tsunami warnings across the region, including parts of Indonesia. The powerful quake, centered near Manay town in Davao Oriental, shook buildings, caused deadly landslides, and forced thousands to flee to higher ground.
At least five people lost their lives, including two who suffered heart attacks during the quake and two buried in a landslide in a remote gold mining village. A second tremor measuring 6.9 magnitude hit shortly after, raising fears of more destruction.
This comes just weeks after the country faced its deadliest earthquake in over a decade. Rescue operations are underway, and the nation is once again bracing itself as it recovers from yet another major natural disaster.
